A lot has already been said about the event and the ride, so I'll keep it brief.
As is tradition with Cedar Point, they'll skip on elaborate food in favor of serious media support in the form of sat trucks, video editing, phones, faxes, etc. Interestingly enough they decided to do on-ride video via microwave, receiveing between five different antennae. This worked pretty poorly with drop-outs every where, and I'm not sure why they didn't just strap in a portable DVCAM deck like they did on Millennium Force.
Media stuff aside though, the ride exceeded my expectations. I liked Impulses to begin with, so as far as I was concerned any additional joygasms would be a welcome bonus. Stephanie and I went for the back seat on the first ride. Wow... the pull-out into that rear spike at 72 mph is seriously intense (all of the transitions in and out of vertical are, but this one in particular). Just when the curve lets go, you get spun, no, yanked around that twist in a hurry, one and a half times up and around.
While the seats up front offer a similar ride to Impulse v2.0, the additional half-twist is something that adds quite a bit. And make no mistake, the rear twist, quickly spiraling up then spinning you face first toward the ground was unexpected in terms of intensity and visuals.
The middle seat (row 9, right side) is kind of neat because on the rear passes it seems like you could reach right out and touch the little platform built atop the support structure. It's also a good mix of the two experiences (front and back), due I'm sure to the 450 degrees of rotation. Still, in my opinion, the further back you go the better the ride.
Bottom line, it doesn't have the wow factor of a Millennium Force, but this ride really rounds out the collection. I'm pleased, and look forward to many great times on this new ride!
