I agree with Dan Fielding about how it is dumb when people update their status for the silliest things. That is why I like My Space better than Face Book. Because with My Space on your homepage you can see if people updated their status. But it is only a few people and it's not sent as a notification or anything like that. Plus Face Book has this thing of telling me when other people added others to their friends lists. Why would I care? lol.
On the other hand, I do think that is a good idea if it was specifically things about the park. It would be helpful if you were at CP the same time as someone else. And you were at the back of the park and wondering what the lines were like on Millenium. If someone could update their status as "Lines up here are long." Or "It's a walk on. Get ur a** up here! :)" lol. That would be cool.
"You wanna, you gotta, you hafta hold on, Cedar Point...HOLD ON!"
First, Facebook is able to be customized as to not receive all those notifications, you need to learn how to use it.
Second, if you're going to speak to a specific person whom you know is in the park then text them directly. No one wants to hear you Twitter to someone specifically to "Get ur a** up here!"
The point in utilizing Twitter with a group of people is to give meaningful
information in a general form. Once you find out that someone else is in the park with you then speak to them directly. "Lines up here are long" is also a pointless thing to Twitter to a large group or even a small group who isn't in the park. "Weather is nice and lines are short so far on MF and Dragster". That would be something you'd want to post if you were in the park.

^ First off, "Get ur a** up here!" was a joke. I think that I have said this to you before....you need to lighten up. And about Facebook, it is my personal preference to not use it that often. I would rather not learn how to turn those notifications off. But thankyou for letting me know that you can do that.
Second, I would appreciate it if someone twittered if there were long lines up by MF or short lines. As long as when they left they changed it so I didn't go up there and it was different from what they had posted. Maybe you think that that is pointless, but I don't.
"You wanna, you gotta, you hafta hold on, Cedar Point...HOLD ON!"
Oh, and also I think you misunderstood me. I do not mean if me and a friend were at CP, for them to twitter, "Come up to MF." I meant if a few Pointbuzzers were at CP, and I wanted to ride Magnum...but I was at the fronte of the park and didn't know if it was worth it to walk all the way back there if the lines were really long, or to just stay up near the fronte until the lines shortened. It would be helpful if someone had already posted what the lines were like back there.
It would be rude for me to twitter to a friend of mine to do something. Because like you said, no one else would want to read that. If it was going to be that, you are right I should send them a text...not twitter it. But that is not what I meant anyway.
"You wanna, you gotta, you hafta hold on, Cedar Point...HOLD ON!"
And as I have stopped myself from saying before I believe you need a clue. I guess everyone's entitled to their opinions.
For the reasons you have just gave as an example I'd never have people I didn't know in my list. For as many useful notifications you'd get you'll receive 10 times more in garbage. As much as it pains me to admit it, I think I'll have to side with Jeff on this one. Use text messages, you can even mass text a group if you're that technologically advanced.

For me, it is just a nice way to consolidate seeing what alot of my friends are doing. I have a very few friends on Twitter that I allow their updates to be sent to my cell phone. If anyone begins updating every 5 minutes, they are quickly removed from my texting list...
Bryan, you overwhelmed my cell phone with about 7 "tweets" in a row yesterday... But I forgive you because it just seems you were trying to figure things out ;) (Have fun at Kennywood today!)

Paula from Holiday World uses Twitter pretty effectively. It's nice to get notices about rides going down (or coming up) on the fly..not to mention other park-related info.
Loopy, I believe that you are a very negative person. Almost all of your posts I have ever read on this site are rude. So from now on you can say whatever you would like and I am just going to ignore it. I bet you would probably never be that rude if you wern't hiding behind a computer.

See, I just don't care enough about what my friends are doing, let alone in real time. If I'm that interested, I'll ask them.

I understand your point Jeff. I could take it or leave it. For now, I'm still giving it a try. The updates from Paula at HW, and also from some of the digg guys are also a nice touch. I also use it to get updates from my favorite presidential candidate...

I really don't understand the Web 2.0 celebritard fascination that is fueled by and contributing to the use of Twitter. Like, how did nerd fame get to be such a big deal? There are some interesting people in those circles, but not interesting in the way that I care about what they're doing at various points in the day.
It's not that I don't see the value in the technological concept, but it doesn't seem like a stand-alone service to me. More of a feature that goes with something else, like status updates with Facebook.

I share alot of your views on this Jeff. I don't see the "digg guys" as celebrities. I simply appreciate the digg site, and their twitters often highlight links that they have found useful or interesting. Unfortunately they do inject alot of their "I just got off a plane", "I just ate ice cream" nonsense, and for that reason, I don't subscribe to them... I just visit it every once and awhile.
I subscribe to the PointBuzz twitter, but that also doesn't make you or Walt celebrities. I simply appreciate the information that is made available through the service, and choose to subscribe to it.
There is just a balance to be achieved. Unfortunately it gets overused. MySpace is much of the same way. It used to be that it was a good place to meet up with people you hadn't spoke to in a long time, and you could find out what they were up to, etc... I reconnected with some long lost friends that way. But then the kids learned how to use HTML and crowd their site with horribly skewed animated gifs that make me want to vomit, and the folks that run the site began injecting the most useless features, and now it is a horrible pile of steaming....broccoli.
Sadly Facebook is beginning to go the same way... ::goes to deny another Zombie Attack request::
Alot of these social networking sites had the right idea from the start... a simple way to connect to those who you may not have had the chance to previously. Unfortunately it seems the trend is for them to go downhill fast once the GP gets ahold of them. Twitter is still relatively clean. We will see how long that lasts.

The PointBuzz Twitter would probably be more interesting if I could stay in Ohio long enough to actually visit Cedar Point. :)
Yeah, I hear that. I'm gonna log 7,000 miles just this week! I've been to CP only twice this year.

I agree with you 100% on that. A lot of people just use My Space because they are attention whores. They put up pictures and then post bulletins that say "Leave me comments!". Or they change their "status" everytime they blink, with things like "Call me, I'm bored."
I use My Space for the reason it was made. To keep in touch with friends that have gone off to college, and family members that live far away. I have a 2 year old son, and my sister (who lives in SC) has a 3 year old daughter. My Space is a great way for us to see pictures of eachothers kids, without having to pay to mail them.
