Who will hold the 'most coasters' title?

TekGuy's avatar
From Cedar Point, they claim Dragster will enter their 16th coaster, "more than anywhere else on earth," while Six Flags Magic Mountain claims Scream will be their 16th, "shattering its own Guinness Book world record for most coasters on the Planet."

So who will really hold it, or am I missing something?

Cedar Point is still clinging to the ridiculous assertion that Magic Mountain's Superman: The Escape, is not a coaster. I was willing to let that slide for a long time, but once they built Wicked Twister and called it a coaster, I side with the general populous that their claim is stupid.

Cedar Point and Six Flags Magic Mountain will tie for the record.

DELETED!

Why would they say that Wicked Twister is a roller coaster and Superman isn't? Why don't they just say they're both not and tie at 15? (jk, of course)

While Wicked Twister and Superman are kind of a grey area, I still look at Superman as a freefall and Wicked Twister as a coaster. Here's why. Superman is a launched free fall ride because it goes up once and goes down once. Also the profile of the ride is very much like Demon Drop, considered a free fall and not a coaster. Wicked Twister is a shuttle coaster. It has multiple elements in the twisting action. It also has track on both sides of the station and negotiates the course multiple times. In my thinking, if Superman is a coaster, Demon Drop would have to be one as well.

Florida may have Disneyworld and Key West,
but Ohio has Cedar Point and Put-In-Bay.
It's great to live in Ohio!

I very much agree with Pete on this one. I have always thought if they count Superman as a coaster, then Demon Drop should be counted as one too.

There are 24 hours in a day, and 24 beers in a case. Coincidence?

If that were the case then Freefall woudl be a coaster as well and we would be tied at 17.

While I call S:TE a coaster, in my sense of the word it isn't one if First Gen Free falls aren't.

To me a coaster has to have either an articulated train or lateral movement. Linear Gale has an articulated train but no lateral movement, same for Arrow and Schwartzkopf shuttle loopers. Coasters like wildcat and wild mouses have lateral movement but no articulated train.

Wicked twister has both an articulated train and lateral movement.

S:TE, Tower of Terror and First Gen Freefalls have neither articulated trains nor lateral movement.

Is S:TE a coaster? IMO yeah, but I have no idea why.

Thats right Virginia, I am Santa Claus.

SFMM never has 15 coasters open on the same day. Every freaking six flags park always has rides down! its ridiculous. X was down for months. They always have other rides down for long periods of time. CP should just sit coasters there and never run them, put them in the parking lot or something. And for Superman...it can easily go either way!

D/\MN GINA!!!!!!!!

Bite your tounge for saying CP "should just sit coasters there and never run them"....

...they are the best park in the world for a reason. I'd like it to stay that way!

^SO TRUE. They had one of their coasters, Flashback, down from February of '02 to just last month. Probably cause the guys from the Travel Channel or Guiness were coming. LOL. Yeah, Ninja's never open in the morning, Flashback (in addition to what I said) is closed all spring and summer due to the waterpark being right there (why not put up a soundwall like Mulholland Madness at DCA-Themed on the waterpark side), Psyclone (fortunate closure there). SFMM could give a rats ass about guest comfort, its all the record for them. Its one of the crappiest parks ever if they were to take out all of the coasters. There was one show (just winging it- ROTFLMAO thats a stupid name). The other ones were in "rehab". At least other parks- like Knotts (I measured the entertainment schedule to be over 16 inches in length- there were about 12 shows this summer, normally 6 in the winter), and they have something called other attractions (like the calico mine ride, log ride, mystery lodge, tampico tumbler, independence hall, a museum of the west, and more). Disneyland is great too- they know how to really put on a show from the moment you enter the gate and escape into a fictional wonderland. Boy I side tracked, from most coaster record to disneyland show.
As far as Superman goes, I could care less if it's a roller coaster or not. If the people at Guiness say CP has the most coasters, then they do. I'd leave it up to Guiness to decide, because, isn't that the decision that counts.
So somebody build one more.

Somebody? You mean CP?

And really, who cares? I can drive to CP in 2 hours while the drive to Magic Mountain is just a tad bit longer. Even if the mountain had more coasters, I'd still be going to CP. A line in the Guiness Book doesn't change my day at the park.
First of all if Wicked twister isn't considered a rollercoaster then Deja Vu wouldn't be one either. Putting CP ahead 15-14.

Second did anybody notice that the Scream press release said that S:TH was the only coaster to break the 100 mph speed barrier. Yet another false claim from Six Flags.

If you don't like it, Shut Up and don't get in line.

eh "Scream! will mark the park's "sweet 16th" roller coaster...shattering its own Guinness Book world record status as the theme park with the most coasters on the Planet!" have they always been this close in the race or what?

So which park is lieing cp or six flags *cough six flags cough*
------------------
wood stand for...Wood Out Of Date.. sledding is the only thing that is close to cp in the winter.., The way i put it six flags needs more parks to keep up with the one and only cp :)

Well isn't CP planning on building a kiddie coaster where peanut's playground is?? That is what I heard. But you know how these rumors are!!!

Gemini '02 & '03

Both parks have the same number of coasters. They are equal for now. We even have some of the same types of coasters. Stand-up, hyper, wooden, inverted, launched, kiddie, mine train, racing, and arrow loopers. CP has the better inverted, and SFMM has the better stand-up.
Good lord people. Do you honestly think Joe Ohio gives a crap what Mr. California is building? We're talking about two different markets to attract from. Does Cedar Point like boasting about records? Hell yeah they do. But amusement parks are run so they can raise money, not so they can have a certificate and your name in a book. If you take a look at customer satisfaction between Cedar Fair and Six Flags there is no contest.

That's the 2004/2005 rumor, Jake. :-) Oh,and holding a record doesn't help sales?

I could really care less which park has more. But to be honest I like seeing Magic Mountain getting new high tech rides. The more they push the limit, the more it challenges CP to push the limit.

Any advances either CP or MM makes will just make the industry stronger. Which translates into better rides for both us, and MM.
