According to The Ironworker, the union's official publication, "for some the evergreen tree symbolizes that the job went up without a loss of life, while for others it's a good luck charm for the future occupants"(1984:11). Other accounts attribute the tree as signifying simply that "we [ironworkers] did it" (Kodish, 1989:2).[/ironworkers]

That sounds like the same one I was reading. Just google "American Flag Steel Erection". Surprisingly you don't get a bunch of patriotic porn.
Goodbye MrScott
John
I searched for "flag tree steel structure"

I belive at some point along the line, T&T said that they decided not to use a Pine Tree this time because Christmas was so far off.

It was nice and unexpected to see a Canadian flag on the top piece of Dragster when it was topped off. I tried to find the picture in the construction gallery here, but there isn't one.
Halfway down on the right.
We'll miss you MrScott and Pete
The company that erected Dragster was Canadian, so it made sense that they'd use a Canadian flag as well.

Thank you Walt for the Update. These pictures look amazing. It's nice to see supports on the pond turnaround. That turn is going to be awesome to look at going over the pond and looking on from the bridge. I hope I have a new camera by next summer, I'd love to get some really cool pictures of Maverick.
Jeff, who erected Millennium? It's been scratching at my brain for the past few hours.

It's great now that the pond drop is now done. (Now looking at the pond cam) Their on the heartline roll now heading back for the first hill. Great how fast their finishing this coaster.

Actually, from your link it looks like Rankin Mfg was the erector and Bert White was the general contractor.
Tough to say. Their site says it's a list of jobs they have supplied structural steel and or erection services to the general contractor. Depends on what kind of work Bert White does. Some G.C.'s act more as a Construction Manager, others have their own work force. Could have been either way.

I thought at that time Monty Jasper was in charge of the construction of Millennium Force? Wouldn't he be a General Contractor for Millennium Force? I know he does something else now, but what was his job?
He was Head of Maintenance and Construction for Cedar Point. I believe he's got the same title, it just over all of Cedar Fair now.

John
Cedar Fair employees don't build the rides, contractors do. Monty Jasper may run the project, but he's not directing guys with cranes.

I assume it has to do with the power line they're bringing back there to power Mav.
