What the rest of the trade market knows

Just curious what other parks know of this ride. You know that KK was built right after TTD and just happened to be slightly taller. So how much chatter goes on between parks and/or the coaster companies? And if so, is someone looking to outdo CP with a clone of this ride? Of course, it would probably be 6Flags and they are in a big hurt right now so that may not matter.

Snyder has said they won't be building like they have the last couple years. The parks need to get their financials in order before more money is waste.....I mean invested in them.

The blind building of Coasters was what hurt the company in the first place. Geauga Lake is a prime example of this.

As for other parks, what's left? Noone else (save Disney) has the capital to build the 20+ million behemoths.

I think this will be in the 12-15 million range however. Its going to be a unique experience, but nothing "record breaking", not height, not speed, not inversions. It may have something unique (3-4 launches is my guess).

I agree. I don't think it will be a record-breaker & I don't think it's going to cost Cedar Fair any more than $15-20 mill.

It will be a record breaker.....but the price seems about right.

j2k,

Do you know something that we don't know? Hhhmmm....

Spill the beans!

First coaster to start a riot for not breaking a major record and/or the one rioters wanted it to? :P

I have already stated what I know. At this point in time it would still be considered speculation, but the fingerprints are on the gun so to speak. Study the arials from 8/5. Pay close attention to where the launch was just put in. There will be a lift above that, and there is a third row of footers between the launch and the building they are putting up. There will be 3 passes of track in this area. Now compare the arials to the track that is already in place. You can then figure out pretty easily where this ride is going and to an extent what it will do. I have been following this industry for quite awhile and know what I am looking at when I am looking at something. So trust what I am saying or dont....I really dont care, but we will see in a week. And Im telling ya, this ride will have the most inversions and standard trains. (the trains may have a theme to them, but nothing special about the seating arrangements)

j2k,

You're going to have to show me, specifically. Link to the specific picture for me. I won't be able to remember what you put! :-(

I won't know where the launch was just put in.

Gawd I hope this thing doesn't break the inversion record! Ever hear of too much of a good thing?

Besides, didn't I hear that Kinzel is not a fan of inversions?

-Tambo

He may not be a fan of them but he sure as hell wanted them on this ride didnt he? And the statement he made about inversions was before Raptor was built.

Leslie, if I am going to have to point out to you where the launch was put in, then your not really going to understand what I am refering too anyway. Dont take that the wrong way, I'm not trying to be mean, It would just take until next friday to explain everything. You would kinda need an engineering background. ;)

I'm not saying to specifically point it out. If you provide the specific picture, I should be able to see for myself.

And how do you know if I don't have an engineering background??? I could be an engineer & you just don't know it!!!!!!!

No, you're right! I'm more artsy! LOL

The fact that Kinzel made that statement before building Raptor is irrelevant, in my opinion. He says that he feels inversions for the sake of inversions (ie most inversions record) is gimmicky. Raptor's inversions aren't overdone, and make the ride what it is. If there were twice as many, I can't imagine it being as popular as it is today.

Brandon

Right, but at the time, Raptor was touted as the largest, fastes, and most inverting inverted coaster. Same with the Mantis.

Here ya go Leslie. The dots represent footers. The arrows represent direction of travel.

sunfire - I guess I should've read this thread before posting in the other one. But, I happened to notice that third row of footings last night as well. But, I'm come to the conclusion that there's only going to be the two passes of the train we've already come up with. The launch hill and the mid-course launch. That third row of footings, because its so close to the other ones has to be for angled supports. Its way to close to the other supports to have track on it. Plus, where would the track go?

There is another pic that was posted taken from mean streak that clearly shows another row of footers, it was taken from a head on shot and they are further away than what they appear.

Yes, I have that picture and am looking at it right now. That third row of footings doesn't go anywhere. Its only from about the beginning of Liberty Inn to the first piece of track that was installed. And, they are basically right on the tunnel supports, so I doub't they're for ground-level supports like the launch track. I'm pretty confident they're for lateral stability on the lift hill.

Why thank you j2k! :-)

Very good. Now I see what you were talking about. It seems as if they're going to do it layer by layer.

I think we all guessed/ hoped that this would be a launch. I did! :-) (But I also said that it would launch up into a tall hill...in the beginning stages of construction) My guess at the launch idea was just wishful thinking though.

"THE Top Thrill Dragster...THE Millennium Force...THE Wicked Twister...THE Magnum! How do you like those apples?!?!?"

So are we now thinking this is merely transfer track?

http://www.pointbuzz.com/Gallery.aspx?i=4984

My thought was if you raise a vertical support with a "|- -|" you can put one of these between it, and then another row of track on top using these supports.

That would make three levels of track without even really needing the third row of footers. I'm not so sure I believe it myself, just saying it falls within the realm of possiblity right now.

Platinum has it's perks. So does living exactly 97.5 miles from King's Island and Cedar Point

That's not transfer track. That's launch hill track. The small outriggers on the side are for the emergency stairs.
