Why The Days Off?

Does anyone know why CP is open on May 4th and 5th and then closed for the next four days? (According to the website). Why not just keep it open all week? What are we, the faithful employees, going to be doing during those four days? The only thing I could figure was clean-up work (::wince::) but wouldn't the park need to be in perfect shape in time for the 4th? So what would be left to do? If anyone has any ideas, could they let me know? Thanks!

They are closed because in previous years there are no guests durning that week, and we were only open till 6 anyways. As employees, in Park Op anyways, I know it will be spent training and cleaning, at least it what we did in 2000 when we were closed that week
how many hours a day does that equal? training and cleaning during those 4 days? how many hours a day is that usually?

Probably only 8 hours JDawg from 10 am to 6 pm. That's how long the days are for training week with the exception of company-wide orientation (affectionately known as Elieen's classes :+) which is the day after you process in. Mine was from 1:30 pm to 9:30 pm, but we got out an hour and half early.

I'd rather go and sit in the classes, but that's mainly because I don't have a lot of time to myself due to school.

I think it's a great idea. Sit down in front of a computer, listen to any kind of music you want, and take the online training thing. It'll be a lot better than sitting in the class listening to speakers talk and the silent hum of the building. I really don't mind as long as they pay me eventually. :) (Although, it would be nice if they forwarded a check within a week or two... I understand their reasons for not doing that though.)

What kind of training do they do on-line?

Yeay, I just so happen to still have that "Internet Training" piece of paper floating around my desk so I will copy what it says to answer your question.
"The subject areas covered include: new park facilities and attractions, a review of the Cedar Fair, L.P., Harassment, Grooming, Drug and Alcohol and Open Door policies. Additional sections about employee awards and a special section dedicated to introducing you to the management staff you'll work with, learning their goals and work performance expectations they have for you this season."
Pretty much all the same stuff you would cover if you had to do live training, except you do it on your own... At the end of it, you take an online test, and if you get 80% of the questions right you pass "with Honors." If you don't get 80% right, you have to take an additional 2 hours of live training once you get to CP. (This is only for retunring employees; I assume anyone who's new or doesn't have a computer does the live training when they get there).

When does online training start?

More fun quotes... (I should just scan this.. hee hee!)
"After March 11, and six weeks prior to your agreement listed 'start date,' you will receive an e-mail message from Cedar Point, along with your own, individual password, that will allow you to begin your on-line training immediately."
So technically, it can start anytime after March 11... If you're supposed to do this you'll get an e-mail when it's time.

Just think...the beauty of technology will allow us to train for CP at 3 am or 3 pm. :)

All right, thanks for the info...last year however, CP opened on the 5th and then just stayed open...granted, there was hardly anybody there. I think there was a point when I counted ten guests in all of Area Two ;-) Those were the days...haha.

As far as the online training, I think it's great! The training at the park isn't bad, but since this is not my first year, I really don't want to have to go through live training again - I'm eager to just get started with my job.

I think the online training is better than sitting in the class, but I don't see why returning employees should have to go through any training at all.

I Agree but Online training will be good just to see some of the other procedures we may have missed in the manuals.

Six weeks prior to my start date would be Feb. 18... Gotta love that Cedar Point logic.
