Curious if anyone has been on the ride during an E-stop? My question stems from an incident during my last trip. The controls operator announced “clear” prior to one of the operators finishing checking the harnesses and then getting behing her gate. I'm guessing that she meant to say ready but said clear by accident. Anyway, my brain got to thinking, if for some reason the ride was launched and the train did not wipe her out I would guess her first instinct would be to run for cover behind her gate. This would mean she would break the light beam thus stopping the ride. Is the E-stop an immediate stop or is it more like the somewhat gradual stop at the end of the ride? If it is an immediate stop that's gotta hurt!
I've only had one on Wicked Twister, don't know what it was for. But yeah, it was just like the stop at the end of the ride, just a bit faster and, because of the direction we were headed, going forwards.

I was on a train when someone tripped the beams. We were on our second shot forward toward the very end of the horizontal track when it felt like we simply lost power. We went up the tower a little bit and came back and stopped just like you do at the end, but not quite as hard for us since it tried to stop us going forward too.(I guess there wasn't enough time for the brakes to stop us on the way forward) We were stopped there at the end of the track, where there is no station, for about 5 minutes. Then we rolled into the station (not pushed) and they let us ride again if we wanted.......Pretty Cool actually

The ride went down several times today, and I witnessed it E-stopping while in line for maXair. It accelerated like normal out of the station and then quickly stopped before going up the first front twist. After awhile, the car returned to the station on its own. Not sure what went wrong, but noticed it made an E-Stop.
Cedar Point rocks my socks.
If the "light beam" is broken, the ride does not have to be physically pulled back into position. Just a simple restart of the ride is all that is necessary. Of course that is after you call Park Operations and explain to them what happened! There are many different reasons for the ride to E-stop. The computer can have all sorts of errors. Sometimes the train must be pulled back in to the station after an E-stop, using a rope, but not everytime.

I've been on the ride once during and E-Stop and another time during a mis-fire on the launch. The E-Stop time we stopped on our second station pass and after sitting for a few minutes we were slowly returned to the station, reset and re-launched.
During the mis-fire, or whatever you want to call it, right after the countdown we launched and went about 20 feet and then stopped. I remember saying to myself that launch just didn't feel right, it was a little slower. After about a 10 minute wait we were brought back into the station, released and asked to exit the ride. Afterwards it was down for most of the rest of the day.

I have seen Wicked Twister E-Stop twice right before I got on. The first time was in '03 where it stopped for some mechanical reason, it was just about to enter the first spike its second time. The second time was in '05, it just went up the first spike, a guy through his hat across the launch area, an alarm came on, and immediatly when the train came back down it stopped within a second.
If the train is on the back spike and the light curtain is broken then there is some trouble. It is possible for someone to make a life-threatening mistake by doing so, however the same is the case with any other coaster at CP if someone is stupid enough to try something so idiotic. Read backgrounds on many ride-related deaths and you will find that stupidity plays a predominant role in many of them
