They do not compete with SFMM because SFMM just plain sucks. I live in SoCal and would take KBF and less coasters just for the feel of the place. Btw, both KBF and CP are Kinzel resumes, you can even see a KBF award in the town hall at CP. I am so glad that Intamin has choosen CF to roll out their signature models, SFMM will never invest that sort of capital to bring a comprable coaster. Fwiw, I think CP is better than KBF and I will continue to use my season pass for both of them.

DELETED! What time does the water show start?
I think it's time you took your head out your pie hole, as you like to say, and face reality. It only took me 10 minutes to find these webpages on Cedar Point's website:
http://www.cedarpoint.com/public/news/story.cfm?id=121
http://www.cedarpoint.com/public/news/story.cfm?id=119
http://www.cedarpoint.com/public/news/story.cfm?id=118
http://www.cedarpoint.com/public/news/story.cfm?id=117
http://www.cedarpoint.com/public/news/story.cfm?id=115
http://www.cedarpoint.com/public/news/story.cfm?id=112
http://www.cedarpoint.com/public/news/funfacts.cfm
http://www.cedarpoint.com/public/inside_park/rides/thrill/rollercoasters.cfm
http://www.cedarpoint.com/public/inside_park/rides/RCrides.cfm?defimg=1
I didn't feel like spending any more time, but I'm sure I can find a lot more. Every single one of these pages refers to CP's 16 coasters as "unprecedented," "unheard of number," "more than anywhere else on the planet," and on and on. If Cedar Point doesn't think it's important, they sure do devote a whole lot of text to it. Personally, I would say that it is "plastered all over their website." Maybe not in big bold letters, but it is there. I'm surprised you haven't seen it.
Again, ask John Q. Public in Northeast Ohio if they know or care that CP has the most coasters. Go to SoCal and they'll give you even more blank stares.
Besides... SFMM claims to have the most coasters as well, though they tie at 16.
Try to be a bigger jackass than me in my house and you'll find your ass on the curb, son.

So if Cedar Point loses the title, does that make it any less of "what it is"? Personally if I had to choose whether Cedar Point could have the title of "Best Park" or "Most Coasters", I would choose the "Best Park".Worlds of Adventure has added a lot of coasters but where has that got them in the eyes of many?
------------------
No matter where you go, there you are.
Your exactly right Chief. The other thing you have to look at is Quality over quantity. WOF has added lots of new coasters (most are very nice) and it doesn't really mean jack because of customer service. It would become a big problem at CP if they started throwing in coasters to keep the coaster count but didn't really design them to be new and innovative. So yes I can see not keeping the record for most coasters if your just putting coasters in on a yearly basis with no new thrills. Ordinary coasters I am talking about. However I think they do see what's is the tallest and take a couple years to outdo it.

Yes and no to that. Does CP really need to bring out the tallest and fastest....no, as most people say CP has some of the best customer service, that is enough to keep people....to a point. As an added incentive CP brings the biggest and best to really say this is where you should come. You stated SF would never invest that sort of capital to bring in that sort of coaster. Well I am not so sure on that but I see your point. CF is a smaller organization and they have not forgotten what got them there. As you get bigger sometimes the good things tend to go by the wayside.
So yeah I see your points mofomaniacal and chief

Are you saying that press releases get tossed away by the media and the GP doesn't see them? Get real. CP pushes that info to the press so the GP DOES see it. Why else would they issue a press release? So they can say "Everyone else is talking about the record. We're not talking about it. (wink, wink)"? And then Janice Witherow stands there and smiles innocently. Cmon, take your head out of the sand. (Is that better?) The last three links are webpages that are there for all the GP to see. It is also in their brochure. If I felt like wasting more time with this, I'm sure I could dig up many more.
If your reference to my ass on the curb means getting bounced, I just may save you the trouble. I won't miss you, and you probably won't miss me. This may be your house, but in mine, I treat guests with respect, even if I disagree with them. I don't act like a twelve-year-old. And don't call me "son." I'm old enough to be your dad and only my dad can call me "son."

Agreed upon Hooper...the point I wish to clarify is SFMM can say that they have 16 coasters, but it seems that every time I trek out there one or more will be down for the entire day for maintenance. And even though the rated customer service for SFMM is low, I personally have no issue with that, the fact that they want to pay for subpar product is reason enough for me to avoid there at all costs.

So if someone disagrees with you, that makes them a jackass?
No, jackass, when you write things like, "I think it's time you took your head out your pie hole," you cross the line. Don't act like you don't know what you did. Disagree all you want, but when you start talking about "pie hole," the gloves come off.
"Most coasters" is not a marketing emphasis, and no, the public does not read press releases. I've been a professional journalist on and off for the last ten years, and no one prints press releases, they only extract the good parts and then conduct interviews or go after the bigger story. I have a scrap book of newspaper articles and a video tape of clips with me and other GTTP kiddies on news outlets from around the country for Millennium Force, Wicked Twister and Dragster. Number of times they mentioned Cedar Point has the most coasters? Zero.
In fact, I've had conversations with certain marketing folk indicating they don't emphasize it, because they've been burned by it a number of times in the past by SFMM and even PKI at one point.
So you haven't deleted your account yet. Keep giving me those ad impressions... I'm having a good month!

As for the "we've got the most" argument, if Cedar Point really does consider that a marketing ploy (which I still don't agree with) then they would be using it to compete with every park out there. They aren't going one-on-one with MM.
I am getting sick and tired of the records anyway. As I stated earlier, I would much rather see the Point get voted the Best Amusement Park than for them to have the higest or most of anything. Frankly, I would like to see some smaller family rides in the park or some of the Huss rides and get off the coaster kick for a few years. How about a nice dark ride?

Guess what? I got a fever! And the only prescription... is more cowbell!
I was pleasantly surprised with Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin at WDW. It is an interactive ride with video game-ness. Shoot at targets while controlling your vehicles spin. I think Scooby at PKI is supposed to be the same idea.
Something like that would be fun for the whole family. How about an interactive Haunted House where you shoot at targets to make ghosts appear, caskets open, and things like that? Maybe they can incorporate the Great Pumpkin theme.
I don't know, I am just ready for something different.
