What's wrong with the Midway Market?

I've heard about Melt, and I want to say I saw it on the Food Network. I'm going to have to head up there one of these days. It looks incredible.

I'll agree that not all chains are bad, to be honest, I even enjoy Olive Garden from time to time. Most of that is because of the one server there who is our favorite ever, but I'm telling you, their short ribs are incredible. Obviously, they don't live up to the short ribs at a lot of other places, but if you know what to look for on a chain restaurant menu, you can usually spot something pretty good.

With that said, I still have no problem with Midway Market. I know the food isn't near the quality of a lot of the places I've eaten, but for CP, you at least get to save money on average park food.

Speaking of the Food Network. There's a place about 2 minutes away from my house here In Clearfield, Pa. that's been featured on that channel. Denny's Pub. They specialize in wings with 20 some different sauces and they feature 2, 3, 6, 15, and believe it or not 50 lb. burgers ! That's their big claim to fame which is unbelievable and awesome at the same time. Their menu is also one of the biggest you'll ever find anywhere.

I kinda like Midway Market.If you're a big eater,you might enjoy that because then you would get your money's worth.Food is not great,but not bad either.I especially like their desert bar.I think it's better than most buffet style restaurants have.Bon apetit.

I remember seeing a Bobby Flay Throwdown on Food Network that featured a restaurant that made variations on grilled cheese sandwiches, and I think the place was called "Melt". I don't recall if the "Melt" on the show was located in Cleveland however, anyone know for sure?

Funny you should bring that up.My wife just made some Red Lobster type biscuits.Yummmy

You can get about the same biscuits from Schwan's, not quite as fatty.

I know I am jumping to conclusions because I have not eaten there, but I would have a hard time understanding how good a place can be when their self proclaimed specialty is "grilled cheese sandwiches". That brings up visions of the lunch lady with her hair net on.

What have we learned from this thread?

1. If like MM or Applebee's you like to eat food that tastes like poo.

2. If you like the biscuits from Red Lobster you will die a horrible slob because of the fat content in them.

Time for lunch, if I say what I have in my lunch I get ridiculed so I'll say I'm having rice cakes and alfalfa sprouts yummy. Hee.

Nobody eats amusement park food for their health.Eating junk food on occasion is no big deal.Eating it on a regular basis will kill you.

It would seem we've come full circle now on this subject. The general consensus (atleast from the resident experts) is that the MM pretty much sucks. And the reason it sucks is because of quality, price and service. So I guess the only question left is; What, if anything, can be done about it ?

What I was trying to get at in my original post before it got ripped to shredds, was that if we as CP fans are expecting a 5 star restaurant (God forbid I ever mentioned Applebees or Red Lobster) with the worlds best chef doing all the cooking, then we might be grasping for straws.

There are several things they could do (and a lot of these go for park wide).

At 13 bucks a person (even at a park), I expect a certain level of food quality, and I didn't get it when I was there. Its been a while, but after 2 bad experiences, I have't gone back.

Same with service. How am I supposed to leave a tip when we have empty glasses and don't see you for 10, 15, 20 minutes? Get rid of servers all together. Set up a station for people to drop dirty dishes when they are done and to fill their own drinks. Have a couple busboys to go reset tables when people leave. That cuts costs by itself right there.

Remember, this isn't like a Chinese buffet where they offer standard table service in addition to the buffet.

So, bring the price down a couple bucks, maybe 10 a person. Make the food a little bit better and take service entirely out of the equation and I might try it again.

Also, when its not terribly busy and you have a stack of hamburgers and I ask for two so I don't have to make a second trip to the buffet, don't tell me I can only have 1. That experience alone left a bad taste in my mouth.

Agreed . Everything you said makes perfect sense and would definitely be the way to go. So with that being said, how can we make it happen ?

John, you didn't ask correctly. Simply say, "May I have a second hamburger, for which I will gladly repay you next Tuesday."

Red Lobster cheese bisquits are indeed very fattening, 9 grams I think or 11 or something. I had to stop eating them at work or I would not be getting on MF again.

I rarely eat at Red Lobsters even though it's one of my favorite restaurants. But I defiantly om nom the biscuits whenever I do eat there. So the fattening biscuits aren't a real problem for me considering how little I eat there.
