Valravn Goes Vertical--Construction Starts

Valravn is shaping up to be possibly the most beautiful coaster at Cedar Point.

I love how the surrounding area and theme are starting to take shape, can't wait to see the finished product.

But GateKeeper is the most beautiful coaster at Cedar Point.

I think there is something to be said about CF celebrating each parks uniqueness. I am liking seeing a new big ass coaster be built while the old buildings are still there, and left to co-mingle a few years as apposed to tearing it all down too fast. I will miss that quaint wooded lane with the Pan statue.

I always thought the statue was of Mercury (Hermes, if you'd rather.)

Valravn's funicular is about the same size as Millennium's funicular. They have pictures of it on the construction photos section on th website. Evacs will probably take about an hour if they use the funicular

Gotta love how CP cuts corners. When B&M has a carriage that holds ten people, you would think that any park would choose it to get guests down quicker.

There is a balance with efficiency. just because a train has more seats, doesn't mean that it will allow for more PPH. You have to factor in the fact that 10 row vehicles would require 6 more people per cycle to get rid of loose items, get seated, buckled, and cleared. The extra time that that takes could result in trains stacking... losing efficiency. I'm sure B&M/CP have factored all this in when deciding to go with the 8 row vehicles.

also, its also possible that with the new wider restraints the 8 row and 10 row trains are actually the same size. So maybe its as simple as they dont offer a 10 row configuration with those restraints.

I think he was referring to the funicular's alleged capacity of 4.

Which I don't think is a big deal. How often are they going to use the funicular anyway?

When did you become a hater? And what about the general condition of the park in the last five years smells of cutting corners? It's certainly not the hotel, the landscaping or the live entertainment.

Yep, darn CP is going cheap on the Funiculars it seems, could and should have ordered a much larger one. Personally I think they should have went smaller with the ride itself and instead ordered the worlds largest Funicular, they are that important ya know.

Looks like Valravn could be in testing stages. The camera is facing the WT midway

I'm wondering if part of this is related to hiding the lighting

The 8 across is because the new restraints are wider. How can anyone assume the size of the car on the inclined lift has anything to do with cutting corners? That is a really dumb assumption. The design of the ride area shows anything but corner cutting, it has a lot more attention to detail then during the Kinzel area.

For those who didn't catch it, Tony did do a live Periscope of Valravn running it's third full circuit test run! Such a great moment for any ride. Tony, if you're reading this, THANKS A BUNCH!!

Wow, that thing is fast!

Also (in case it hasn't been mentioned) there is some safety fencing/netting on parts of the ride for loose articles. There is one right on the Immelman it looks like from Jason's video on Twitter.

To me that looks like it is just dragging itself around, and it is going faster than it would with the two stops. I know it can be deceiving to watch it versus riding it, but if it goes any slower I feel like there is going to be minimal positive and negative G's in all axes -- qual es no bueno.

It is deceptive for sure. The big dive coasters don't look fast but they all feel fast. And having seen the other 2 in person, the test run we just saw on Valravn was the fastest I've ever seen. But when they start actually slowing the trains down at the mid course and using the holding drop, its speed will change. Though I still think this will be the fastest running dive coaster out there.
