Funnily enough, the actress who played Dr. Melissa Reeves co-stars in the CBS show Still Standing, in which her character's name is Judy. :)
Anyway, 'bout that tunnel...
We'll miss you MrScott and Pete
Yeah....that...tunnel. Well it's going to be dark and, according to Jeff, GREAT!!111

Speaking of the tunnel, the last update we saw they were working on framing work of the tunnel? Is there any recent updates of Maverick? Pointbuzz hasn't shown any for a month now and I'm getting anxious.
There are photos here from only six days ago. It's the off-season. Daily and near-daily updates are a thing of the past.
I believe the construction diary has now been updated, thereby providing anxious people with the update they've been "long" waiting for...

On Maverick will we stop in the tunnel for a while?
I'm thinking you only slow down in the tunnel. If you look here (http://maverick.cedarpoint.com/latest/gallery/), check out the 3rd November 14, 2006 pic - the one with the cords hanging on the track for the tunnel boosters. Look on the right, before the boosters you can see some retractable brake fins and I don't see any room for kicker wheels...meaning you'll slow down from the brakes, then go right into the boosters.

There ARE kicker wheels before the tunnel as seen in the gaps in the track.

TTD 120 - I'm pretty sure those gaps are for the retractable brake fins or the stators - follow my link i gave in my first post. There's actually 2 good pics from 11/14 that show what i'm talking about.
I would think that they would want a way to stop the train before the launch if needed. I'd predict there will be a way to stop the trains in the tunnel, but I'd think it would only be for problems/ emergencies.
Thrills Around the Corner!
I'm just guessing here, but if there was an emergency or an e-stop, then the boosters would shut off, and the train would stop.
I'm also guessing that the blocking will not allow a train to go over the top of the lift hill until the train before it clears the booster tunnel.
I wonder if there will be an anti-rollback device in the tunnel - or part way through the tunnel. If there's not, then I think they could reverse the polarity of the boosters, and then the train would come backwards to rest where the brake fins are - and then it could probably be manually pushed into the boosters for another launch attempt. If any of that is true, then it would make sense to have kicker wheels there, but as of 11/14 it looks like brake fins are there. It wouldn't make much sense if there were kicker wheels in front of the magnetic brakes since they are a less-powerful braking device than magnets. Anyways - rambling on.

But the magnetic brakes cannot completely stop the train (especially on an incline) and they cannot propel a train either. Hence the need for kickers, to hold a train if necessary and advance it when the system is ready.
Goodbye MrScott

^ I agree 100%. I'm just saying that the 11/14 pic shows retractable brake fins, then strators (boosters), it begins the incline, and then more strators.
What we don't have a picture of is of what comes before the retractable brake fins.
It would make sense then, if the retractable brake fins stayed down - except in the case of a rollback. Before those brake fins, there could be kicker wheels, and before the kicker wheels there were stationary brake fins. Follow?
Edit for clarity.
This is how I'm now thinking it might go...
Curve, flatten out, stationary brakes, kicker wheels, retractable brakes, strators, begin incline, more strators, exit tunnel - go up hill, more strators, etc...
