Steve, I agree with you about that. Come on! just look at all of us scrutinizing every nut, bolt, and ride part that shows up at CP. Half of us aren't even near Ohio.
But as for CP putting money back into the park, I like a place that updates every year. This means every year you go, there is always something new!

CP will continue investing in the park. Dick Kinzel even mentioned in one of the conference calls that the Paramount purchase will have no effect on the capital plan for CP. He also mentioned that they have a great 4 year capital plan in place.
So look for more great new things at CP over the next few years, though I bet they may not all be rides.
I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.
I can't see Cedar Point to take a break after 2007, what I'm afraid of is if this coaster is a huge monster coaster I hope other parks can still compete with them. When there is competition you can always expect bigger and newer things and have parks out do each other and I just hope Cedar Point still build great coasters if none of the parks compete with them after 07.

I remember that, what happen to it? Also, does anyone remember the Snake River Falls commercials when I think Cedar Point was kind of fooling us saying something big is coming when Snake River Falls was being built, and in the commercials they had a video of waterfalls in the background I think it was from Niagara Falls. Anyone remember those commercials?

Are you kidding Competion for CP? as far as I'm concerened, CP has ZERO equal. Some parks my match sizeof land, but not how well it's putogether or how well it's run, or even how much they have packed in.

In my opinion CP also has no competetion with other parks. The average person goes to one park a year and the same park every year. This park is either the park that they live the closest to or Disneyworld.
The real competetion that CP has is the average persons alternate activities. They have to compete with Video games, TV, and other forms of entertainment that can be much cheaper than a day at the park.
I agree that CP has no equal when it comes to Amusement Parks. They lead the way in the industry in most areas. Things like atmosphere and efficiency are high at CP.
When you put them in the industry as a whole CP can't compare with a property like Disneyworld. They dominate the world with the use of movies, toys, and there TV networks.
CP dominates the Tri-State area mainly. Just my opinion take it for what it is.
278 coasters and still counting!
I wouldn't be surprised to see more resort growth at Cedar Point. It is due. Whether they go forward with expansion of Breakers Express, rehabilitation of the last remaining original areas of Breakers, purchase another local property, etc I think that is an area where potential impact to the bottom line still remains high.

I disagree when people say that CP has no competition. They most certainly do. Families go on vacation out of state and look for activites in different areas of the country. The more activities per area, the more likely they will attend that city. I know NUMEROUS families that have traveled from as far as CA to come to CP. They've done this multiple times too. So, CP is on a totally different level than say Geauga Lake. I'd even venture to guess that CP draws people in from more than just the "tri-state". Living in Ohio spoils us because its in our backyard. But, other people travel for extended weekends or even weeks at a time to visit the point. Why do you think they keep building resorts?
I would agree that CP is far superior to their competition, but I wouldn't say they have no competition.
I like there resorts, but if they get any more expensive I might have to start staying outside the park. I am coming in Aug. this year and it's over $220 to stay at the Breakers now. The last two years we were coming in Sept. for bonus weekends and it was alot cheaper, plus you got your admition tickets to get in with your stay at the Breakers, but I wanted to come back this year in Aug. when it was hot and they had everything open.
jwhoogs - I'm not sure when in August you are coming, but if it is early-mid August that easily explains the difference in prices. August is a busy time, they are going to charge top dollar. Bonus weekends in September are notoriously dead (just as Mr. Scott). They charge less to get people in the door.
Just look at Disney. If you go in late September, you can get some unbelievable rates. We're looking to go for a week (7 days) in late September of 2007. Staying at PO-FQ we can do it (with admission) for about 1600. If we wanted to do that trip during Christmas week (possibly the busiest week for any park anywhere) that same vacation will cost about 500 dollars more.

I think we will be surprise this year later the season. I think it because people would want to see the un built roller coaster one more time before and after the "big annoucement". Remember once the big annoucement hit the local news media's will be all over it. Also, people watch their local news and will get excited to see it. Espically people close to the park.
^Either that was just one large typo or it didn't make sense?

I do think CP will build 2 rides for next year. Huge coaster (obiously) and a decently sized flat.. Small enough for little kids and family to enjoy yet fun for us enthusiasts.
Favorite Coasters 1.MF 2. TTD 3. Raptor 4. Gemini 5. Magnum
Maverick perhaps? I wanna RIDE ON.
Give it up for the two new rides.
Why would they want to do that?
