Whats with parents and CP?

Okay, get this,

My parents used to go to CP usually once a year when they were my age. They haven't been to CP since 1998. They keep saying they want to ride MF and WT this year, becuause our second house is soooo close, (you can see MF from our deck) anyways, so I have been trying to get them to go for the past 3 or 4 years, but yet they always say "ohh, we can't take off work, and we don't want to go on the weekend..." what can I do to get them to go? are your parents like that? I mean I know they are old, and maybe can't handle every coaster, or every ride. But, still, my mom gets discount tickets from here credit union, and I really want them to ride "The Force".
Thanks

I'm a parent, almost 50, and I love CP. My husband, on the other hand, no longer wishes to stand in very long lines for a 2 minute ride on a coaster. I suspect your parents feel the same way. I'm lucky enough to have a lot of vacation time, and can take days off during the week to visit CP.

If your parents only have so much vacation time available to them, they probably prefer to use it for a nice "family" vacation rather than using days to visit CP.

Sundays aren't so bad, especially in May. You'd think they'd want to pass their good experiences along - that's the American way, after all. My dad was nearly 50 when we started going. Looking back, I'm not sure which one of us had more fun.
Its hard to just take off of work to make a rode trip. I know my mom is glad I am old enough to go alone nowadays. Its just if you had to work so many days, you really just want to rest on the days you have off. There are bills and things like that they need to worry about...gawd I don't wannna grow up

UGH....I could just go on and on how parents act about Cedar Point.....mine are no exception. I absoluty love CP, and I would live there if I could. Anyways, my parents have not been to CP since I was around 9 years old.....and I'm 16 now and going to turn 17 this July! Anyways, they say they hate CP and that's it a tourist trap. Whenever I talk about it they hardly ever listen, thinking I'm obsessed with the place...(which I am)! LOL! My mom is scared to death of roller coasters and just height in general, and my dad doesn't like any rides either. They have metioned though that it would be nice to just walk around the park and not ride anything. I wish CP would make tickets like that for people who don't want to ride..... :( :(

My grandparents think that its silly of me being twenty and still going to Cedar Point as often as I do. My grandfather hasn't been there since Magnum opened so he really hasn't seen all the newer stuff in the park. He thinks that I'm too old for the rides and that they're geared towards younger children. He's diabetic and can't walk very well anymore and I'd love to get him out there some time. Maybe this summer he'll let me take him up.

My Mom dislikes CP and hasn't ben to CP since 1985 because it's filled with rides and she hates rides. She constantly tells me that I should get a job somewhere else. She likes to talk about how back in the day they had a lot of great shows and shops. So I invited her to come visit me this summer on one of my days off to come see all the great shows, and shops. Lets see how her opion changes after that, if it does.

My dad doesn't like the coasters, and he also said that Holiday World was a tourist trap. My mom loves them, and she doesn't go because of him.

I'm a parent, and I like going. And my parents in their mid sixties are still into it, although they don't do any coastering.

That is so cool that you can see MF from your deck dt4ever. My parents are the same exact way. Last year I went to CP in June and that was my very first time, but I still got addicted. I had to BEG my parents to take me back. I had to wait all summer, and FINALLY in October we went for Halloweekends. So I had to wait my summer out by looking at brochures of the park and watching the commercials, because this was before we had our computer, so those were my only ways connected to CP.

Cedar Point is the best. I will never stop loving it. You gotta, You wanna, You have to hold on...Cedar point hold on!! :) :) :)

Magnum2G3 - It's true there are bills to pay and lots of work to do. However, it gets better as you get older, if your capable of making it so. Believe me, you want to grow up, but in the right direction. You get freedom you don't have even as a young adult.

I love taking my parents to the park. I normally do it about once a year but for whatever reason I didn't take my mom and last and now she really wants to go this year. In past years I normally take her on a Sunday. She wants to go in May this year so she doesn't have to wait in line.

The two favorite memories with taking my mom to the park was getting a ride on Magnum in 13 with the trims open on a hot August day! She walked off the ride going "wow now I know why you like that ride so much!"

The second favorite day was when I took her on MF for the first time. We got in line and I asked her if she was scared and she said no. We were on the entrance ramp near the station and a train flew by and I asked her if she was scared and she said no. We were sitting in the train right after they said clear, we were sitting in car 5 and she heard the hitch grab car 4 and she goes "now I'm really scared!"

BirdOfPrey I don't know what is up with you grandparents! I thought it was great because my gradparents would always come with us and LOVED Cedar Point. My grandpa was a fighter pilot so he loved the roller coasters. I always thought that was so cool that he would ride everything the grandchildern did!!
You can see MF from your deck? If I lived that close, I'd be at the park everytime I had free time.

I'm a parent whose CHILDREN don't like to spend time at CP! They will go, under duress, with cousins, ect--but it is never their idea...and Soak City....it's almost impossible to get them there. These guys are all teens!!!

My parents (68 & 65 yrs) bought seasons passes this year! They love the park (took me since I was a baby 38 years ago) and now want to take our kids (3 & 5 yrs) more often.

The last coaster ride for my mom was 3 years ago (Raptor at age 62 -- that did it... I have to admit the on-ride picture is priceless though!) My dad still rides all the coasters (loves Millenium Force... wishes they were that great when he was younger).

Not all parents are the same, I guess.

-----------------
Hey, I heard a rumor that Millenium Force is sinking...

I'm 48 and all my co-workers are sick of me talking about CP. Starting tomorrow, 1 month till opening day, I will have a different CP picture on my computer wallpaper as my own tribute and sort of a countdown. We started getting season passes 3 yrs ago-after our 2 oldest kids left home. (We can afford it now!) We got hooked after they started working there in 1999. Long live CP!
I feel for you, dinosaur. My son will be 16 and he was my coaster riding partner until he turned 14. He still likes coasters, and goes to CP with me now and then, but he's not nearly as interested as I am. I'd go 2-3 times a month, he's happy with 2-3 trips a season. I couldn't even talk him into going to Michigan's Adventure last year to ride Shivering Timbers, and he's still "thinking about" whether he wants to go to PKI in May. Maybe I should adopt dt4ever.

I have been going to CP with my parents for as long as I can remember. Even though I’m almost 30 now and my parents in there 50’s, we still go once a year. When I was younger, we would even travel to other parks (PKI, Six Flags Georgia, Busch Gardens, GL). My Mom only rides the smaller coasters now (Iron Dragon, DT) but my Dad still rides everything.

This year, I tried to convince my parents to get season passes. No bother telling everyone what happened. To get your money's worth you would need to go 3 times (pass-$99; price of 3 admissions-$126). They said we wouldn't have time to go 2 other times. Hmmm. Out of the whole season, there are not 2 other times we could go. What about Sundays? They are both off of work on Sunday. What's with old people...(oops! sorry to those over 40)
