Where whould you stay ?

We are planning a visit to CP for 2 days in early June and I'm trying to decide where to stay. Saving a few dollars is not an issue as we usually stay at nicer places. Cleanliness is probably number one on the list as well as family friendly as we have a 3 year old. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I've always been a fan of Lighthouse Point if money isn't an issue. Bayshore isn't bad either, but they don't have housekeeping, so its as clean as the guests before you left it.

Goodbye MrScott

Thanks!

(I really do know how to spell would - lol)

Well if you have a 3 year old, Breakers is where i would stay. they have breakfast with the peanuts characters in Fridays, they have a arcade, and they have the tv in the lobby that plays peanuts all day long. They also have some really nice rooms.

Firemen never die, they just burn forever in the hearts of the people whose lives they saved

Hotel Breakers for the "Disneyesque hotel"

Lighthouse Point for the "cabin on the water" feel.

Sandcastle Suites are newly renovated and also meant to be more for couples wanting a little something nicer.

I will voice my complaints against Bayshore now. I just stayed there and while the place might be "fine" if you don't mind trains probably 10 times a day going by and water that tastes / smells funny.
We used bottled water to brush our teeth even. Also you are better off bringing your own bedding at Bayshore.

I personally would stay at Hotel Breakers if I could every time and maybe try Lighthouse Point once to see how I like it.

Thanks for the input! I've read so many reviews, some not so good about each and every CP property that I'm having a hard time deciding. Although, I do understand that every hotel, no matter how good they are will have an unhappy customer from time to time for whatever reason.

Lighthouse Point is certainly unique and I love the water aspect. Our son would probably be disappointed though because it's not his idea of a "hotel" - lol.

My husband and I stayed at Sandcastle Suites when they first opened but I'm sure it's changed since then.

The Bayshore water thing is a good one to know :)

I've even considered the Great Wolf Lodge - anyone stay there before?..... although my husband would prefer staying at CP.

Honestly Breakers is the "best bet". Your in the best family hotel. You have restaurants, ice cream parlor, convenience shops, pizza hut, krispy kreme, breakfast, snacks, etc all right on site.

The bathrooms can be a little out-dated in some Hotel Breakers rooms.

I would definitely avoid Bayshore. I cannot see how people rationalize spending $120-130 a night for the same unit we had. We thought $63 including tax was plenty expensive. Also this trip was just opening weekend this year (so not even a week ago)

If your looking for other great family hotels, the three hotels with water parks; Kalahari, Great Wolf, and Castaway Bay are all going to be great choices.
In fact I LOVE Castaway Bay, but I love being closer to CP even though your just a causeway drive away. Castaway Bay not only had more modern rooms / bathrooms but you got a balcony.

Castaway Bay / Hotel Breakers is my choice because I've stayed at both.

Kalahari looks like they offer superb rooms and I've never looked at Great Wolf Lodge.

I will say this....you find a lot of horrrrible hotel reviews for the city of Sandusky in general. In general it is very hard to find a hotel that "checks out" in terms of reviews.

Whats Hotel Breakers biggest downside? You pay a lot for the outdated bathrooms in my opinion.

Single King bed I know, but you can find right off the rotunda rooms that have double queens I believe in them for reasonable rates and have this kind of a view.
Now while your in that pool down there, you look down the boardwalk and you see Wicked Twister towering above you (what seems like extremely close). Than you can walk the boardwalk of course, and eat at TGI Fridays on the beach.

I've never stayed at Sandcastle Suites but I heard they sucked, and this renovation hopefully improves upon them.

I've always heard good things about the Maples Motel on here, are they still recommended for an inexpensive stay?

Wow, factory81 thanks for the video.... that really helps to get an idea of the location, it's really got an "on the ocean" feel.

After posting last night I did some more crusing around the CP site and it really would be nice to stay right there. I've got it narrowed down to Breakers and Sand Castle (the only reason I'm even considering it is because of the renovations, otherwise it would be out of the picture). My only concern about Breakers was the possibility of getting a room in the older section of the hotel but since you can basically pick which section you'll be in, based on room type, we'd be in the newer part. I also found a map of where each property is located and love how close Breakers is to the park. It appears to be walking distance, is that correct?

One thing that I was considering as far as staying at one of the off-site water park hotels is the fact that if it rains we'd still have something fun to do. Guess we can take our chances.

Thanks again for the advice everyone.... I think I'm off to make our reservation at the Breakers.

Linda

Breakers is indeed walking distance to two gates, the Magnum gate and the Beach gate.

The Maples is a fine place, but your dealing with the trains at all hours as well with horns and all with the crossing right outside.

SandCastle suites just got renovated, it can't be to bad.

Gotta agree with Jugga, Lighthouse Point is your best bet.
It may be a little pricier, but with the cost of food in
the park, it's worth it to buy groceries and do your meals
at the cabin instead of paying ridiculous prices for lousy
food inside.

I like LHP for the water view and the privacy facor. Your neighbors are a good 10 feet away in another cabin. Nothing like sitting on the deck in the moring or evening watching the boats on the water. And Breakers is just a short drive away, and you are more than welcome to drive over and enjoy the restaurants they offer.
