what were you doing 20 years ago today?

I went that year in october for my friends birthday.

At that point I had only been to Bobolo Island, the rides were tame there compared to CP. But still scared the crap out of me!

I remember my friends parents telling me i couldnt wait outside the line by myself for such a long time and had to go inline with them, they told me I would just pass through the train at the station and wait for them at the exit. What a dumbass I was! When we were next to load in the train my friends dad (a rather larger fellow) was in front of me, as the loaded he loaded first and grabbed me by the shoulder and put me down in my seat and put the lap bar down! I had nowhere to go!

Had it not have been the fact that I loved the ride after the terror of the lift hill, I would probably not have ridden another roller coaster in my life after that. But after a hiatus in my late teens, I returned to be the coaster freak that I am today at Cedar Point. Willing to travel past my "home park" and take a large group with me, without any questions to if they will have a good time.

In a week I am taking seven people to a park (Kings Island) to where they have never been. In the prospect of the best new ride of 2010 and possibly one of the top 10 steel coasters in the world!

All of this is due to the ride "Magnum XL - 200" the ride that started my love and fear of all coasters large and small.

Beeeeehhhhhhh!!!!!

Probably being conceived. I'm a little less than a year younger than Magnum. I rode it for the first time when I was 6, I believe :D

Boy oh boy we have some delinquents here on PB!;)Just one more year till I'm of age and I can get people off my back about it. I've been nagged at by my fellow co workers to do certain things at my current age (certain kinds of bars, drinking, etc) but they brush me off every time I mention the word "morals".:)

I was 3 years old, playing on my living room floor with my sister while loud 80's music blasted from my dad's stereo and the TV was on showing Magnum commercials in the background.....

I was 8 years old. I am not exactly sure what i was doing because i dont remember that far back.

Firemen never die, they just burn forever in the hearts of the people whose lives they saved

I was eight. Standing in line crying my eyes out and telling my mom i was not going to ride. I think I held my breath in protest.

I'll never forget the view from the top though. mainly because it was the only thing I saw before I closed my eyes.

I was finishing up the 1st grade in May 1989. Wasn't there opening day for Magnum, but will never forget the first time I saw it in person. Gemini always seemed so huge, until Magnum was built right next to it. Magnum was and always will be the biggest impact on CP.

I sat down into my sat about to ride Magnum, and decided that I wanted off. lol. My friend held me down and said that she was not going to allow me to leave. I still thank her to this day for that. :)

Although my first ride was eyes closed and white knuckled, I loved it. I was so proud of myself afterward. I bought the post card and on ride key chain. I would show everyone the post card of Magnum and say, "I went on that!"

I believe that Magnum is the reason for my obsession with CP. It is still my favorite coaster. Nothing beats the view of the lake when you float over that second hill. :)
