What do I bring? Helpful tips?

Hey everyone---I'm so lost!  I'm coming to work on May 14th, and I really have no clue what to bring with me.  I don't wnat to have too much stuff, but I don't want to leave anything behind.  I was hoping to live in Bayside Apartments, but from other people's messages, it looks like they're filling up quickly.  So...what else might I need to take with me?  TV?  microwave?  dish detergent?  dishes?  Is it like living at school?  Or something totally different?

Also, what's with the rec center?  Is it nice?  What's in it?

So, for all of you who have been there and done that...fill me in!  Thanks a bunch.  See y'all soon! ;) ;)

I think the key thing is to pack light. You really won't have a whole lot of room to store anything extra. I basically brought clothes, an alarm clock, shower stuff (shower shoes!!!), camera, film, etc. A fan isn't a bad idea either. Make sure you bring clothes for cooler weather as it can get real chilly (especially at night) during May and at the end of August. A small TV would probably be nice, but not necessary. I'd just go with paper plates and stuff in the event you decide to cook (I never did). You'll probably eat a lot of times in the caf or stockade in the park or at the rec center they have some food too. It is very hard getting adjusted to not being online all the time, not seeing the TV very often, etc, but you get used to it. Honestly, I was usually tired enough after working that I didn't care about those things and just went to sleep. :) Good luck!

Make sure you bring sheets also because the ones they give you are awful and they fall off very easy.
And even your own sheets can come off pretty easy, but a matress pad helps that a whole lot.

Okay---I'm thinking that I'm going to have a rough time packing b/c I can't pack light! haha...

Is there internet connection at all? College spoiled me....and it's going to be so weird without computer usage!

Oh yeah....what about beach stuff? I'm thinking I'll take a beach bag with my things in it, too.

I was wondering about those sheets....I was planning on taking my own, as well..... They are twin size, right?

Is there anywhere to rollerblade? I'd like to bring mine...and keep them in my car or something so they don't take up too much room. (and cars---do we have places to park??)

Paper plates and stuff is a good idea...I might take some cups along though....

What about drawer and closet space? Do we even have closets?

Hope these answers will help you:
Internet connection: good luck getting an outside line unless you intend on trying to get on your computer at like 3am.They had (have?) these pathetic computers from the late 70's early 80's in Cedars and the Commons recreation center you can use, but it costs $$ and their connection wasn't the fastest either.
Beach stuff-good idea
Sheets-yes twin sheets (in commons dorms anyway)
Rollerblading-I imagine you could pretty much rollerblade anywhere you wanted to-I would suggest the employee parking lot (which answers another one of your ?s about parking) The employees at Commons and Bayside have lots to park in. If you're lucky you can get close to commons or if not you can park across the street in the "main" parking lot. Bayside has very limited amounts of parking in front of the building, but for the most part you end up parking back at the main parking lot. The .
employees at Cedars park on their own lot
The paper plates and cups good idea
As far as drawers and closet space. In the Commons dorms they have 3 lockers and 1 dresser. If I recall correctly Bayside and Commons has 1 dresser p/employee? Regardless of where you're staying that is why they are telling you to pack light because you don't have alot of room for alot of stuff.

Have a great time!! :)
I know I did!!!

Yea, there is plenty of parking although with VertiGo being "parked" in the EVC lot, there will be less leftover space midsummer... :)

The EVC lot is the large parking lot where employees park along the causeway. There is a pedestrian bridge that leads from the Commons apartments/dorms over to the EVC lot right before the second light on the causeway. Take a look - it's hard to miss Vertigo sitting in the corner! :)

Oh I see now I didn't know what that was called. So EVC is like the Main Employee Lot? Do employees have certain stickers on their cars to park in general cp parking lots?

Yes, they do. In the beginning of the season, employees can park wherever they wish pretty much, be it by Space Spiral in the main lot, back by Gemini, or the Soak City lot. However, during July and August, employees are asked not to park in the Soak City or Gemini lots and everyone is supposed to park either by space spiral or over on the bay side of the main lot. Then, the biggest kicker is parking bans on Saturdays in July and August. Let me tell you - that bus ride to/from work is not very pleasurable! :)
