Why does the park keep 3 driving attractions?

Good Grief...'s avatar

I have wondered in the past this question & since I'm on vacation, (:)!!!) I thought I'd post this.

Why has the park kept Antique Cars, Turnpike Cars, & Cadillac Cars yet took down the only remaining flume? (No, I'm not whinning about missing WWL again...it's just part of my point)

I just can't figure their logic in deciding to hold unto three of the same concept tranquil rides. Don't get me wrong. I'm all for them adding more of these mid range "moderate thrill" attractions as ya'll know, but I just don't know why they don't branch out to provide a more diverse offering.

Many, many, many (did I mention many?) people ride these rides. WWL was losing ridership and it just wasn't profitable compared to Maverick. You could use this logic too: why did they stop using the aquatic stadium? Because they have bigger plans for the area.

I do realize that ridership may be high. But I think that has to do with so little else for people that want mid range rides being available. Doing the exact same thing 3 times becomes boring. My kids loved being the driver when younger, but my question is, is it really a good idea to keep 3 rides with the exact same experience, save for a little theming difference?

(Congrats on Braedon if I haven't said that yet!)

It is a break ride. I think its a great idea to have 3 different locations for this small ride throughout the park. Not only is it historic, it provides a break for little kids and even adults.

I see your point about three versions of the same ride.... However the line is always long at all three whenever I walk by. Until ridership has a major decline, I don't see them consolidating these up anytime soon. I enjoy them as well, especially with my niece and nephew. It allows them to actually "drive" a car at such a young age.

I say they should get rid of one of them. I mean, yeah, they're always a nice break ride, but the lines are foreverrrrrrr. And they both take up a lot of space, so they could build something else over it. It's just my opinion.

In addition to my belief that lines are partly long due to such limited choices available, I wonder if it is also due to the nature of the ride taking a long time to run people through due to loading, ride, & unloading? (Not at all saying the ops are slow...I'm refering to only the nature of the ride? Don't know if that is true or not.)

(OK, way to many posts by me. Vacation+Diet Coke/Lipton tea binge = 1 hyper woman. I've added "Ready to Go" to my IPod list of approved running songs & I'm off to get rid of some of this energy :))

I love all three, so do my kids. It is a great "Fanily Ride" all four of us can do it together. It also serves as a great distraction for the kids while one parent rides and the other parent waits. It also serves as "down time" the parent can relax and the kids have fun.

GM should put their BAS hybrid system on the Cadillac Cars. It would be great marketing for both CP and GM. Then remove the Antique Cars, put the Caddys' on them, rip out the Caddy and leave the Turnpike Cars. A nice ride could fit in the Caddy Cars footprint anyway. This leaves tranquil car rides in the front & back of the park. *** Edited 11/24/2007 8:07:52 PM UTC by Coastern3rd***

I was thinking about this one day and noticed how much room could be used for a small coaster (like a Mack or something) if the Cadillac Cars were to be removed.

Ridership on the Turnpike cars isn't high. When the park is extremely busy and I'm bored because I don't want to stand in long lines, its one of the few rides I force myself into, just so I'm not standing around.

^^Did you intentionally include half of Turnpike cars in your blue box? If you include that then yes there is a lot of room.

Hmmm, I'm not sure about losing any more trees on that end of the peninsula.... *** Edited 11/24/2007 10:50:26 PM UTC by Jay McKinney***

We won't lose trees, use them to build the coaster. =]

LOL, funny you should mention that idea. Raptor fits right in between both Turpikes and Cadillac Cars' tracks. CP's planning did an excellent job in building Raptor around those rides.

I heard a rumor saying that they were going to take out Antiques to fit Maverick in, of course they diddnt. Maybe on of plans was for Maverick to be bigger?

I think this goes to show how much room in the park is left for expansion if you think of what duplicates can be eliminated.

I think children might agree that they would rather have something else to do other then drive a vehicle three times over so when the time comes these areas could be recycled.

If they had to make use of the space they would I think.

There is room for a 500 footer after all.

Cadillac and Antique cars are far enough apart to keep them both. Antiques have a great theme fit with Frontier Town. Cadillac cars have a long and happy history - they should never go.

Now, the Turnpike cars are ripe for an upgrade. The current model car is very hard for an adult to get into to accompany a child. I tried on one trip with a niece and felt like a contortionist! Update the cars with something cutting edge, like that hybrid idea above (see if GM will co-sponsor to cut the cost of the new cars) that are sleek and look fast. The kids will be lining up and the parents will be joining in.

If any of the drive-it-yourself rides are going away, I'd look towards Turnpike Cars. Calypso is right there as well and that area has seen better days. It would be a tight fit for anything though since, Raptor's cobra roll and mid-course is there and I don't see Blue Streak going anywhere in the near future.

I refuse to ride cadillac cars because of certain [nasty] reasons. But antique and turnpike cars are great and relaxing and for resting in the shade and a break from the crowded midways.
