Water or not??

There is alot of water around CP right, there on lake Erie, this is something not alot of other parks have. So why don't they use it to their advantage. I say they build a coaster that takes you into Lake Erie and back out. You go into a tunnel under the water and back out. Build a dam that keeps the water at a constant level and build your coaster in it. I have heard this can be done. Also this would be a coaster no other park that I know could even claim to come close to.

There are two reasons why I don't think they'll do this sort of thing:

1) CP doesn't own the any of Lake Erie or Sandusky Bay

2) There are just too many factors with building in the lake (weather, pollutants, tides, maintenance, etc) to make it worthwhile.

Am I the only one who remembers what the lake did to the beach walk two winters ago?

It sounds like a novel idea, but can you imagine the Army Corps of Engineers approving anything like that?

Someone many moons ago at CP told me that they would or could not ever safely build a coaster in or near lake erie..theres too many factors such as rising water levels, weather effects, pollution, etc that would be just too dangerous to safely overcome..CP is a god when it comes to thrill rides but its nothing when it comes to ole MOTHER NATURE..I was told this on my winter visit last season and this season..

Mother nature would never cooperate with that scenario. There's plenty of spots to build a coaster without building one on a lake. I agree with Jeffrey Spartan.
I heard that roller coasters built too near the water tend to sink, and then they have to be sold.

LOL yes I have heard that two. Hmmmm, wonder where? Maybe in the next 50 or less years we will have technology cheap enough for them to do something like that. But don't count on it very soon. I do get what your saying and I can see how it can be done. The biggest problem is it's just not practical to build right now. It's like building a 300 thrill ride 30 years ago. We just where not ready for it yet.

You probably don't remember it happening, because you were, what, 6? :)

If it was 2 winters ago from when Jeff made that post, that means it was 9 years ago, now! :-O

Wow, am I blind that I didn't realize this post was from 2000? LOL.

Although I *wasn't* 6 in '98, I'm clueless -- what DID happen to the beach walk "two winters ago"?

(Trying to remember Winter 98... only remembering being in high school lol...)

Winter 98... that was Nagano, right?

Oh wow. I never realized this was from 2000 either. lol.

I love the picture!

haha it took me about two minutes i had nothing to do

Iron Dragon, anyone?

Anything can be done, you just need $$$ and a permit, that cost $$$. I recall pix of the Water Tobaggan in Lake Erie and I think there used to be another old ride out in the lake. A cool water ride does not have to out in Lake Erie, the bay side is underused for rides, more easily dredeged and offers great potential. How about a ride out over (under or through) the bay?

if i get what you mean iron dragon is over a pond not a lake with waves and unexpected weather changes
