What will CP do with the former Wildcat Space?

As you're all aware, CP has officially announced the removal of one of its oldest coasters, Wildcat. According to their website, Wildcat's removal was "accelerated" due to the expansion of the new Celebration Plaza. But the design plan of the new midway shows Wildcat still being there, so I, personally, believe the removal wasn't planed from the beginning.

Do you think CP is planning on filling in the gap with things pertaining to the new show, or leave the space temporarily empty?
Also, with Wildcat gone, there won't be many rides in between Jr. Gemini and the Corkscrew (intensity wise,) so do you think CP will replace it with another coaster that appeals to the same demographic?
Then again, Ouimet mentioned relocating the dorms off of the CP peninsula-- Could this have to do with a bigger coaster/project going in in that area?

I am always in favor of a new coaster ....

Not a big fan of the expanding celebration area - anything that attracts a massive amount of people standing around I tend to avoid.

I have also dreamed of a resurgence of innovative centrifugal force rides or a themed area featuring new / cutting edge Zipper / Turbo / Skydiver etc. designs .....

Finally, take the Fast Lane back to Disneyland and leave it there (It has more to do with getting more $ than customer satisfaction....)

THe space will be incorporated, probably as more midway, though I wouldn't rule out seating down the road if the show attracts a large crowd.

And when did Ouimet say housing would move off point?

He didn't say it WOULD move off of the grounds, he said this:

"Several Cedar Fair's parks have room to add family rides, but Cedar Point, built on a peninsula, has always been land-challenged. But Mr. Ouimet said the problem isn't huge. There are underutilized areas, and employee dormitories on the grounds could be relocated off the peninsula, he said." -Toledo Blade.

^ haha cedars dorms are about 100 yrs old, it would be intersting to see them torn down....but that space would actually be a great spot to expand the park. (the midway would have to cross the road, so that may not work), but it is a nice spot as it is next to the marina and what ever ride would go there you would get nice views of the bay.

The Cedars space wouldn't necessarily become the location of a new ride/attraction. It could be the location of new resort offerings like new facilities for the marina, restaurants, and that sort of thing. If Matt Ouimet aims to open up the beach to the park more on one side I would imagine he would want to look into what else could be improved on the other.

Not necessarily. I'm sure the road could be re-routed to make room for a roller coaster or ride.

Yeah I mentioned in another thread that I fully expect to see Cedars leaving in the next few years. But I don't see that being an expansion of the midway, I see it being an expansion of the Marina and/or outside dining.

Personally, I think you'll see a large bleacher section go in so guests have "height" to view the show. In fact, I think this is a must.

As far as the Cedars is considered, if you look at Cedar Point on a satellite map, and reroute the perimeter road, you'll see there will be a good chunk of land for a future ride.

A coaster could easily span the road without the requirement of rerouting Perimeter Rd. Not that I'm expecting them to put one there, but its definitely possible.

You know, the park has a LOT more space than anyone realizes. Not only can you trash the Cedars (oh, do I feel for anyone who has to live there in 90-degree heat), but you can also trash Human Resources and move it off the peninsula. Boom. Tons of room, especially with WildCat gone.

And on the other side of the park, the Gold Dorms can go too.

IMO, a lot of the offices could be moved and centralized either off property OR near the tollbooths. That is, of course, if space is more important than the money it would cost to move and re-build such offices.

Also if you look at Bing maps, if the road were re-routed you could also connect the Blue Streak midway to Celebration Plaza. This would require the Marina entrance being moved as well, but it's all possible. I think the focus, however, will be the Disaster Transport area for 2013.

It's been mentioned here before, but for you newbies, the park ran out of room back in 1994.

I agree with you. The parking for the employees is nice by the Ball Park. Take the Building down where we got our Season Passes a few yrs back for more room. The other spot would be close by Thirsty Pony too.

I feel like they could take some of the Cedars, Wildcat, area and develop it into a nightlife spot. The trick is somehow connecting it all together with the Marina and Breakers, and keeping it seperated from the park even though it would sort of be right in the middle of the park if that makes any sense whatsoever.

Getting rid of Gold wouldn't free much up unless you also relocated the maintenance shops, which are between Corkscrew and Gold. Now if you eliminated Gold and moved the wardrobe/laundry building, that could have some potential.

Since Matt Q. is interested in bringing more attention to the beach because of it's under utilization, I really think the most interesting and wasted area of the park is the old ballroom. Many don't even know that it is there, and the arcade really could be relocated almost anywhere else in the park while the makeup for Halloweekends could also be done somewhere in the Soak City property because that is shut down by September anyway. A rental tent is all they would need for the few weeks - just like in the beach area where they hold private parties.

The ballroom building could house concerts or shows once again, or it could be a great location for a dark ride or a simulator. Being right on the midway really benefits it, and if you relocated the Snoopy store you end up with a great pre-show queue.

I wonder if they would have installed the control booth in Wildcat's space if Wildcat had been previously removed.

It seems that they backed it up as far as they could, but now that Wildcat is gone maybe they will consider moving it back further (in the off-season) so that it is completely behind the walkway/viewing area.
