I know plenty of folks of the larger persuasion (myself included) peruse these boards for information regarding rides and information as it relates being able to fit into rides. Having said that, I recently went to the park after hitting a 50-pound threshold in my weight loss endeavor.
I made two trips to the park last year, but hadn't lost as much weight.
Before I talk about the trip, I will make a few disclosures about my size. I am 6'3" tall, have a 46" chest, have a 43" waist, and have a 25" thigh measurement. As many others have said, it depends on where you carry your weight. Mine is carried through my midsection, for the most part.
Do not assume any of these to be guarantees that you'll get into a ride - I'm only providing this information as guidance.
Thursday, July 7:
Valravn: rode in a normal seat with regular-length seat belt
Millennium Force: was able to reach test seat safety belt to the other side, ride host said I would get assistance on platform (was subsequently able to ride, but it was snug).
Rougarou: rode in a normal seat with regular-length seat belt and noticed I even fit a little better than last year
Corkscrew: needed assistance to secure fixed-length seat belt; always a classic ride
Magnum XL-200: still a great roller coaster, I almost fit perfectly with regard to seat belt and lap bar - came out of my seat several inches on bunny hops
Top Thrill Dragster: was able to secure test seat safety belt on my own, but got some assistance on the platform - I hadn't rode this one in almost ten years! very snug fit.
GateKeeper: rode in a normal seat with regular-length seatbelt, snug fit
Raptor: the tightest fit of the B&M rides and of any ride we went on due to age of ride and noticeably smaller seats than Rougarou
Millennium Force redux
Friday, July 8
GateKeeper: rode twice, lost a fitness device that wound up being recovered! Talk about feeling helpless for a day.
Rougarou: again, rode in a normal seat and had some slack in the belt
Maverick: tried to ride this and it went down when we got to platform
Mean Streak: was sitting the train when it went down
Gemini: great seat fit for me just like Magnum
Mean Streak: rode middle of the train and it was a decent fit
Millennium Force: was damn near a walk on, very short wait
Magnum XL-200: rode in front car of train, lots of fun
Maverick: great fit in seat, lots of slack in belt - molded crotch in seat was a bit of a bear, but I'm used to it
Corkscrew: was able to get my own seat belt done up this time
Raptor: again, the tightest fit of any ride, but was permitted to ride
Blue Streak: a bit of a more snug fit than MS, but got myself in
Iron Dragon: great fit in front seat of train with OTSR nearly all the way down
Observations:
MF: I had to feed the buckle in under both bars on the side of the seat
Raptor: I needed help every time due to smaller seat and OTSR
PTC trains: I've always buckled the seat belt prior to sitting down, have never encountered resistance to doing this
Intamin trains: lap bar comes up 2/3rds way up my thigh, pretty snug fit; Maverick restraint was good fit
GateKeeper: you will lose any and all loose articles if not properly secured - I got lucky to get my fitness device back
Magnum XL-200: no more leaving stuff on the platform - you'll have to get a locker
Arrow trains: best fits of any rides, but Corkscrew was snug due to seat belt
If you have children, take them on the classics. I hardly saw anyone with kids into the lines for the older rides and those are still a lot of fun. My daughter loves rides like Iron Dragon, Blue Streak, Raptor and also enjoys newer ones like GateKeeper and Maverick.
We waited no longer than 30 minutes for any roller coaster, excluding Valravn, which took us an hour from entering the queue to exiting the gift shop.
Midway Market was a good lunch stop on Friday. Stay on the property if you are able to.
