What IS a fat person to do?

Dennis, your point is well taken. However, one point here is that many of the people who fit in the past no longer fit MF. Losing weight is an admirable goal, but it's pretty obvious that those Swiss clowns have gone overboard as a result of an incident at 6 Flags New England involving a person of unusual dimensions -- 5-2, 230 pounds.

Just outta curiosity, has anyone on this site actually seen Intamin's recommendation/directive that Cedar Point is following, all the while stating that it MUST do so to conform with state law?

I don't suppose that Cedar Point, as a private business, would produce this document. HOWEVER, if the Ohio Revised Code requires a ride operator to conform with a manufacturer's directive/recommendation, then surely there must be a paper trail somewhere within the bowels of the state of Ohio's bureaucracy.

It would seem that something would be on file with the Ohio Department of Agriculture, which regulates amusement rides. If it's on file, it's a matter of public record under state law.

I'm not suggesting that Cedar Point has miscontrued the contents of the Intamin directive. However, I think it would be interesting to see what it actually says, in the words of those Swiss geniuses.

I think that a valid question. We all know Cedar Point tends to lean on the cautious side of things, and I wouldn’t be surprised if they took that extra little step in the name of "safety", or in this case ridiculousness ;)

It would be interesting to see where the slack rule (which is causing the most problems) originated from. People on here and Cbuzz have said Xcelerator already had such a rule, so was that Cedar Fair or Intamin? People are also reporting that the S:ROS’s are not requiring a inch of slack, albeit their restraints are modified., One inch is such an ambiguous number and defiantly not precise engineering.

Also, Since the thing was engineered by those "Swiss clowns" (I like that one ), shouldn’t be something like 2 centimeters instead of these medieval measurements ;)

As for the seat belts themselfs, why even before this year were people reporting that Intamin rides in other parks have longer belts? It would be interesting to hear the answers to all this.

Every little bit they take away, the more and more people get turned away. It starts effecting a larger number of people as they move down the "norm,"as more people are closer to that. If women who wear a size 14 are having problems, which is not particularly large my any means, they are damn near insisting that you have to be in perfect shape to ride.

If the PR department says it's a manufacturer mandate, and state law says you have to follow it, then that's what it is. They aren't doing it to piss you off.

Thanks, Jeff! That is exactly what I was going to say. Everyone wants to blame someone when the ONLY fact here is SAFTY! It's Cedar Point's fault that they have to follow manufacture's guidelines. It's Ohio's fault for having a state law. Hey, did you also know that it's the chinese peoples' fault that the Magnum is sinking?????
That was not funny. I am "chinese" on Tuesdays and am offended by that remark.

Wow! I am Swiss on Mondays!
Bottom line is people need to lose some weight if they want to ride. Safety is #1 and Cedar Point has not had any deaths and I am sure wants to keep it that way. It is ironic that the park makes the money it does by selling almost all high fat/calorie food. Of course they use this $$$ to build the multi mil dollar rides. It's like they are telling its guests, "Sure eat our fast food, but sorry your not allowed to ride some of the rides your $$$ helped us build". Still the utimate irony is your much more likely to die sooner than later eating these types of fast foods then you would ever on a roller coaster. What is a person to do? But why blame Cedar Point. They are just part of the image obsessed American culture we all thrive on.

Yes, but you forget that the "bad" food that Cedar Point sells is offset by the fact that you have to walk a mile and a half to get from the front gate to Mean Streak, and if it's a full queue for Millennium Force, you get to pace off another mile right there. :)

So I guess this means that no one has found out what the directive actually says? We only know what CP says the directive says!!!!

Ever heard of the accidents in 1990? A dude jumped out of the ferris wheel and died and some other chick attempted suicide on the log flume. This is not a negative comment towards you, its just a statement. I don't wanta sound like an ass but thats the truth.

That is not true. PERIOD.

It's obvious that he's 14 going on 15.

In May, 1990, a teenage couple visited the park, where the girlfriend broke up with the boyfriend. The boyfriend was distraught. He decided to ride the Giant Wheel. While at the top, it seems his loss got the best of him, as he unstrapped his seat belt, opened the door, and jumped to his unfortunate demise. This incident occurred at 12 noon.

Meanwhile, it looks like 1990 must have been a tense year in northern Ohio, as White Water Landing is the site of a story similar to the one that you've not yet heard. Gee, this narrative is getting complicated! Anyway, on with the story. It seems that a girl broke up with her boyfriend during the spring while at the park. In this case, the girl was distraught. She attempted to commit suicide by jumping out of her boat while at the top of White Water Landing. The girl survived, although I imagine that she wasn't feeling all that good!

That is directly from Tour the Point website. I know all of you probally think i'm a dumb ass but that is my information, if you don't believe it fine, don't. But this is the information i have got and what i will believe. If you still have second thoughts on the info i know go to this website-http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/jeffharp/PointEntry.htm then go to the links called Frointeirtown for WWL and for GW go to Twister Midway. *** Edited 6/10/2004 3:57:45 PM UTC by sieve72***

If it's on the Internet, then it must be true!
Oh, C'mon Brian! Everything on the net is true, everyone knows that!

sieve72: You might be able to find the truth if you actually went to an "offical" website, but I'll have to admit, even if it was on cedarpoint.com, I still wouldn't believe it.

Melinda sure is a lucky girl! *** Edited 6/10/2004 5:27:48 PM UTC by CurrentlyDownDueToFillInTheBlank***

Let's go straight to the Merry-Go-Round!

OK, I can't find it on CP.com, SO JUST DROP IT. I'll never be able to prove it to you unless i had a video tape of it so just lay off my back and stop trying to defend your position. I have mine, you have yours. And yes, Melinda is VERY lucky.

SO JUST DROP IT

You shouldn't yell at your elders. You will grow less gullable as the years pass, my friend.
