Turnpike Cars

I just got hired into area 1 & it looks like ill be working the turnpike cars! It's not really what I had in mind but oh wellll. Has anyone ever worked there? Is it fun?

Do we have to actually ride the cars?

I've worked Cadillac Cars before which is a car ride, and its kind of similar. You do jump the cars differently over at turnpikes, but you should have a good time! You also get to work Calypso!

I've worked Turnpike Cars, and the one thing I can really recommend is making sure the shoes you get have really good ankle support. It may not seem like a big deal, but walking up and down the slant of Calypso can make them uncomfortable in a cheap pair of shoes. You also run back and forth quite a bit at turnpikes itself.

So yeah, at that ride, invest in a good pair of shoes.

Thanks for letting me know! I was planning on getting a good pair anyway cause i hate sore feet. But did you enjoy working there?

Any position at cedar point I would recommend a good pair of shoes and if it looks like its going to rain...if theres the slightest doubt of rain...bring an extra pair of socks. You will thank me later for that suggestion.

Haha! Like bring an extra pair to work with me?

Of all the rides I've worked, and I've worked ALOT of them, it was my least favorite.

Yes! Put them in your backpack which you will keep in a bin for employees. Turnpike Cars is cake work! I like working Calypso, but since only one person operates it, you are the ride host and ride operator at the same time. It gets tiring after a while. Did you tell her that you wanted to work with kids?

Aw =/ Why

That's weird. I'm sure your crew will be fun, which you'll have the chance to talk with everybody during your shifts since Turnpikes really isn't a fast paced place to work. Very easy. You can always get cross trained at other locations. What ride(s) did you have in mind?

I actually really wanted the wicked twister or the raptor.

I wouldn't get discouraged so soon. Each ride does have its perks. And Some people get moved around as the summer goes on depending on staffing. As long as you have a good crew you will still have some fun. If you have not already join the Park Operations FaceBook page. Its where you can ask all your questions about Park Operations. Find and talk to other crew members etc... https://www.facebook.com/groups/455851091146572/

And then once you join the page you can put your placement on Point Placement which is optional but its also where you can find your crew page and figure out who is where. http://pointplacements.clanteam.com/index.html

Welcome to Cedar Point! And welcome to the best area in the park :) in my opinion!

Lol im not necessarily upset about it. I love the Ocean Motion (: Its not the best ride but I still enjoy it! I actually asked her about and she said said she places people according to their personality during the interview. Plus everyone keeps telling me its not the ride, its the crew so I guess we'll see what happens when we get there. Thats where we are placed so we're gonna have to make the best of it ya know?

I worked Turnpikes and Calypso in 2012!

Both rides are fun, even though they're not fast paced!

Calypso: That ride is a workout! Your legs will hate you working that ride. On hot days the whole ride itself turns into a giant taning bed. But you'll get use to it.

Turnpike Cars: Those are fun! Yes, you will have to drive the cars around the track to either take them to the gas pump or back to the station in the morning. It is a really slow paced ride, when you have to deal with guests driving slow around the track! But overall, Its a cool ride. You'll bond more with your crew.

Tips:

Sunscreen and Good shoes are a MUST HAVE!

There is a single rider name Charmaine! She LOVES Turnpike Cars! Every morning she will be the first person waiting in line before the ride opens, and she have to have either the purple or baby blue car! :)

Invest in Grip gloves! or you hands will hate you!

Have a good balance!

ALWAYS remember to close the transfer rail! Last season, one of our crew members forgot to close it and a guest crashed into the bushes.

Kids like to run across the track to cars that are parked across from the station! Be prepared to chase kids!

-Have Fun!

Thank you! This was really helpful! Does the ride open as soon as the park opens? And does it stay open a little later since it is towards the front of park?

Calypso opens at 10:00 am and closes when the park closes.

Turnpike Cars opens at 11:00 am and closes when the park closes.

Since both rides are located in a remote area of the park, people will stop showing up around 9:30ish when the park closes at 10pm. Also, both rides get it's riders from Blue Streak. When people exits Blue Streak, they run straight to Calypso, and from Calypso to Turnpike Cars.
