I was disapointed, but still chose to re-up because it will still turn out to be a great deal and will much more than pay for itself next season. But I do feel your pain.
My kids are going to be mad. It priced my family out.
We'll probably still go once next year, but they are losing out on about $150-200 per visit from us for food and merchandise.
Do we know the non-promotional price will be $210? They're currently charging $180 and claiming it as being "the lowest price of the year", which also happens to be the non-promotional price for 2013 Platinum Passes. I can find nothing indicating what the regular price will be.

Now that you mention it, I do seem to recall them bumping the price during the season.
It makes sense - those passes always seemed to be priced way too low.

I haven't even looked at the prices yet. We probably won't get them until later because I haven't had a paycheck since June. We only got one as a Platinum just for parking.
For how many times I've gone to KI & CP this season...that pass has paid for itself 10x over...I went to KI twice during Labor day weekend, and twice the weekend before..That's just two weeks out of the season and it already paid for itself easily right there. Yeah cheaper is always better, but it's still a good value honestly. If it ever its 250-300 though I may have a word or two

I wish they were like $300 each. Not because I have money to burn, but just to price more people out. They are a tremendous value, but too many people have them, which has really watered down some of the "perks" such as early entry and ERT.
Or maybe they need to come out with a "Rhodium" pass which would be more expensive and have additional perks that the Platinum pass does not?
I would prefer not to be priced out. I've only gone to early entry once and never do ERT so I won't be in your way. I'm in it for the free parking.
Pretty sure Cedar Fair didn't decide to raise the price by having a couple of folks in a meeting have a discussion along the lines of "So, like, how much you think we can raise the pass price? Twenty bucks? Thirty? Forty?"
If they've raised the price $30, they have reason to believe the market will absorb the increase with little pushback.
I'm a Marxist, of the Groucho sort.
While I got much less value out of my pass this season (fewest trips I've done by far since becoming a passholder in 2001) I'll still renew for next year. I may be doing 5-6 trips a year instead of 30+ like "back in the day" but it's still worth the value of the pass.
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun
I'll still probably renew, but the end-of-season renewal price has jumped from $140 to $180 in just 2 seasons.
Even as an enthusiast, the value is starting to get debatable. The only parks I'll likely visit next year are Kings Island & Cedar Point. During the slower times this season (usually the times I visit anyway), I've seen deeply discounted tickets for $20-30 for both parks.
I don't really need to visit CP & KI more than two times each in a season. I like the freedom & convenience of going to these parks whenever, but I think I could save money just buying discounted tickets at this point.
The Platinum Pass is starting to look expensive in comparison to Six Flag's Gold Pass equivalent, which is $67 if purchased at Great America (and as low as $55 if purchased at America). You not only get free access and parking to all Six Flags parks, but you get free tickets for friends and $300 in coupons. I'm definitely getting one of those for the first time.
It looks like Cedar Fair has a very different strategy. I think the Platinum Pass is slowly becoming something more for hardcore enthusiasts and locals.
They do have the payment plans to help diffuse the cost. I imagine at least with large families that could be a reasonable way to pay.
The law of supply & demand. CF keeps reporting increased attendance ( "Our continued focus on providing our guests with the 'Best Day of Summer' experience each and every time they visit our parks has led to increases in attendance . . ."), so either supply has to increase (someone builds more parks), or prices will.
So far, no one has built Six Flags Toledo.
This Isn't A Hospital--It's An Insane Asylum!
It's September. Will the price of parking increase to $18 or $20 dollars?
It's tradition to raise the parking fee this time of year.
