TTD -vs- CP reputation

And it sticks to the point. It doesn't add some worthless crap to the end just make your experience longer and more drawn out.

Everytime Im near the tower and a train roars up, I always love watching people look up. It's not just one or two, it's dozens. I'm guilty of bumping into other people when looking up at the tower and at a launching train. I even fell over a fence watching a train go up the tower.

Dragster is a CP icon. As is Millennium, Magnum and all the other coasters that make it famous. Dragster brings in huge crowds.....and not just fans. People who barely know anything about the coaster go to CP to ride it. It's a very well liked coaster and has a huge fan to prove that. :)

I'm with you on that... My parents had no clue what the rides names were and I didn't need a map to find my way around and I knew what the rides were. My mom looked at MF and asked, "Is that Corkscrew?" I just started laughing and pointed towards Corkscrew

1) Maverick 2) Millennium Force 3) Top Thrill Dragster

Dragster is an icon to me. It's the best coaster I've been on and whether it costs 25 million or 25 billion it's a great coaster. Cedar Point is out to break all records and was successful at doin so in making the world's first strata coaster

It's a great ride, and everyone wants to see the Dragster running all day every day. However, nature and other causes play roles on her performace, which doesn't upset much of the population. Instead, lots of people do hope that she will be up again soon, and better in thyme, which proves the power of mass hope/prayer. ;)

For some reason I think we seem to have gotten a few TTD fans over the year.

Another thing that always amazes me about TTD is how there always seems to be a group of people watching the launch area all day long. This really enhances the experience a lot when you have people watching your expression. How many rides do you know of where people just stand there to watch it? Walking down the midway by the ride, I always find this interesting. Walt took a very nice picture to explain what I mean.

I agree. That's something that will be difficult to recreate with any other attraction. The way the crowds used to cheer and applaud when the train would make it over after some downtime back in 2003 and 2004 is unforgettable in my book.

Well of course people watch it quite a bit. First, it's in a great location on the midway. I bet in 1976, many people stood to watch Corkscrew go over the midway. I'm sure it caused a spectacle too. Second, Top Thrill Dragster is the only ride in the park that is somewhat interactive. The track is very close to the ground when the ride begins, so it is possible for people on the midway to not only watch the ride, but to actually watch the people who are on the ride. The ride also has sound effects that just simply draw people in to watch.

They don't talk about MF, or Magnum, or maxair, or skyhawk... it's ALL DRAGSTER.

Well yeah. It's the newest roller coaster that is there. Tell me, in 2000 and 2001, how many people did you hear talking about Magnum or Raptor then? Very few. It was all Millennium Force then.

People on here want it to be at 100% operation......which they, and Dragster fans such as myself, know is impossible.

I don't think that we want it to run at 100%. We'd just like it to run CLOSER to 100% than it does. Certainly, the ride seems to be headed in the right direction so far this season. However, the ride still comes nowhere close the the operating percentages of Magnum, Raptor, etc. None of these rides are open 100% of the time. There are always small problems. There are days, however, when Magnum and Raptor do run consistently all day, with little to no problems. Top Thrill Dragster seems to not have this experience. While the problems may not be serious, there are most definitely problems that occur every day with the ride. I certainly don't think the coaster enthusiasts on this site are asking for 100% uptime, but we just think that the ride has a long way to go before it can be considered exceptional.

Just my thoughts.

There are poeple(not necessarily on here) who feel it should be running at 100%. I have been to CP and experienced a problem free day. On a last year trip, I remember it was running all day with no downtime. The intervals were not as short as they are now, but they were consistent. It was the best day I've seen it run. Though I think my experience this year will change all that.

And people need to except that if it's running at 90%, they shouldn’t be complaining that it should be running better (not that I’m saying people, on here, are).

I was waiting in line for an hour and half of that was break downs. Three times it broke down. I actually sat down and buckled in and I had to go back in line. It was my first and only ride on TTD. I loved it. I still like MF more, though.

Some of you under estimate how popular TTD is. I know many people who love the ride and if you stand by the unload station long enough you'll realize that almost all the riders look as if they had the ride of their lives.

People sometimes bump into each other when a train launches up the tower, because they are looking up instead of where they're going.

Put all that together and you have the reason TTD is my favorite.

You summed it up perfectly. People are always there watching the thing, even people that would never step foot on Woodstock Express let alone TTD. If you walk down the TTD midway and turn around, your right. Its amazing how many people are standing there watching the ride.

I know many people that don't know anything about CP, but they do know of Dragster. Millennium is a great ride and people who have been to the park can tell you all about it, but Dragster is the one that got national recognition when it opened that still sticks with peole today.

Thrills Around the Corner!

Well of course everyone's watching it... the park tore down all the trees that might block any view of the ride. ;)

I feel the same way MrScott.

That would also explain why I have triple the amount of pictures of TTD than any other ride at the park.
