Virus Impact on CP

People are delusional if they believe that any kind of "normal" is possible without advances in treatment and a vaccine. Infection rates will trend back up... then what?

I agree that will be no normal until treatment or vaccination. The problem that I have with the vaccine will be that very few people will actually get it. Only a high 30s percent get the flu shot evey year. And that has been around for years. New vaccines do not do well in this society. And paranoia drops that number like that. Hell, even my own mother sent me a link where the man in the video talks about how the vaccine will have 'the mark of the beast' in it. Some kind of chip. The things some people believe just blows my mind.

I won't get a vaccine if one becomes available. I'm not getting myself injected with that stuff. I'm not an anti-vaxxer, just certain ones. I still think kids should get their normal vaccinations. I have never gotten a flu shot and don't think I ever had the flu. The flu shot barely even works, sometimes it's less than 50% effective. And if this virus mutates, any vaccine they develop would be rendered useless. I think finding a treatment would be a far more effective option along with testing and isolating those who have been infected.

That just proves my point. A small percentage of the population will be willing but a lot will not. I used to get the flu every year without fail. I've been getting the flu shot every year for 15 years and haven't had the flu since. I'm not saying I'll be willing to get this vaccine right off the bat. But once it's been around, I'd prefer it to being intubated or worse, death.

That's why it was called Twin Pine Mall in the beginning.

Yeah, I know. I noticed that in the movie the first time I saw it! I thought it was pretty clever. :-)

"Old Man Peabody used to own all this! He had this crazy idea about breeding pine trees..."

There has never been an effective vaccine developed for a coronavirus, never, ever. Why would this one be different?

I will not be getting the vaccine when it eventually comes out. I'm not an anti-vaxxer either, and I always get a flu shot, although I am starting to rethink that one too.

My daughter who is 12 got her gardisel vaccine that they give kids now last november. She has had inflammation and severe shoulder pain from it now for 7 months. She's been to countless doctors, orthopedics, and physical therapy to the tune of many thousands of dollars out of pocket for me... all for a vaccination. The money isn't even the issue, it's the fact she's in constant shoulder pain. It's really unfortunate.

Point of the story, I am choosing vaccines carefully going forward, and no way I'm getting the covid vaccine. I suspect I'm not alone.

You're selfish. Vaccination isn't about you, it's about preventing others from getting sick. You don't engage in critical thinking, and I'm done with you here.

I may be in the minority here, but, I'm going to wait and see what the vaccine does to the majority of people before I go all rushing up to get it. Aside from the being a guinea pig, it's a general rule I have for everything consumable.

One thing to remember is that you will only get access to the first rounds of a hypothetical vaccine if (assuming you are American) the US develops it first. If another country develops the vaccines, it will be manufactured and given to their citizen first.

^I wouldn't be so sure about that. Capitalism reigns supreme. If they can squeeze more from Americans' private insurance than they can from others, they will follow that cash. What you should've said was, "assuming you're an insured American."

If a vaccine is actually in the wild in 12-18 months many corners will have been cut. The normal process is 15-25ish years. It is reasonable to take a critical look at it and make a personal judgement based on situation at that time. Unlike some part of that decision will be based on my values as a responsible citizen of society.

There are more dimensions to it than that. The slow movement against something like Ebola was in large part because there was little financial incentive to pursue it. It's also hard to do widespread trials for something relatively difficult to build test groups for. That this virus spreads quickly and people are being morons about exposure risk should make effectiveness trials a little easier, and that's obviously huge financial incentive to get it right. Safety then becomes the biggest question, but risk varies depending on the approach. The messenger RNA strategy already has a lot of research behind it and appears low risk.

But the biggest thing to me is, you can't have willful ignorance both ways. Cool, you think you know better than experts because you can Google something to fit your meaningless ideology, so you go hang out with white supremacists at the capitol and demand your rights. Then the experts give you a solution, and you're like, no way man!

Why would I want the vaccine?! It's all a ploy by Bill Gates to plant mind controlling microships in us so they can start a one world government.

Yet, here you are. Again...

If he deleted people who didn't agree with him, I would have been gone long ago. It's no secret Jeff and I haven't been on the same page for a lot of things over the years.

Yet, I'm still here.. Since '99

Yeah, I deleted his comeback post. It read like a Trump rant where "everybody says so" and it's all fake news. Not worth it. People have been calling me names, predicting the death of this site, etc., for more than 20 years. We delete at most one or two non-spammer profiles a year, and usually for racism. But there comes a point where I'm not going to subsidize the communication of people who don't know the difference between willful ignorance and disagreement. Facebook and Twitter are welcome to play that game, but I won't.
