By a gate, are you referring to the entrance/exits that use the magnet system to hold them shut?

Actually, the only gates that have to be shut for the train to launch are the exit gates leading to the ramp out of the ride. All the employee gates lock magnetically when the breaks go up so the train can launch, but they don't HAVE to be closed... if you hold your gate open, the train will still launch. The only way that it will stop the train is if it swings open (or is swung open) and breaks the light curtain. Don't ask how we found that one out...
The gates have sensors on them, thats why when u see the ride host going over and making sure the gate is closedbefore the ride starts

A lot of people have broght up about a e-stop cutting power and how the train would stop then....well its a safety feature so that in a event of a e-stop, lose of power etc. the brakes automatically drop.
