TTD major breakdown same day as WT last year

This was my second year going to Coastermania at CP. Both times I arrived at the point the Thursday before the big day. Last year WT went down that Thursday before Coastermania with "major" mechanical difficulty. Last year WT was the main NEW attraction. The ride was down for weeks. This year the same for TTD. It has not opened since. I know the rides go down for mechanical maintenance or failure BUT these two instances represent the 1st extended breakdown for both rides. They just happend to be on thje same day. Could this be a ploy on the part of CP to ensure the true coaster enthusiast that attend the Coastermania weekend will return? I'm sure they know that any ACE or Coasterbuzz member will return to the park to ride WT or TTD.
Yeah, Cedar Point purposely makes a ride break down just so a group of enthusiasts will come back. That way Cedar Point can make an extra 1000 bucks!

Get real.

First of all, I am just raising the question as a possibility. Also, 1000 bucks...apparently you were not at CP on Coastermania day at Coastermania times. Amusement Parks as a practice will have certain rides down on different days... YES ON PURPOSE... to try to attract return visitors that want to ride all the parks rides. Amusement Park Micoeconomics 101!
Or, the guest could decide that "this park sucks; their rides are always down" and never come back, telling others not to go either. Seems like a risky proposition to me.

If I were running the park, I'd think the best way to generate return visits is to show your guests a great time, and make that day the best day they ever had. Then, they might want to come back and have another great day.

....pah'lease.... ::rolls eyes:: this can be a twisted world at times, and maybe an amusement park I'm unfamiliar with practices such deceiving 'Microeconomics', but I never herd such a crock of....

David, your logic defies belief. If CP were to shut down a ride on purpose, the demand from enthusiasts (especially) would go down, not up. Unhappy guests do not usually return - look at all the SF posts. I also believe the cost of coastermania including ERT makes it a lost leader for CP, using your Amusement Park Microeconomics 101 theory.

Tom

Hopefully TTD won't be Deja Vu. Get the thing open, CP!
no thats not amusement park microeconomics...thats six flags economics...now your right when you say amusement parks do that, but you probably meant six flags do that. Thats a page taken straight out of six flas operating manual
Can anyone say exactly what kind of problems TTD is having? I've heard of hydraulic failure or something.
The park says that they are "working around the clock" to fix the problem. Yet, then they add that all they are waiting for is a part from Switzerland to fix the problem. If all they are waiting for is a part, then what can they possibly be working on 24 hours a day? The last thing I heard is that the part came in and that they were waiting for another part from Switzerland. Monty said the problem was in the hydraulics. It almost seems as if their stories don't fit together with the previous explanations of the problem.
Guys, this isn't some big conspiracy by CP to screw you from riding TTD. "Working around the clock" is just an expression. Logic dictates they aren't really working on it every hour of every day. Come 'on guys, be patient.

Actually, they are working around the clock on Dragster. During Coastermania, I took a picture of some workers working on Dragster in the late night (about 12:20 a.m.).

This thing has been having other problems too. This seems like a perfect time to work on those as well.

Cedar Point shut down Dragster on purpose thats why Cedar Fairs ticker number for the stock market is FUN because all they care about is money!
Well, money is pretty much all they care about. They are a business after all. It just so happens that they way they think they can make money is by giving us good times, and having us give them money in return.

Works for me.

Congratulations. I think we might seriously consider your post the Most Fabulously Stupid of The Year.

Maybe, CP could use the down time to tear down that wall.
Thank you Jeff!
