Thats dissapointing that the ride time wont be any longer. I really like the ride but it needs to be longer. sky hawk should have got the longer ride time and not maxair.
On Wednesday I found out that I cant ride Skyhawk more than 2 times in a row. The rest of the day I was dizzy and felt like I was gonna upchuck. MaXair's cycle is way to long. That used to be my favorite thrill ride at the Point, but now its so long its just gets boring.
Let's Get Weird.
Jump to conclusions is right.
The air compressors that SH uses are Ingersol Rand screw air compressors, these compressors (not sure on HP but guessing about 200 apiece) will produce about 7000 CFM.
The surge tanks are just that, they are used to store air for the initial surge of air needed to get the ride moving, once it is moving it takes a fraction of the air volume to keep it swinging.
If you listen to the compressors closely while the ride is cycling you will notice that they constantly run. These types of compressors are continuous duty, they have a blow off valve (a slight hissisng noise will be heard) that allows them to continue running without continuously pumping air into the system, this is known as running unloaded. When the compressor is "loaded" it is countinualy pushing air into the system, which in this case would be through pipes to the surge tanks through a valve or series of valves and onward to the cyliders that power the arms.
I have no doubt in my mind that SH could run longer cycles, I also belive that CP and S&S are not doing so at this time due to the fact that they are probably waiting to see if what the did in the off season corrected the problem(s) that occured last season. IF all is satisfactory then I belive they will lengthen the ride time.
Beeeeehhhhhhh!!!!!
