Why a SECRET ?????

I told CP they should be like SFGrtAd was with Nitro and not say a word about it until it's done. I don't know what difference it makes for anyone to know how big, how fast or even what it's name is. None of us will be riding it until May (some sooner than others ;)) and I find it exciting we have no real clue to this po!nt. At work every day I hear, "so I heard CPs building a new ride, what is it?" I say "some big yellow thing and that's about all I know." I would venture to guess you guys shake your Christmas gifts, don't ya? :)

It's all about getting around the barrels, or over the fences, right leads, no faults, fastest time and looking pretty when done. What's so hard about that? :)

Well, Running it during the Super Bowl would be VERY expensive. I dont think CP would put out so much. But then again its CP. If not during the superbowl...They should do it some time during these weeks.

I think I may have the answer as to why we don't have an announcement yet. Does anyone remember when CP announced MF?? They did it right in July of 99, MF was to be the tallest, fastest and steepest coaster in the world for the 2000 season, but announcing it so early gave the Japanise an advantage and got SD up later that year which took away the tallest coaster record from CP. So I see it as a way to hold onto records a little bit longer
Really? I had no idea. Thanks for bringing that to our attention.
Do people still believe that these rides can be concieved, located, negotiated, designed, fabricated, shipped, erected and tested in anything less than a year? Does anyone really think you can call up someone and say "We need two 500' cranes for 3 months and we need them like oh, how about next week?" It was about 13 months from the MF announcement until Steel Dragon was opened. Assuming that to be the minimum time frame, they could have announced in September and still held the record for all of their 2003 season. Even if someone could get a coaster installed in 9 months, CP still could have announced in November and held the record at least thru Labor Day '03. The delay has to be related to a marketing push for passes and hotel accomodations after the first of the year.
If you ask me, as long as I have to pay to get into CP, they aren't spoiling me....they're just enticing me to come back with new coasters and attractions. If they were actually spoiling us, they'd let us all in for free and ask us what coasters we'd like to have built next. It would be a bad business move for CP to just sit back while other parks progress onward and build more rides....
If Cedar Point had not build any new rides since Maggie, do you think there would be a Breakers East, Breakers Tower, Breakers Express, Lighthouse Point, etc? Of course not.

In fact, if they had not built new rides since then I suspect Cedar Fair would not have bought World's of Fun, Knott's Berry Farm, the Soak City's, and Michigan's Adventure either.

They aren't putting new rides up to make us all feel warm and fuzzy. They put new rides in to make us continue to open our wallets.

Oldrider, those 'rocket things' that you saw were parts for the hydraulic launch. I thought they were trains back when the pics first came out as well, but like you said, way to small etc... I'm pretty sure they are parts for the launch.

Peace I'm Out

I think it's laughable that people still think that a ride can be changed or conceived at the last minute.

Why not? You can do it on RCT, right?

Cedar Point does spoil us: so we come back again and again! Of course they listen to what we have to say, its good PR which equals good business.

Speaking of spoiling, here's a spoiler for you:

The public release date for the ride info is MONDAY, JANUARY 6TH.

Remember that date.

That's the best comment I have seen regarding Cedar Point "spoiling" us.

As a die hard Po!nter I go/would go to CP even they never added another ride ever. As for the "spoiling" statement. It is a fact that we here aren't the reason CP keeps adding new things to the park. CP makes their REAL $$ on the families that consider CP their "vacation". People who stay at their resorts, pay almost full price (or full price) for admission, eat their park food, buy tons of souvenirs. Those are the reasons CP builds new rides. I know my season passes pay themselves off by mid May, not to mention I have made several CP trips and not spent a DIME at the park. I am positive many of you can say the same thing. Build a new coaster, they will come :)
Break some more records, more will come :) :)
As for me, hand me a "Depends" and I'm on the new ride. Then you will probably find me back at the green bird! :)

I disagree slightly with you Jo. SFWoA has learned that, "Build a new coaster, they will come" is not necessarily a true statement.
Of course they want our money...its a business! Thats what they do, in order for a business to survive they have to "profit" money. You have a choice to go to CP, if you dont want to go no one is going to force you. I think you guys are thinking about it too hard. If they didnt "take" our money then there would be no MF, no #16 and so on. It costs money to build these damn things and they have to make money to give us more. Just because its an "amusement" park doesnt mean that they build it all for us to enjoy and not expect anything in return. Someones gotta pay the ride ops to push buttons, and the matinence guys to keep things all greased up. And your damn right they spoil us. In an amusement park sence we are spoiled. Take a look around at other parks...they want peoples money too, but look what those people are gettting in return. Not nearly as much or such quality as we got. You guys crack me up. You think someone started Cp just to make money.. Do you think they spend years on end developing new rides and technologies for us to enjoy JUST to make a few bucks? There is much easier ways to make money, why would they do something like this JUST to take our money. They do it because they enjoy making people happy, but it unfortuntly in he real world, it costs money to do this and we as big boys and girls have to pay for such pleasure. Not a bad price for 10-12 hours of pure fun if you ask me...
I think you missed Jo's point, Chief. She said she would go even if they never added another ride...which is my view exactly. THere IS more to CP than just the rides. There has to be something besides the rides that bring the GP from all over the country back to their resorts. They aren't going to come, even for a new record breaking ride, if they did not enjoy a previous experience.

I'd rather die living than live like I'm dead

Frankly, my local park added nothing since 2000. In 2001, attendance dropped off 10% but leveled off in 2002. Oh...did I mention that the gate price went up in 2002? The kiddie and senior rates almost doubled too without any new rides--and people still went.

Does CP have to add new rides? Sure. Did they have to follow up a Giga coaster with the tallest contraption on earth? Heck no. Are you spoiled? Better believe it.

Your right OldCPer, I didn't follow it all. SFWoA thinks they can build a new ride and the masses will swarm but they neglect service, cleanliness, etc and that is why people are staying away in droves.

A new ride might invigorate the public to check you out again but it won't keep them coming back.

I like IOA. I have been twice. Nice park, clean, friendly but I probably won't go back until they do something different.

The only folks who really care this time of year what CP's new golden arches are a a few roller coaster nerds on this board. Maybe Kinzel likes teasing the faithful? Its not all that important.

FUN has a superior product bar none;down to their corporate structure (they pay very little corporate income tax!). Their parks are simply the best in the world. It takes a passionate and driven team to make such a complex endeavour a success and it shows in everything that CP does.

I don't think that could really be true. I think there are a lot more nerds out there than you give them credit for. If not, why would CP be wasting their money on multi-million dollar rides? That's seems like simple economics to me...CP is a business, not a charity.
