Traffic / Tolls Questions? and Suggestions...

As a returning Supervisor for Traffic / Tolls I wanted to put this thread out there and see if anyone out there has any questions or ideas they would like to offer me? I have working in Traffic for two years ('00 '01) and think that I might be able to answers most questions anyone may have. I also would love to hear from anyone who has worked TT or anyone in general for comments. Welcome back to Cedar Point, I hope everyone has a GREAT season. Thank you.
Since I am feeling no love at all right now, with no comments coming in, I guess an update might be helpful. The three Traffic Operations Sup starting this year are: Mike Battle (great guy, awesome sense of humor, very dedicated), Candy Coleman (awesome personality and a great worker, though I admit I haven't worked with her a great deal), and myself John Williamson.

We have a lot of good people coming back this year on the crew and a lot of great first season people so be sure to wave on your way through the parking lot...

Oh and PLEASE feel free to ask if you have any questions what-so-ever...

Yea, just dont be red to the people who work for you. Treat them as equals and with the same dignity and respect that you would like. Look out for them as if they were family and take care of them and they should do the same for you. Be reasonable, no one likes a manager who is a stickler for the rules just for the rules sake. If you get some 19 yr old girl that has her name tag out of place for example dont chew her out in front of everyone.

Just because someone is in charge, this does not mean that he/she does not have to adjust/learn to his/her underlings.

I say this because I saw all manner of poor leadership styles my summer in food ops. I saw some good ones as well. And I have always carried those lessons when I have had to be in charge of others(which I really hate anyway).

You guys at TT are the first employee's the guests get to see and talk to before entering the park. You must see alot of excited kids just bouncing up and down in the back of cars waiting to go and get in the park.

Thanks for the advice, I do appreciate it and I am really sorry that you had some bad leaders in food last year. Are you coming back this year? I always try to do just that, what you said, and I hope I am doing pretty good at it. I have been in leadership positions for over half of my life so I have learned a lot of things. Thanks again for your advice, I will pass it along to the other Sups and if you are coming back I hope you have better leadership.

Yeah we see a lot of excited people coming in, which is always the most rewarding thing. I see you are going to be in Guest Service this season, do you know what you will be doing yet?

They said I'd be doing alot of different things like park surveys, or working at ticket booths and lost persons. I heard it's a great place to work. I just hope the uniforms aren't too ugly!!

From what I can remember the Guest Service uniforms are bad at all...you will have a lot of fun and if you ever find yourself in the Lot stop by and say hi.

Yeah Candy is pretty cool...I have worked with her in the past (she was briefly one of my silver tags) and have been working with her in the office the past two weeks.

I won't be at the Sup Sem this saturday, hope you all have fun but as Mike said I am going to see him sometime on Tuesday for a Traffic Ops meeting. I would be at the Sem but it is out of my control, Marine Corps stuff...when they tell you to do something you can't very well reschedule.

I can't wait for the new season to start...you guys are excited and it has been six months since you were last there...just imagine how excited I am having been gone for 18 months. I REALLY wish I would have gone back last year, but se la vi.

John, I think it is cool that you are so helpful as I am a newbie but not in traffic but in rides. I have however taken in a lot of the information you have provided. I know many people think we ask alot of dumb questions but we just don't want to look stupid when we get there. I process in next week and am sooo ready. I also want to think everyone else who have been so patient with us and helpful.

thanks again

Cody,

There is no such thing as a stupid question if you don't know the answer. Have fun processing in, and have a great season.

John

I remember Candy...she came & helped us out a few times last year on the really crazy busy days. She's seems pretty nice, but I never really got to know her that well.

Good luck this season! Maybe sometime in the future I'll come back...

Yeah, I worked with Candi a bit when I worked in previous seasons and she is really great. She knows the job really well and I am sure will do an outstanding job this year.
