Really just want to chill out, maybe watch the sunset go down and gaze at the park in the distance. Where can I do that without being in a boat or on private property?
"Best" is really subjective...
Perhaps from Key West, although you might be distracted by local scenery.
If you are an Associate, the end of A-frame row is a good place.
If you are not an Associate, I'd say the breakwall at the SYC is good, and a public space.

^One day last week around 10:00am we were in line at TTD, a fog rolled in that obscured the top of the ride as well as some of the other tall rides. It was neat to be launched and disappear at the peak briefly. But afterwards I heard an aircraft flying, it sounded like the B-25 out of Port Clinton from the rumble, the sound is pretty distinctive. It must have been above the fog layer enjoying an incredible view of the landscape.
Inside the park I enjoy the view from top of any of the lift-hills.

Where Damon's used to be. Was always nice eating dinner there with the park lit up outside the window.
Maverick since '99
The first link I posted at the beginning of this thread are the coordinates to the break wall at Battery Park where you can get a picture like that one. Plug those into Google Maps and it will take you right there.
CoasterMania cruise took us out to Marblehead Lighthouse. The view from there was pretty cool, too.
