Given our lack of coasting so far this year, we were determined to get a short trip in to Cedar Point. It was only our second visit this year. My wife and I have been dealing with the new house and other real life stuff, so we needed a break.
We got there at about 6pm, and arrived to a respectable parking lot. Given the fabulous weather, I expected no less.
We have kind of a routine. We park in the Soak City lot and do a lap heading to Frontier Town, around the trail and to the front of the park, then around the "boardwalk" midway, then back toward Magnum. The first observation was the great looking exterior to "Undertaker U.," the haunted attraction for Halloweekends. It looks like a big old barn instead of a former carousel pavilion. I wonder why they're starting so early.
We passed the Millennium Force queue where the line was about an hour, and also skipped Raptor which was about a half-hour. Our goal was Giant Wheel. It's a married people thing. We got in about ten minutes or so, and it was good. That thing is so much better off on the water.
Of course we stopped for fries.
From there we hit Troika. This was one of the two adult rides at Cedar Point I have never been on. I don't know why, that's just the way it happened. The other ride is Snake River Falls, and if I'm ever wearing the right clothes, I will get on it.
From Troika it was off to Magnum. The cool thing about Cedar Point these days is that even on a moderately busy day, most of the coasters have tolerable lines. Magnum's wait was barely 15 minutes, and that was even after they had to cart away some kid in the meat wagon, presumably out from heat exhaustion or excessive alcohol consumption.
Magnum was really delivering last night. Even with the trims slamming on tight, I can't believe how fast it was. Major ejector air on every hill. It was also relatively smooth, even in the pretzel, and there wasn't a lot of shifting around. A quick peak at the wheels as my train dispatched revealed that they looked almost completely new. I've never seen them replace wheels on a whole train (and can't really say that they did this time), but wow was it sailing. Good to see Magnum's better personality.
I have to give props to Magnum's crew. It's great to see a crew groove like this. Ready ready, clear, you're out of there. I watched them hit interval time after time. Train ahead clears second hill, train dispatches. Amazing what you can achieve with six people checking restraints instead of two (low blow to that other park).
Overall, this was the kind of trip I like to make as a season pass holder. When you can get in, enjoy yourself for a little while, and get out, it really feels like you have the park at your disposal. I credit the park's ever-increasing capacity and fabulous staff.

I have to agree Jeff what you said about the lines in relation to a busy park...I've noticed tolerable lines just about all season...The majority of the credit goes to the ride ops who have been doing a great job all season long making those lines move at a great pace...
Hope to see ya at the park again soon :)

Yeah, I talked to Tim this morning and he said you guys were there. With no shows in progress, I didn't think we'd see anyone in there so we kept on walking!

Jeff and Spartan are correct, CP has a great team of employees. The one glitch is stacking trains on Mantis while only two trains ran, resulting in over an hour wait. I never had to wait for Mantis, but it was a nice treat to hear forgotten music from 96.
BTW, is the Gay Pride Day sponsored by CP? Alot of Pride was displayed at CP yesterday, it was nice to see people being themselves without being prosecuted by rude people.

Glad to hear you got to ride home in the van Tim. Also glad I wore my Coasterbuzz shirt or I would've never ran into you guys. It was nice meeting all of you. You too Dan. Sorry I picked on you about the girlie drinks. ;)
Its ok Lori I am used to it. :) I don't Tim's day is complete if he doesn't get a chance to rip on me. He loves telling everyone that stupid TR I posted two years ago.

...and this one time on Magnum;) Hey Dan if we didn't like you we would really abuse you:) I am just damn glad you didn't have inventory so you could join us.
Now we have to wait for DBCahill to check in and give his full trip report.
Good to hear you were allowed to go home Tim.. We really didn't mean to twist your arm like that for a few more rounds.. hehehe
On a side note.. just got back from the park (went there Sunday.. came back today.. hehehe) and got to sit in the 10pm employee only *cough* preview show for Rock, Pop & Soul.. They really have come together since we saw them rehearsing the other day (14 hour practice days will do that I guess). HIGHLY recomended show.
Red Garter seems to have the hook-up (once again) for live shows...

Sorry Tim, you're going to have to wait a couple of days for a TR. I was still on the road on my way home last night even as you were typing your last post.
Of course, nobody wants to keep your work caught up for you while you're gone (and my assistant keeps getting paychecks why?) so I'll probably get the TR done this weekend.
Was great finally meeting you guys in person. Walt, sorry you had to bolt a bit early. We hit the Gemini a couple of times before going our separate ways. Tim, glad that we won't see you on Divorce Court anytime soon. And Jeff, no excuses. Completely unacceptable that you didn't stop in. As punishment, you're buying the first round next time!

I need a vacation to recuperate from my vacation.
Didn't want to leave (and sorry I missed Gemini! - were they running it backwards?), but had to wrap up work at home before retiring for the evening. Considering my freelance schedule lately, I'm fortunate to have been able to go at all! Anyway, it was great to finally catch up with you.

Gay Pride day is NOT sponsored by CP. I took the time to stop an employee who looked rather stressed. She proceeded to tell me 3 of her employees had gotten arrested for "inappropriate" behavior. The dark side of CP I guess. But remember, CP spelled backwards is PC.
