TTD rollbacks

I was just wondering how often TTD has a rollback with riders on it. When I went earlier this month I saw a couple of rollbacks, but there weren't any riders on it because they were drying the track after a storm. I live 3 hours away so I can't get to CP very often and I was just curious as to how often riders get that unique thrill.
I dont think that you get that chance often with people on it anymore, usually if you see a rollback its during testing, or like you said, drying off the tracks. They test that thing right down to the wire untill they put people on it now. If its rolling back, then its not usually a good sign. once it gets going it runs pretty good for awile, untill they find another problem with it, but i guess your going to have that, i mean it is the first of its kind...

I was watching the Extreme Rides/ East Coast on Travel yesterday (I think that's what it was, it was on from 5-6 EDT) Anyway, they showed things like Spiderman and MIB and Hulk (there is no way CP will ever put the kind of money into a dark ride like what was put into spiderman and MIB). On to my point, and what it has to do with this thread. They started off with a segment on TTD, talking about how fast it was, and showing how the motor works. Like with all the rides they got a couple of people who have just ridden the thing an ungodly number of times. TC also got their first ever rollback on tape (the riders, not TTD's). There were actually 2 in a row before they got that particular train over the top.
Anyway, it was interesting to see some of the other rides, especially Hulk's launch system, but anyway. It's not on again anytime soon, I already checked hoping I could record it.

I saw rollback every 30 minutes, every hour, every 2 hours, or only once a day. Wind and rain have a big affect on the ride. Also after a 30+ minute breakdown the track and trains cool off which results as a rollback or two.

I'm not at the park all that often either so someone correct me if I'm wrong. *** Edited 8/18/2004 11:22:18 PM UTC by Gomez***

I was waiting in line when TTD was broken down (what's new) and this old man was like an expert on the ride, at least I thought so. He was talking about how after a certain amount of time the hydraulics have to rebuild to the power it needs to get over the top. If it's been broken down awhile it takes at least 2 lauches for the hydrolics to build back to full power.

I have no clue if this is right, but what do you think?

And yes, I just saw a roll back with people in it on 8/15, two rides after me. *** Edited 8/19/2004 5:54:00 PM UTC by DubbSlaw3***

I don't know about the rest of you, but I've been in a rollback, and it isn't the most "pleasent" experiance. Mine was last year in September, and it was a cold day. When you take off and start your accent up the hill, well all the sudden, your almost at the top but your going ALOT slower that usual, and you hit the top and instead of going over, you go back down. Its a very unusual feeling, if you know what it feels like to go 120 mph forward, try going that fast or less backwards.
When I went on the 28th, There was a rollback at the end of the night. The guy in the front row was taken away by an ambulance. I stood right next to the ambulance to see if he would say anything but he just looked shooken up. It was wierd though because they had the guy back in the station and they wouldn't let him out of the restraints for at least 15 min. But maybe he was faking it, who knows. Oh yeah, it was the CP ambulance, not a real one *** Edited 8/19/2004 11:34:51 PM UTC by timbers01***

Ok hold on a second

[rolls computer chair in a backwards direction]

Really not what I expected, hopefully it gets better at faster speeds.

Goodbye MrScott

Lol, well you rolled your computer chair backwards on your own. I mean being on TTD and all the sudden you start coming back down the hill at 120 mph. Now tell me, that wouldn't catch you off guard? Unless you were actually expecting one.
I had a rollback on the 25th of October last year. It was a very cold, rainy day. Everytime I get on the ride I pray for a rollback. It is the best experience there is. I was in the front seat and I thought we made it over the top because I was acctually looking down. The guy next to me screamed "We made it over!!" And then we stopped and starting going back and I screamed "No we didn't!" and I accidently hit him cause I threw my arms up in excitment.

But for a rollback to catch you by surprise, I find that a little werid. There's signs posted, and besides you get to experience that great launch 2 times!

I've said it before, I'll say it again. If you want to drop from 400' at around 100mph, BACKWARDS, hop a plain to SoCal and ride the newly reopened Superman The Escape at SFMM. I find it funny that everyone gives that ride so much flack for going up fast, stalling, and falling in reverse. One trick pony! Not a coaster! TAER IT DOWN!!!1!! But everyone wants a rollback on TTD...

ROUNDABOUND.

Oh gezz.. here we go again. Too bad Superman doesn't really go up 400 feet. And besides, that's what your supposed to do on Superman, come down backwards. When I tell people that I came down backwards on TTD they go in shock, because you're not supposed to do it. It's something unique about the ride and it's acctually a complete circuit.

And Shane your signature says it all.

Plus, on Dragster, you get to go again after your rollback :)
I don't wanna have to say this, but S:TE is nothing compared to TTD, IMO. Though I never rode S:TE, I can just tell by my own likes and dislikes. It takes almost twice as long to go not even near as fast, define the word near however you please, and doesn't go up near as high. It starts off on a huge hill, and doesn't even go all the way up the track. Though S:TE is probably an awesome ride, I don't think it compares to TTD.

Smoking Marijuana isn't a bad thing or even a good one, like everything else, its what you make of it.

I know most of you think a rollback wouldn't catch you by suprise. I know there are signs posted saying it can rollback, but what I mean is, I've rode TTD atleast 10 times, and after a while you think you'll never get a rollback, but it finally happens and you didn't expect it to happen.
That's part of the thrill my friend. I've said it before and I'll say it again, it's not called TOP THRILL DRAGSTER for nothing. It's completely the biggest thrill out there.

(Sorry for the all caps, I had to make a point though)

Lol, I know its part of the thrill, and I enjoyed it!
It seems most of the folks who compare a rollback on TTD to a ride on S:TE have not experienced both. Actually, most seem to not have ridden S:TE to start with.

I've only had complete circuit rides on TTD, but I have ridden S:TE. I find S:TE to be quite a fun ride, however not too thrilling. I'd imagine that a rollback would be quite similar, except for the twist and that the braking would be much more abrupt.

A rollback is kind of a rush the first time, doubt I'll ever get a second...
