TTD/CP review from LA Daily News

Here's yet another excuse to visit CP, and another Servo convert from California.

Yeah, I live around 3 hours (240 miles) from Cedar Point and every year for 3 days to 1 week we take our RV down there and camp and have fun, usually the first day we ride everything in the park at least once, then some of our favorites again, then its time to cool off at Soak City, thats always fun, the second day is half park-half beach, then the third to end of our trip is spent non-stop in the park (too bad it has to close)

Wow, It seems that people in LA....Still prefer CP over SFMM. BTW, I travel a few times a year from New york city. 517 Miles from CP.

if i were old enough to drive i would drive the 4 hours to cp at least 10 or 15 times. it is so fun and i get really excited whenever my parents say yes to us going to cp.

Wow, an article that was written by someone who not only got the facts right, but included geek details. You don't see that very often.

Johnz, I love your signature!
not a bad article, amazing that it's correct from somebody across the country, most ppl can't get it right when they live in the same state and hear about everything that happens at Cedar Point.

True, that is a great quote - altho I believe it's " I have a fever, and the only cure is more cowbell" or something along those lines... nevertheless BOC is awesome.

I agree it's nice to see a good article about Cedar Point.

I'm gonna send you Volume 1 of the five-part series free of charge, I know you'll order the rest once you've seen it. Right, Murphy, you brainless sack of excrement?

That's because they haven't. Another point to address the nonsense assertion that CP and SFMM compete.

I think I have to disagree, Jeff. They do compete, but not for market share. They compete for the most coasters title. That "more coasters than anywhere else" tagline is a powerful marketing tool. It's not a direct competition with SFMM; they just happen to be the park that CP share's the title with.

I agree with most of you that this a well written article. I just have a hard time thinking of Millennium Force as a "warm-up" coaster.

As for competition, an old argument, I would bet that outside of the West Coast, more people would recognize the name Wally World than Magic Mountain.

------------------
No matter where you go, there you are.

Luke, I believe the author's point was that TTD was the first of Cedar Point's nine record-breakers that topped 100 mph, not necessarily saying it was the first one worldwide.
I totally think they compete with SFMM and any park that threatens highest and fastest coaster in the world. So quickly MF got topped so in the process of designing TTD, I think Kinzel and the staff said the following. "Ok the goal is to get the highest and fastest coaster back. Japan has the highest coaster now, SFMM is creeping up in the coaster count. I only have to go over 318ft. to get the highest coaster back. But I could get another coaster to keep SMFF off our tail and really outdo them by going 420ft. SUE is 415ft. That way SFMM can't say anything about having a taller coaster." So I really do think they compete with parks in the two ways stated. And I love it. It says whatever you do we will top, so don't even bother. Even though the other parks do bother, thus bringing top thrill rides to CP because there is competition. That's just my thoughts. But you are correct when they don't advertise out there. However isn't it smart to look at what your competition has, (if your committed to being the leaders in the industry with the best coasters...which CP is) beat them so they don't advertise against you saying we have the best.

Let me state it this way. (As I edit this the second time). If I am MR. Kinzel there is no way in HE.. that I am letting some other park overtake me in most coasters and tallest and fastest coasters, after all I have done to make CP what it is. The other thing I remember is at the offseason winter tour, I remember Kinzel when talking about TTD saying something to this effect... I hope you like TTD, and the tour and while I am here and have some say I will bring in the best coasters possible to CP. Like there not competing coaster wise with other parks....yeah right.

So if Cedar Point loses the title, does that make it any less of "what it is"? Personally if I had to choose whether Cedar Point could have the title of "Best Park" or "Most Coasters", I would choose the "Best Park".

Worlds of Adventure has added a lot of coasters but where has that got them in the eyes of many?

No matter where you go, there you are.

couldnt have said it better, Chief!!!

i would rather have a great park i love than a bunch of coasters in a so-so park...

hence the reason i consider CP, not SFGAm, my homepark. CP is where i feel at home. every visit, hands down.
