Water bottles.

What's with the "no water bottles allowed in line" rule that we experienced this past week in the queue for Magnum? My hubby and a few other people got yelled at by employees because they were drinking their water while standing in line. The employee was yelling like a maniac and made sure everyone threw out their water bottles. A few guests were angry since they paid a lot for the water they just opened and had to throw out. They should take out the pop/water machines in the queue if we're not allowed to drink.

Hmmm.. That's odd. I went last week, and I had gotten a pop and entered the line on Magnum, the employee standing at the ride entrance told me to finish it and throw it away at the trash can at the top of the stairs before I entered the station.
Yeah, that is very odd because I can always bring a drink into the queue and not be yelled at. I know some people bring food, though I never have and I don't really know if that's allowed. I know that they tell you to throw it before going into the station, but not just standing in the queue.

Smoking Marijuana isn't a bad thing or even a good one, like everything else, its what you make of it.

That's werid. I was even eating nachos and drinking water in the station for TTD. Of course it was broken down but it opened up right after I finished my oh so delicious nachos :)

The rule is/was? that they usually can't go past turnstiles with food. They're allowed to eat all they want in line, it just has to go into the trash at the turnstiles.
Well we were waiting for 4hrs because it broke down, opened, broke down, rained, broke down, finally rode it. So my mom went to get nachos for us and handed them to one of the employees and he gave them to us. So they probably made an exception for us.:)
I hope you got that employees name. Unless things have changed that much since I've been up there last you have every right to drink in line. I'd go so far as to say drinking water in line should be encouraged, as when it's hot enough and you're out there baking for 45 minutes or so, you need to keep hydrated.

bholcolmb, I think you've got it right. Once you're at the turnstile/entrance to station, you have to part with food and drinks.

Yeah, you can have food and drinks in line until you enter the station. If that ever happens again, either get their name or act like you cannot hear them.
Some people are very good at this.

Magnum still rocks.

Coming from another thread, I don't believe I would defend this employee. I would have told them to get their supervisor or call security. Then, someone probably would have called them out. I would still call guest relations and let them know about the incident and date, even if you do not know any names.
Yes, when I went on the 18th I got yelled at for bringing my free ice water into line at Magnum.I didn't raise much of an issue since it was walk on anyways and I could just go and get another free glass.
The 18th is the same day I was there and got yelled at. Maybe the employee was in an extra bad mood.

I work Magnum and I am pretty sure no one yelled at you bringing a bottle or cup of water in the line. People are allowed to bring plastic bottle and cups in line as long as they dispose of their drink at the trash can on the platform. I always advise people of this while they are entering the line especially if the line is platform only.
But, did you work the Magnum on the day in question? If not, there's no way any of us can tell unless we were there.

This is answering the people in the other thread Walt linked to here.
Magnum XL-200-- it is not a difference of opinion. You ARE allowed to bring food/drink into line. Its a black and white rule. You can't take it into the station, but that's why there are trash cans in line.
I would ask to speak to a supervisor next time.
If the ops are putting this much effort into keeping food/drink out of the line, why can't they do the same with people smoking in line? I'll admit I'm a smoker, but unless I'm doing the smoking, I don't want to smell it. Not to mention that since it says no smoking in line, I DON'T SMOKE IN LINE. Is it really that hard to go a little while without smoking? I seem to have no problem, but apparently noone else does.

Anyway, back to the food and drink deal. For most rides, (I think all, but I'm not sure on TTD) you are allowed to bring stuff in line, as long as it gets pitched before the station.

I just thought of a question for Tim Brown, was Magnum a walk-on when you encountered that op? It could be that due to there being no line, that they didn't have anyone posted at the top of the stairs and that's why she made you get rid of it. Anyway, just a thought.

When I went there on the 28th of July, a girl brought a giant Stuffed animal on MF! The op put the Stuffed toy in the seat next to her and straped it in and everything. Just thought you should know.

I was at CP yesterday, August 24th, and experienced the same thing. I thought it was weird and my buddy was upset that they made him throw out his bottle of pepsi, and the machines in line were still on.

Someone behind us asked why there was a change in policy. The answer given was something along the lines of, "we are short staffed since so many people went back to school. In order to have maximum performace from the staff that is left, we cannot be worried about instructing people about drinks ob the platform, or after they enter the train. Therefore, we ask that all drinks and food are not allowed in the cues." This answer made sense to me, especially since the ride was a walkon all day anyway.

It's one thing if Magnum is walk on. But, if there is a line, theres gonna be some problems with that.

I find it odd that they made you throw it away at the entrance. I know on Wicked Twister it was at the freeway merge point and most queues have trash cans near the turnstiles to discard it. Perhaps you ran into an employee having a bad day or something...
