TTD time to go?

operative_me's avatar

At the park now, rode 2 times in a row with a station wait. Then the ride went down for about 20 minutes. Waited in station and got 2 more rides. Ride goes down for weather, people start losing their minds.

Now I'm at Famous Daves with a beer and some brisket waiting out the rain and looking at boats. I'm having a good day!

No boats are on fire are they? Specifically on pier one, across from Famous Daves?

Hopefully the rain will prevent burning boats

Ha all is fine. Except maybe my future savings. Looking at all of the vessels makes me think its time to upgrade from the small inflatable I have been messing with.

TTD has been up and down all day. It's windy and the wind direction keeps changing, but they have done a good job keeping it running as much as possible in my estimation.

I completely agree it's time for this embarrassment to go. We got there early Sunday and managed to get in line when it was short enough to take us straight to the platform.

How is a popular ride an embarrassment? And how do you 'manage' to get on line for a ride? One decides to get on line for the ride or not; no management involved.

...that one went down on us as well.

I know. It's horrible that any business places a high priority on guest safety.

It's sad to admit that the place I used to be happiest visiting has become more of a time killer during summer...

Then why go?

Plus, the park just gets so damn busy by late afternoon that there's just no point.

I know. It's terrible that a for profit business attracts a lot of customers.

I'm sure that some will call me a CP fanboy or a corporate apologist. Fine. I just realize that businesses are businesses.

BTW, how many people think Sky Ride is an embarrassment? It's down all the time.

This Isn't A Hospital--It's An Insane Asylum!

I don’t like the wind speed argument on Skyride considering that ski lift gondolas operate at winds up to 40 mph sometimes.

SV ruins all other rides.

Skyride- is one of the most scary rides in my opinion, even though I know its one of the safest.

But, TTD is getting some really unfair treatment here now.

Chairlifts are less sensitive to winds than gondolas, ski resorts will stop operation of gondolas while chairlifts keep going. Ski resorts operate lifts as transportation, not for entertainment, so the wind speeds that halt operation are probably less conservative than amusement parks. Things go awry sometimes because of wind as in this incident: http://www.cnn.com/2010/US/12/29/maine.ski.lift.wind/index.html

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

Dinner was wonderful. I should have made a second bet that I could come back here after a couple of days and see some tragic losers still going on about it, although that was (a brief) part of the dinner conversation. I'm sure glad this board is a time killer for me when I'm bored at work and not a way of life like some of the obsessos around here. Being offended and defensive all the time seems like a dull past time, might want to focus your energies on something more productive. It's no surprise to see I'm in that group that it wouldn't matter what I post, someone's going to pounce on it. Did I piss on your tree? Take a walk in the woods, feed a squirrel, just do something to make your life a little less miserable.

I remain confused as to why you would continue to visit a park you seem to find so awful.

Well, you didn't invite any of us to that dinner, so we can only go by what you post here.

And I would point out the tragic losers you condemn would include you, since you seem to spend a lot of time here...

Being offended and defensive all the time seems like a dull past time, might want to focus your energies on something more productive.

And yet you spend so much time here being offended and defensive...

Welcome to the Internet.

Perhaps you could take your own advice, since it seems you don't enjoy being on Pointbuzz.

A gondola at a ski resort is a much different operation than Skyride. Even a regular ski lift is closer in operation to a rollercoaster than Skyride is to a skilift.

While they both move people via a cable, try looking at one of the modern high speed skilifts. Due to the detatching nature of the cars from the travel cable they are somewhat similar. However a ski lift will run with a crew of 3-4 total whereas sky ride seems to need 4 people at each station (catching, loading, locking, and seting up cars).

Also, you don't want to be on a ski lift or gondola in those kind of winds. Not much fun at all.

And I need those buckets to let me know when it's time to button things up on the boat. Skyride down = weather is a coming.

Just an update for August 20 th and 21st, it seemed like TTD was up and down randomly, including an announcement that it was down, and that riders were to exit back into the queue, followed by a very loud "WTF, not again" from one of the women in the train. We did get rain and lightning Sunday night, but TTD was up for natures light show as we exited about 10.15.

I agree. I have a couple of suggestions:

1) Let's discuss narcissism. Some people are 100% sure that they and only they are right--ALWAYS.

2) Let's stop feeding the trolls.

My Dragster luck continues, was at CP 8/24, looked like it ran all day, was not down once. Rode it 6 times, and the line was never long.

My dragster luck was good all season as well, 5 days in June and 8 days in July staying on point. In that time luck for Gatekeeper and Raptor weren't so good. Poor raptor seems to be having a rough year, Gatekeeper always seems to have some major issue each July requiring a crane at the lift. Congrats to CP this year for having TTD ready at park opening each day, was great to spread the crowd out at opening.

We had no issues getting multiple rides on Dragster during our trip in the beginning of August either. We were there from Aug 2nd to the 6th and I don't remember seeing much extended downtime. It also opened pretty quickly after the 10am park opening, lots of people went and got in line after the old early entry Millennium Force / Maverick loop. I noticed more downtime on Rougarou and Raptor than anything else (coaster related.)

XS Nightclub posted this Google Trends graph in another thread. Over the past year, TTD is STILL the most searched-for coaster over CP's two newest (Valravn outpaced it briefly at a point.)

I searched for MF using the same tool, and it is surprisingly far behind. So TTD is still extremely famous and holds its own (in terms of public interest) against CP's pair of shiny new birds.
