turnpike or route 2?

I like the turnpike. I don't know why but it seems faster.

Opening Day - May 8, 2004 :) TOMORROW!!!

Cedar Point, Absolutly Amazing!!

I take route 2 all the time.... I live in toledo, and going 7 miles south to get on the turnpike, and then 7 miles back up north to cross over Route 2 once you get off the turnpike near sandusky just doesnt make much sense to me... 14 extra miles?... ill take 2 (route 2 that is, lol)

Trips to CP thus far: none yet...but can't wait!

Rt. 2 is more scenic on the drive.....But the turnpike has a Jodi-Maronies Sausage Kindom at the plaza in Sandusky. This has become a point trip tradition. ShoneyS used to be a trad. also untill they tore it down...Sniff, Sniff

We have to vote for Route 2 as well.

We usually make it from Pontiac, MI. to the gates in about 2 - 2.5 hours depending on truck traffic on route 2. I agree with CyberDMans times from the 94/275 interchange; it's very possible to make it to the park from there without excessive speeding.

From Pontiac, MI., we take M-24S -> I-696W -> I275S -> I75S -> I280S -> Rt2E -> Rt6E. Going this Sunday morning ourselves, which always has been the best days for us to go. Hardly any traffic at all at 6am, and you can do 80 all the way to the Ohio border once you're on the interstates.

I've taken Rt. 2 for all of my first four trips to the Point from Toledo this year, but I think I may be going back to the Turnpike. As far as time goes, Rt. 2 is 5-10 minutes faster, but I find I just get way too frustrated on that two lane road. Yesterday when I went, I averaged 40 MPH from Oregon to the point where the road opens up to two lanes past the nuke plant. I was behind three trucks who were all riding each other's butts. The first in the line was only doing 40-45, and there was no way I could pass them all at once. I always feel like I'm going to die when I try to pass a semi on that road becuase my car doesn't have the greatest acceleration. To add to the frustration, there is now a point around the infamous Bono Curve where it is one lane for both directions due to construction.

And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun

As many others have said, i also go through route 2. The scenery is nice, and the drive isn't too bad. I come from the Lansing area and it doesn't take as long as you would think. Route 2 is a lot easier to take two, being the inexperienced driver (only a driver's permit) i am. But when i get my license i'll be driving down to Cedar Point once a month!

Smoking Marijuana isn't a bad thing or even a good one, like everything else, its what you make of it.

I take both from where I live. What I do is I take Route 8 North and then get off on the Turnpike. I take that unil I get to exit 57 in elyria which then takes me to route 2. I'm there within an hour and 15 minutes. The turnpike is nice, it's not quite as bumpy like route 2 is. I swear I felt like my car was shaking when I took it over route 2 this year.
Route 2 has always been faster for me even though I live right by the turnpike. Though it is only a two lane road, as long as you pass well you should be fine. But I recommend for the day, I don't have great night vision and it gets pretty dark on those narrow roads, having no street lamps makes it dangerous for me. The lights are a killer when you get into town, but you can bypass the busy intersections when it gets busy in the summer.

Route 2 gives me anywhere from fifteen to thirty minutes quicker than the Turnpike. Granted you pass the many trucks. (avoid speeding in Oregon and Woodville, ohio) They are very strict, Woodville will get you for going anything over the speed limit. But you won't go through it if they have Route 2 completely open without detours.

Life has it's ups and downs, might as well make it on a coaster!

Rt 2 all the way..wouldn't be a trip without seeing the Springfield Homer Simpson Nuclear plant (Davis Besse) :)

Also the plane cut in half for those that now the route... *** Edited 5/19/2004 3:07:24 AM UTC by Jeffrey Spartan***

Sparty On!

take 75 south to 280 and use rt.2. i live in toledo and it only takes about an hour.280 is under construction but moves about 35-40 mph. you will only be on 280 for about 3 miles if that(i go that way to work so i know), then get off at 250.
TURNPIKE! Go check out my trip report...I will never drive on Route 2 again. It's just wayyyy too dangerous.

COmming from PA, Rt 2 is a Freeway for me. I have no problems with it.

Not wanting to start another post, as this already has discussed both route 2 and speeding. Does anyone know if Sandusky area cops use Laser detection?

Ohio State Police and most local enforcement use LIDAR. Others use the X band radar system. Very few use Digital Ka.
Sandusky cops do use Radar and will write you up for doing the limit or over, they'll get you for riding the white line, no turn-signal, seatbelts, no lights at dusk, RTOR, etc.
CP Cops have radar units, but never seen them in use. Yeah, someone got written up for doing 45 in a 45, it's called a Driving Vehicle at Safe Speeds citation.

Interesting enough that PA is the only state that local and county police are not permitted to use Radar/Lidar.

Also, Police cannot use a Radar/Laser detector, but they can use a Radar/Laser speed gun.
Please correct me if I'm wrong, but this is what I remember and know from others who live in that area and some from the Ohio Law.

Haha. You worried about the effectiveness of that new $300 radar detector Adernaline?

TAKE IT FROM ME, Coming from Detroit, Rt. 2 is much faster. First of all, you can get ticketed on the turnpike if you arrive at the next toll to fast, it would be known you were speeding. On Rt. 2, it's pretty easy to haul ass but with caution. Another thing, you will save time taking Rt. 2 to the exit past Rt. 6. It's called Rt. 101. Turn left on the exit and it will turn in to Rt. 6. It just saves some of the slower roads and less turns. Trust me, try it, then thank me!

I want to ride a rollercaster NAKED!!

I've used both routes from Toledo and find the Pike to be a little quicker since their are more variables on Rt. 2 that can impede one's progress. From points north, I would agree that I-75 to I-280 to the turnpike is the best choice, provided there are no major delays on I-280 resulting from myriad construction issues.

However, I will say that Rt. 2 can be more entertaining at night, especially when Davis-Besse is glowing in the dark (yuck yuck!!!)

state troopers aren't that bad on rt.2 they let me go because i didn't register on the radar gun just told me since there was no evidence he would let me go this time but next time i was goin to jail. i think that he thought it was kinda funny cause he acted like i was nuts (on the long straight shot just before you get to davis besse) just nail it
How fast was not registering on radar? or where you scrambling.
