Was Maverick The Right Choice?

"None of which can be felt on a woodie?" What the hell are you even talking about? I'm assuming the only park you've ever been to is Cedar Point?

Clearly written by someone who hasn't been on The Voyage, Lightning Racer, Renegade, etc.

Someone strap that guy (adidas) to The Voyage for a few hours and see what he thinks after that...

But your last point about attendance is probably the dimmest comment of all. If you don't understand what had impacted attendance at CP, it is not worth explaining.

I'd like to know your view of what has impacted attendance at CP. What should our attendance expectations be? Flat? Are the new coasters put in just to "maintain" attendance?

Coasters are suppose to boom the attendance, duh!

I have not ridden Maverick but it looks like a lot of fun. The only thing I will say is that they replaced a ride that I could enjoy with my son with a ride that I cannot enjoy with my son. To me that doesn't really scream "family" to me.

This year they put in a nice kids area that my son can pretty much enjoy on his own while I watch. That doesn't really scream family to me either.

"You can dream, create, design and build the most wonderful place in the world...but it requires people to make the dreams a reality."

-Walt Disney

Interesting point. There does seem to be a good bit of obfuscation between the terms "kids" and "family", and although there is some area of overlap they are hardly the same thing.

That being said, four of the six rides at Planet Snoopy can be ridden by adults as well as children: submarine, train, cars, and miniature tea cups. They're not necessarily the most comfortable to a person with full-size dimensions, and certainly not the most exciting. But they can be ridden.

One might also note that the internet started to become huge right around year 2000.

All this is said to prove the point that even the coasters that are looked upon as the pinnacles of design had their share of problems early on.

WTF are you talking about? TTD had its problems for 2 years, but now runs great. It had no breakdowns yesterday when I was there, and since 2005, I haven't seen a major breakdown. (And I go a lot)

Wicked Twister has had no problems either. It runs great and is a fun ride.

Now, Maverick had the roll problem and that was pretty much it. It did have some bugs last year but nothing that kept it down for more than a day. This year its only been down a few times. It didn't break at all yesterday and was very fun. It's problems this year are only caused by it being early in the season. All the rides, in the begining of the season has warm up problems. By now they should be fixed and they are.

Intamin has some of the greatest rides out there. They have different layouts and better rides. B&M have just fun coasters but not really any that come to mind aas great like Intamins. B&M's have similar/boring layouts too.

Intamin was the best choice and their rides are running great now.

Let's Get Weird.

^You must have missed last Sunday then, TTD was down from about 11:00-1:30.

TTD still has its problems, its just that red coaster in the back of the park making it look better now...

Just because it ran good the day you went does not mean it runs great all the time. I was talking about not just major breakdowns but its overhaul running time.

Let’s see Top Thrill Dragster for a 25 million dollar coaster has only passed 1 million riders once and that was of course last year. Maverick did not pass the million riders mark its first year.

So B&Ms and has similar/boring layouts?

I'm not sure what language that is, but let me answer what I think you're saying;

Yes.

Promoter of fog.

^Not all of them do, just the ones where companies order like this:
-Make me another B:TR, no litterally (SF)
-Make me another ride similar to Raptor (CF)
-Make me a ride like Kumba (pretty much everyone)

There are plenty of unique B&Ms out there, look at the IoA ones, Montu/Alpengeist (similar but still different,) Raging Bull, etc.

I definitely feel that Maverick was the right choice. You have no other park with a ride of its kind. We really needed this kind of ride to boost up frontier town because there is pretty much nothing back there except for mean streak. So, it is definitely the right choice.

ask me for my facebook.

Some people seem to think that Wicked Twister always had a smooth opperation but 2005 was a rough year for that ride. It was down for a month from the end of June till the end of July. Then near the end of the season it blew a transformer and that was supposed to be the end of it for that season. However, Dragster decieded to take a crap so they used that transformer until they had the pieces to fix Dragster so Wicked Twister opened up again. Intamin rides have a lot of down time with their newer rides. Still love Maverick though.

I think Intamin was a great choice. Sure TTD and Maverick have their downtime. But those rides incorporate a lot of technology to keep them running. Whereas your Magnums and your Millies rely simply on something to get the train to the top of the hill, TTD and Maverick utilize extremely complex launching mechanisms. And even with that, from what I've seen TTD is running extremely well this season and I'm sure Maverick is only going to get better with time. If these were B&M coasters.. I just picture a park full of trim brakes... *shudder*

I would say yes. It was the unanimously the best new ride of last year, including in the Mitch Hawker poll. Actually, Maverick was rated #10 in the world, ahead of other amazing rides. Maverick beat both Busch DMs and inverts, every floorless, and every other invert except Nemesis and Katun. I consider the Mitch Hawker poll to be the best, and grabbing the 10 spot speaks greatly of Maverick.

Rides are not perfect, and you can not expect them to be. So many factors go into the ride's operation, that it is impossible for them to be perfect all the time.

Also, people around here(Mid-Mich) randomly come up to me when I wear my Maverick sweatshirt and give me high fives saying." Maverick! That ride is awesome" or something along those lines. I live a good 3-4 hours away, and people around here are hyped on Maverick. Sure the heartline roll and the mist being gone have been some minor hiccups, but there have been no disasterous problems yet(knock on wood).

I agree with the whole B&M being generally un-unique(with the exception of Busch inverts). Personaly, I feel Intamin's are better. Most of the world class rides are Intamin(S:ROS, Expedition GeForce, MF, Goliath @ Walabi World, Maverick). Sure, B&M has great rides, but I just feel that Intamin pushes the envelope just enough, which sometimes leads to bugs in the system.

It could be worse, we could have an X on our hands......

Trim brakes are not dependent on the manufacturer. There are plenty of B&Ms and Intamins with and without trim brakes. In fact, there are a lot of Beemers with trims that are not used where as trims on Intamins are always used due to their "permanent magnet-ness".
