Why not a city-walk type place for CP??

using the logic that there would be no profit in the winter time so therefore there should be no nightlife is insane. By using that logic, there should be no amusement parks in the north because they can't turn a profit in the winter. which is wrong. *** This post was edited by Bill Bradley on 4/24/2001. ***
And I thought democrats had "fuzzy math" ;) Guess I'm wrong

It think you're going a bit far. The Sandusky area had an outlet mall that just bombed! I went there when in 1994 and it was great. Then I went about 2-3 years ago, and there were literally 3 stores there...literally. Why? Who's visiting November - April? I don't think a City Walk will work in the off-season in a small tourist town for this same reason.

Maybe not retail stores, but bars and restaurants will work. Just open from May to October, shut it down for the winter. That's what I meant with my Put-In-Bay example. Most of the places there are seasonal, and they make a ton of money.
That's what I was thinking. I know that's what the clubs in PCB (LaVela, etc.) do. Between late March or early April and early June, if I remember correctly.

REMEMBER: No one says that you have to do it on as large of a scale as Citywalk, ect.
How about even keeping the Red Garter open for about two hours after closing time for hotel guests only?
Cedar Point seems to market to different groups every season. Camp Snoopy brought a quieter, but more crowded season than Power Tower did. Although, the park seems to draw the type of crowd that the new attraction seems to attract, it is clear Cedar Point tries to attract the majority of people. And family crowds ensure the most money. They tend to buy more souvenirs, more tickets, and also stay at the resorts facilities more often than single or couples with no children.

Keep in mind that the vast majority of people will be in there 40's and above this season. Parks have been going through great lengths trying to keep some of the more slow paced rides and adding new ones. The general idea is that this will attract majority of the people. This may prove that a city walk idea is pretty good. *** This post was edited by Magnum is sinking! on 4/28/2001. ***

My wife and I just got back from a week in Orlando. After a good deal of time on the Disney property, I've made a few conclusions. The biggest is that Cedar Point/Sandusky really needs to have some type of "Downtown Disney" area with stores, restaurants and nightlife. Of course, Downtown Disney is absolutely huge and open year round. But on a smaller scale (both in size and the number of months it would be open), this concept would fit in very well in Sandusky and/or Cedar Point. A couple of restaurants, a few shops and some nightlife would go a long way. It would also enhance Cedar Point as a multi-day destination. It's more than just adding a bar, too. Downtown Disney is enjoyed equally by families, younger and older adults and couples. It's quiet and peaceful during the day and colorful and fun at night.

On another note, I was also impressed with the way Disney handles parking. Whoever is in charge of traffic flow at Cedar Point should spend a week with his/her counterpart in Orlando :)
