What should I do about sickness of coasters?

Ok, so for the past couple years for some weird reason I get some motion sickness after riding coasters. Back in the day (a few years ago) I could ride anything and not get sick. I could ride MF like 30 times in a row and not get sick. Now when I go if I ride too many of the big coasters at once I get sick. Now my trips are kind of boring and slower, because I try very hard not to get sick, so I ride more of the smaller coasters.

Any advice??

Dramamine? I don't get motion sick, but I have friends who do and that works well for them. You can take a couple before the day, and once in the middle. My friend said it made her a little sleepy, but I guess that's better than being sick.

Ahh now thats a suggestion!

At the end of last season this was really starting to get to me!! maXair was bad, and then whenever I would try to look around at things on Dragster I was feeling really bad, especially the day after!

Dragster this year has been fine, but maXair...I can only ride it like 4 times before I need a long break from it. Last year I started taking Bonine, which is supposed to be less drowsy then dramamine, and that made me feel fine the next day!

My brother had bad motion sickness and took a Bonine before going to CP in the morning and said it worked awesome for him and he didn't have any problems! So consider trying that and maybe pacing yourself a little as well. Good luck!!

We used Bonine last year as a few people in our group get motion sickness... Seemed to work great for everybody.

Try not riding anymore! :-) Find other hobbies - scuba, biking etc... all fun and a great break from the G force stress on your body.

Get married and buy a house. That'll slow your visits down. :)

I would say take some dramamine. Last year we rode Raptor 3 times in a row, and I thought my sister was done for the rest of the day. She took some dramamine, and felt fine afterward. She said that it didn't make her too sleepy eathier.

Nooo, lol I will not stop riding coasters! I love them too much. Thanks for the advice guys on the medicine. I will try it next time I go and see how it works!

I am glad I don't get motion sick on coasters, spinning rides on the other hand throw my balance off like crazy anymore! Which stinks because I love the spinning rides too! As long as I can still ride coasters, I will be a happy camper!

Try wearing one of those wristbands that are supposed to be motion sickness relievers. I never had to wear one myself, but I would give them a shot. Good Luck to ya!!!

I tried Ginger pills as an episode of Mythbusters came to the conclusion was the best. Ginger pills have worked very well for me.

My dad developed motion sickness around the age of 20. He used to do just fine, but then one day he went on Witch's Wheel, which he'd been on before, and it did him in. It's gotten worse over the 30 years since and now he can't even watch a merry go round without feeling queasy. I'm keeping my fingers crossed I don't develop the same thing.

I've heard Dramamine works pretty well, but it works better for some people than others. And apparently even the "less drowsy" version of it makes you fairly tired.

As silly as it may sound, simply "practicing" tossing your body around may help. The thought is that when you're young, you're frequently jumping, somersaulting, flipping and so on, so your body is somewhat conditioned for that. As you get older, you do these things less frequently, and some people lower their tolerance for such activity. Of course, I have no idea if this is at all true.

That said, I take either Dramamine or ginger root (depending on how tired I already am), and both work well. I think I'll try Bonine on my next visit.

I was concerned about my brother being drowsy with taking a Bonine the morning of going to CP (since I only take it at night after leaving), but the way he was describing it, both being up and about helped fend off the drowsiness AND riding disorienting things as well made the chemical react to the body a little differently than just taking it and going to bed, and he said after he rode a couple of things (and felt great afterwards) he had zero drowsiness to speak of!!

I love roller coasters and I have struggled with motion sickness my entire life. Dramamine is no help and only makes me tired. A couple years ago I got a prescription for the medication patch you put behind your ear. It is a little expensive but it works perfectly for me. In the past I would eat very little when at an amusement park but last year I pigged out while riding coasters till I dropped at Magic Mountain and had no problem at all. I am going to CP in a week and the #1 thing on my list to pack is my Scopaolamine patches.

i like the ginger pills idea--will have to try that--

At the age of 62,motion sickness has been getting worse and very frustrating that I couldn't do rides as I did in the past. 2009 was a learning experience for me in the medicine realm. After getting/trying CPs' pills from their first aid stations and abiding by their dosage and times rules,I took a further step later in the season. Purchased Wal-DramII from Walgreens and take one just before I leave home for off to the point. 75 miles and 1 1/4 hours to the point. Stop at MickeyD,at Rt.2 and Rye Beach Road, and get a Angus meal, eat it in car in MickeyD lot, then continue on to the point. 1st thing at the park, hit the first aid station and take one of theirs and the rest of the day-NO MOTION SICKNESS. I found that doubling up on the dramamine with a time between doses gave me a complete cure. No drowsiness had ever occurred and actually those days had less tiredness than non-dramamine days. How well does it work,I had my best ride ever on Maverick,MF curves no longer bother me and the Mantis, which I stopped riding about 1999, I did in 2009 and it was great.
