Does anybody think that all the track will be inplace before the park closes for the end of the year?

It's possible. The park is saying December, but they seem to be making pretty good progress.

In my opinion no.

I don't think they will empty the pond until the park is closed.

Yeah, the pond is the only thing I questioned. If they've waited this long to drain it, they may very well wait until the end of the season. It would seem that they may need to bring the crain into the park itself to do some of that work.

I agree with DBCP. I am guessing they want the pond filled for Halloweekends just for the appearance, thus making it unlikely.

I'm pretty sure it has been said that the steel erection would likely be done this month. Don't hold me to it, but I'm fairly certain that's the case. And even if it's not, they've got another month after that before the park closes.

Actually Jeff, DBCP is right with the December date. They stated it on the FAQ section on Maverick's site.

Finally I can agree with Gomez. That is exactly what I read.

Does it really matter when the finish laying track?

As long as it's before May, I don't care when they finish.

It would not take long to drain the pond... its only a few feet deep (2-3 feet)

Well "steel erection" could also refer to the station. The ride is already 60% up with six weeks left in the season.

I agree with Jeff, I think they might also be refering to installing the LSMs and liftwalks as well, which i'm sure they are going to take their time with.

I'd bet there's steel involved in bracing/hanging LSMs

Yeah, but when someone in construction says "steel erection," they normally are referring to the MAJOR components. I would guess the same is true with this, but I could be wrong.

I wouldn't even classify the stair on the lift in that category.

Anyway, moving on...

I think that the track will be at least 90% complete by the end of the season, with a start on the station structure. I would say track is done, station is moving along nicely, and LSM/magnetic brake installment started by the second week of November.

Three things you need to fix anything in the universe: duct tape, WD-40, and a hammer. Duct tape if it moves and it shouldn't, WD-40 if it doesn't move and should, and the hammer as the last resort.

Check the latest pics on the mav page, the pond is drained and the supports for the turn have been erected. It looks to be a bit out of range from the webcam but they might have track on the pond turn by now.
