If Cedar Point wants to become more of a resort type place....I saw they develop an area like downtown disney or universal's citywalk. They bring in a few clubs, big restaurants, some stores and other fun things...and they've got something that will be a BIG draw for people to stay overnight. Think about once the park closes...going back to your hotel, getting dressed and going out to a place like that till around 12 or 1, or later. It would be really cool. They could also have it around water with some of the restaurants being right on the water. Anyone here ever been to a Bahama Breeze restaurant? I think that would fit right in. If they built it on the mainland...it might even help improve the area around it because more retail stores and restaurants will come. CP has got a resort, but they are REALLY lacking in the nightlife area.
I think the main reason CP would NOT do this is simple.. This is a seasonal park, only open for part of the year. All those other places are in places where the weather is great all year round. Sandusky in the winter, well... sucks...
It would be almost impossible for them to turn a profit if they kept it open all year.

I've been told that they are looking at something to add a "night life" for Cedar Point. That doesn't necessarily mean that the park itself would be park of it, though.
Cedar Point is a family park. Unlike WDW they are trying to bring more families with small children to the resort. Not more adults and young adults. There was a reason for Camp Snoopy.

Live for FUN!
GO SHAMROCKS!
GO WOLVERINES!
How is WDW not a family park?? I would think CP is the one aiming at more of an teen/adult crowd. Yes they have stuff for smaller people, but the majority is aimed at the older crowd. Have you ever been to downtown disney? It's not ALL for the old crowd. DisneyQuest? Cirque du Soleil...those have a broad range.
Yes, I know the seasonal thing is the problem...but I think some of it could close during the winter...either that or CP could offer discounts at the radisson, and lure people up with that. Stores, restaurants, and clubs are in buildings...not out in the snow, and ohio is lacking a lot of this, even in cleveland, columbus and cincinatti. The flats is more about bars than anything..not kid oriented.
I don't think seasonal entertainment, restaurants, etc. would be much of a problem. Look at Put-In-Bay, about 16 mi. northwest of CP (by boat), and that is a totally seasonal place. In spite of that, it was voted as one of the top 10 party places in the U.S. by Playboy magazine. Nightlife would fit right in with CP's resort atmosphere, and is LONG overdue in my opinion.

Again.... in teh winter Put In Bay is dead.. no profit.. it makes no sense...

You also have to think about how tired most people are after spending a whole day at cedarpoint. I'm usually exhausted after a great day at the point, and just want to crash onto the bed after I leave the park.
I don't think Cedar Fair would try anything like this. The only thing I would hope for is some business would open up some nice restaurants, bars, whatever on the mainland. I for one would venture in one of these establishments and would be all for it. The only problem I see is that from 3am-10pm there will be no business.
WDW and CP are hard to compare. CP at the most is a 2-3 day stay. What people do during the day is go in the park, and I doubt they would spend their time outside of the park to do some of these things.
WDW is a 3-7 day stay. They have tons of other things to offer like golf, other sporting activities, Shows outside the parks (The Polynesian Luau :) ) and of course the activities that we want like shopping and restaurants. I highly doubt CP could ever build itself up to a multi-demetional stay like WDW.
You go to Put-In-Bay on the otherhand to shop, eat, drive golf carts and get hammered (in that order), not to ride coasters. From 9-am to 10pm, those places still do good business, where as a place around CP may not
If someone could open up some places and make them profitable, Id be there :)
Has anyone been to Panama City Beach? The two major night clubs, Spinnaker's and LaVela are huge money makers (I paid $15 to get into LaVela over)and they are fairly seasonal. The only time they are really open are the month of March (Spring Break) and a month or two in the summer, that's it. And they turn HUGE profits. Spinnaker's cover is $10 for 21+, and LaVela's depends on what time you go. The later it gets, the more it'll cost ya. I think it would be a great idea.

I've been to LeVela several times when I lived in Alabama.. Again, Panama City has much better weather.. yes it's still seasonal but they have the weather to stay open all year. And they have an all year tourist flow.
No one wants to go to "How deep is the snow?" Sandusky in December.
*Quick shout out to the guys from Still Rain, former house band for LeVela and good friends of mine and coaster nuts, email me (I know you read this site) and we'll organize a CP trip. Rob.. Roxxane's DJ

I've been saying for ages that they need a night life. The first time I stayed at Breakers, pre-Tower, everything was dead by midnight. Unreal.
Since TGI Friday's opened, you can see that there is obviously a substantial need for something adult to do after hours. That place is a zoo and you often can't even get into the place.

Futuristic bow-wow... do the dog catcher!
I think it would be cool if they remodeled the ballroom above the main arcade into a night club kinda place for the adult population. You could still leave the room open for conferences and speakers and the such, but also have music, dancing and of course adult beverages.

Yeah, I dont see why anyone would think that a 'nightlife' establishment would be a bad idea. I mean didnt all 'traditional' parks have ballrooms anyway. If you had a little club, it could be open only during the park season. It wouldnt take that much money (relative term) to operate, and if anyone has ever purchased a malted beverage from anywhere aside from a liquor store then you know alcohol can *easily* be sold for a 200% profit.

I live in Northern Michigan about twenty miles from Mackinaw City. Mackinaw City and Mackinac Island are both dead during the winter months, but from May to October everything is open. (Pretty much the same length of season as Cedar Point.) The stores, hotels, and restaraunts all make a good profit during the short season. Many people in this area make their living completely during the summer months. Mackinaw City, now, even supports a live theater which runs a Broadway style show from May to October.
I'm sure that if Cedar Point had similar entertainment options, they would do fine.

...and enjoy the rest of your day at Cedar Point, The Am-aaaa-zement park!
I'm telling you--they are definately looking for something. When, I couldn't tell you, but they are definately looking!
I just had an idea. CP should develop the City Walk/Entertainment area in the section of parking lot that is next to the South Basin (the undeveloped harbor next to the parking lot). This would be perfect for some waterfront bars and entertainment. They would have a ready made area for boaters to dock. This would be BIG with area boaters, in addition to park guests. Right now TGIFriday's and the Marina Restaurant on Marblehead are the only places outside of the islands which has that type of service to boaters. I think this would work, and be an asset to the entire area, not just CP hotel guests.
That's a GREAT idea, never thought of the boaters :)
I one time took a boat to CP and was surprised how crowded it was around the Marina, especially at Bay Harbor. So addition places are probably needed, just for the boaters. So from 9am-10pm there would be some good business. If CP did this, it could attract more peeps for the starlight admission too. People could go in to the park at night and after that spend some time wining and dining.
A day boating on Lake Eire, followed by a evening at CP, then some dining at night. Me Like.

I don't know if this has changed, but the last time I stayed at Breakers, security would not let you walk the beach. I love doing that a night. It's so peaceful.
CityWalk is cool, but how do you convince shops and restaurants to only open for 5 months? If it were open all year, let's not forget climate. I don't think the locals will be going there to hang out when it is 10 degrees outside. CityWalk is definitely a tourist attraction.
