I just aquired a park map from the early 70's, and wildcat was located where the dive show is today. Behind wildcat was a ride called "twister".
Does anyone remember or know what this ride was?
what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard.
Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it.
I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
Well, I'm not sure what it is, but in my 1966 map, it shows the Twister near the Front Skyride entrance.

I also have a 1963 postcard showing the Rotor in the aproximate location of where my 1966 map shows Twister.

Now the Rotor I show in the postcard was in opperation from 1961 to 1964. A new version of the Rotor opperated from 1967 to 1984. I don't know if the new Rotor was located in the same spot or not. The Pointbuzz timeline does not mention the Twister, but it seems at though it was located near the front end of the Sky Ride a few years before moving over by the Dive Show.
Sorry I couldn't be more help.

Also if you go to www.flatrides.com and check the ride index, you will see that there are a few different versions of the Twister depending on which ride manufacture built it.
Just a side note, Twister is also not mentioned in the history section of Cedar Point's website.

Speaking of the history section of the Cedar Point website... I wish they would bring back something like the old section. It was a lot more fun to read through with the pictures. (hint, hint... :) )

Looks like it may have been in the park at that time. From the looks of the map I have, the ride is tucked away near the beach enterance. Kind of out of the way by itself.
Its just odd that I have never heard about this ride at cp.

Crazy, when you say, "Looks like it may have been in the park at that time." Do you mean when that picture was taken? Because the scooter that the gentleman is riding in the first pic seems a lot newer than 1970. But maybe that's just me.

Crazy...I seriously doubt that was the Twister that was in the park at that time.
Jason...I'm pretty sure he was saying that the ride in that photo may have been from CP around '70, not that the picture was from 1970.

Ride on, MrScott!
No, I ment the type of ride. It looks like it was from the 70's.

That Chance Twister is an older ride. I know there is one located at Lakemont Park that I rode last year. Conneaut Lake Park has a scrapped one in their bone yard.
I just aquired an advertisment from 1968 that has a picture of people riding "Twister"
I would say with fair certainty that it is a Chance Twister. I'm going to the Indian's game tonight, but I'll try and get it scaned and posted in the next day or 2.

Well, actualy now that I've done a little more searching, I'm thinking that it may be an "Allan Herschell" Twister.

I remember riding the CP twister many times. It was by the beach, in the same area as the Aquatic Stadium.
Yes, it was a lot like a Tilt-A-Whirl. I don't know who made CP's ride, but I seem to remember that it wasn't electric, it was powered by a gas engine.
I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.
Interesting.
Thanks for all the great info.

Here's the scan's I promised.
The first one is the Twister at Cedar Point. The Scan is from an advertising suplement to local newspapers on a Sunday in May of 1968 promoting Cedar Point's Opening Day of Saturday May 25th.

The second one is an Allan Herschell advertisment from the July 17th, 1965 issue of Amusement Business.

I think at least one of the souvenir videos has footage of the Twister. I believe it was located were the Calypso was for many years. Like many rides at Cedar Point in the 1960s the ride was moved once or twice. I got to ride a Twister at our county fair in 1999 it seemed to be rather old but it was fun.
I rode the twister when i was very young. It was behind the original location of the wildcat which was where the Aquarium was. It was fun and it spun you till you got a headache. I also rode the ride at the Water Festival in Huron years later. It had a front and back seat on the cars. The cars were on a wheel and that moved on a track around in a circle. The floor slanted upward in the back. It made me sick every time I rode it but I rode it all the time.
