Why not a CCI Woody

I think Michigan's Adventure demos what a wooden coaster can do for a park. Timbers put MIAdv on the map. You'll notice that CF started inquiriing after the park just after it opened to rave reviews.
...Furthermore, I think it was a cinch that Cedar Point would NEVER get another wood coaster after the disasters known as Hercules and Mean Streak. Until Cedar Fair bought Knott's. And Michigan's Adventure. Now Cedar Fair has two coasters...GhostRider and Shivering Timbers...which are the antithesis of Mean Streak and Hercules. Kinzel reportedly loved Shivering Timbers, and I think the success of the two CCI coasters that Cedar Fair bought may dramatically increase the chances of Cedar Point finally getting a good wood coaster.

I already taste the CCI woodie. It would be a great fit for the park.

What business sense does a CCI woodie make? Well, the most obvious is that you can have a nice one for about $2 to $4 million. That's an inexpensive coaster, gives you something new to market off of, and revitalizes an area of the park that is currently dead.

The public is starting to get savy about the fact that bigger isn't always better. There are just too many winning CCI's out there that have had good mainstream press to ignore that.

Of the major new coasters since 1976, all but two (Iron Dragon and Avalanche Run) broke records when they opened. This is in addition to Power Tower, Snake River Falls and White Water Landing, which also set new marks. Can the trend be coming to an end? Stay tuned ...

That is exactly what I was thinking- it would break the trend. But would it be possible to set the record with a CCI?

Good points given by all. It does start to make more sense given what Jeff said about the public becoming more savy to the idea of wooden coasters.

Gemini's comment about record breaking rides is what prompted me to ask the question initially. It'll be very, very interesting to see what happens!

They could still keep the record breaking tradition going. What about steepest drop, most air-time, or most overbanked turn ? These can all be accomplished without trying to break height and speed records. It seems to me that a CCI coaster could be coming to Cedar Point soon.

One record they could shoot for is the longest coaster record. I realize that CP does not have the sprawling space required for a footprint like The Beast's, but they could surprise us with a very creative layout (i.e. a quadruple out-and-back-twister combo..:)).

Logan, who is drooling at the thought of a CCI packed with 4 minutes of ridiculous airtime and intense laterals...
I think when people think CP now a days, they think: "Big, fast, record" I mean it is kind of true just looking at their ride stats and skyline. So a "normal" woodie (CCI) might not appeal to the GP who just see CP as a "record park". I don't know how everyone thinks, so mayeb some think that and some don't.

Guys... CP could easliy gor for the "est" record, w/ STEEPEST! That's something that wouldn't be to traumatic for CP and it would draw the GP's attention to it!

"Your obssesed w/ that place aren't you?"
Of course, it would be steepest wooden coaster (steep steelies include Hypersonic, Oblivion, etc). Does anyone know the current steepest woodie?

Steuks!!
5600' buys you the longest 1-lift wooden record.

Rattler is 61.4 degrees. I think that's the highest.
By comparison, Colossos (Heide Park) is 61, Coney Cyclone is 58.4, Son of Beast is 55.7, Shivering Timbers is 53.3, and Mean Streak is 52.

So 62 degrees buys the angle record for a little while, at least.

Most air will be hard to top w/ anything less than 5000', as Shivering Timbers boasts around 30 seconds of air on a good run.
"and revitalizes an area of the park that is currently dead".

Is this clue number 1 ? ;) *** This post was edited by Judge Roy Scream on 6/12/2001. ***

For my first post on this forum I'd like to chime in. First of all over 5600' ft. would not give you the record for longest wood coaster with one lift. It would have to be over 7200' because of SOB (which has the record for longest wood coaster with one lift, not Shivering Timbers). I think CP needs a woodie badly. I took my first visit last week and while I absolutely love the park there was something missing. That something was a good woodie. Blue Streak is average, and lets just say that Mean Streak is far from good. I think a wood coaster is very marketable also. Look what Knott's did with Ghostrider and what Holiday World did with Raven and Legend (of course those are smaller parks, but it is still possible). Also if they add the coaster to a new area of the park it would do wonders. I would love for once to see CP not try to break a record and just build something great (not that some of their previous record breakers aren't great). CP could also save money and space with a CCI because CCI's are very inexpensive (2-4 mill.) and they can squeeze it in a tight area if needed (look at Cornball Express). I think a CCI would work for CP and I would love to see them get one.

Can you imagine shivering timbers running along the beach?!!!!

WOW!I just got chills, seriously. If CCI can do great with 4 million imagine what they could do if completly unleashed! WOW!

honestly, I don't know if Shivering Timbers would work for CP. They already have the Magnum for airtime. I think they need a good GCI twister or some kind of combo between the two.
Just please don't hold your breath till we get the CCI.. I'm not giving anyone CPR when they pass out...

Going along the lines of the most of something, I remember back to a somewhat possible rumor. It had to do with being the most tunneled coasters ever. And CCI knows how to tunnel their coasters...:)
