Hi I'm new and would just like to give my first trip report to Cedar Point. My friends and I made the 3hr drive up from Dayton in the early mouring and got to the park about 11:30. Passed the new supports driving in so that was interesting. When we arrived we saw the dreaded sing while parking. "Top Thrill Dragster is not currently open, it may reopen later today." That dampered our spirits a little but we knew it would still be a great day at the point.
Corkscrew (10min wait) This ride might not be much and its short, but its not a terrible ride, I accually found it more enjoyable today than I ever have. I rode back seat and it you definatly feel the forces on this ride. The second hill produces a very nice bit of airtime, unlike any other arrow loopers, like Vortex or Viper. The corkscrew over the midway is quite enjoyable. I just cannot stant the audio spiels on this ride. What is the point of asking riders how their ride was if you don't give them time to answer?
Magnum (20min wait) My second favorite roller coaster. This thing is an airtime monster. The 1st drop is great and the 2nd gives u the feeling you are about to be launched into Lake Erie. The turnaround is great and intense. The bunny hills and tunnels make for a great ride. My favorite is near the end, the bunny hop in the tunnel leads to great airtime, all unexpected. Overall, one of the most underrated coasters ever.
Gemini (walk on) Definatly an underrated ride. This ride is smooth, steep and fast. The wooden structure is so great because it allows for great headchopping effects. I swear once I thought my arms would be ripped right off. Its so fun to race and the ride ops are always fun. The ride op (who my friends nicknamed Javier) was some much and provided many laughs. Before we rode, he asked the station how many people where from Ohio, Michigan, ect. This resulted in all of us Ohioians starting an "OH-IO" chant right in the station. He also had a nice quote after a blue train victory, "Jeez, the blue train must be on steriods." This was definatly lots of fun.
Mean Streak (15min wait) This was far and way the worst ride of the day. For being 160ft tall this thing seems slower than Junior Gemini. The drop was terrible, I was preparded for a nice thrill drop when the brakes kicked in, negating any sense of speed or feeling of g's. This ride looks so beautiful and seems as it should be so much fun diving through the sturcture and all the head coppers, but its not. Its rough, boring, and slow, only good thing is that its the only ride like that in the park. Cedar Point should definatly look into getting a solid wooden coaster like what Holiday World has.
Project 2007: Went back and took a look around at the construction. I can't venture a guess a what they are going to build, but I'm sure its going to be a unique experiance, something we've never seen before. What struck me, however, was how small the supports seem, in the heighth and diameter. I realize they will probably start taller construction later but why are the supports so small? Makes me wonder. I also wonder why they started construction so early.
Skyhawk (35min wait) This was fun ride. Its your backyard swingset to the max! It offers great views and g's like maXair. I felt it was a little short however for the time you wait, but it was still a good solid ride. It definatly gives Cedar Point a great collection of flats.
Millennium Force (45min wait) I was suprised by how short the wait was, and was definatly happy about it. The ride ran great and the crew did a great job keeping it running smoothly, the second one train hit the brakes, the next one was going up the lift. I feel this is the best rollercoaster I've ridden. The drop is amazing, so fast and steep, all most feel as if ur falling out of your steep. There is not a bad part of this ride, its so smooth, and the trains are so open and give u a great view. The overbanked turns are fun, and the tight turns near the ground are so great at such high speeds. The ride doesn't have a huge amount of airtime, but its periods of airtime before "Millennium Island" and next to the station are great. Overall, this is a world class coaster.
Mantis (45min wait) This ride could be better. First off the drop could be great except for a break right in the middle of it. Thats so dumb. The loop I feel is the best part, ur feet actually come of the ground. The dive loop and other inversions are great. The track is not rought, its just this coaster has some very quick and therefore rough directional changes. I don't see why it couldn't be smoother and the changes more gradual, like Raptor. The layout is packed and interesting but this coaster could be much better.
Raptor (45min wait)This ride is smooth and gives some many great elements. It so much better than those bland Batman coasters at six flags parts. The inversions are great and intense. The ride offers a lot of "footchoppers." The helix at the end of the ride is intense and so much fun. I rode front seat, which was great, and only waited 1 or 2 extra trains. It definatly gives a much more wide open feeling.
maXair (20min wait) Great ride, gives great feeling of g's, positive at the bottom, and negetive at the top. Lots of fun. For some reason it seems smaller than Delerium at PKI, but maybe thats because it has Millennium, Magnum, Dragster, and Wicked Twister surronding it.
Wicked Twister (25min wait) Great Coaster. Nice beach location, and its very disorienting. Great speed, launch, and smoothness.
Next was dinner a Macaroni's. It was nice to sit down and take a break in the air conditioning. The New York Style pizza and service was execellent.
After walking out of the resteraute, we see something that excited us. Dragster was running! Well, it was only testing, but it was cause for excitement, we got in line and watched a few test runs, however the trains then stopped coming, and an announcement was made. Not riding Dragster was a dissapointment, but it definatly didn't ruin our day.
Power Tower, then another run on Millennium Force and Magnum.
Blue Streak (walk on) By this time, it was starting to rain so this became an interesting ride. This ride is a pretty smooth, classic out and back coaster. It gives some great airtime. It is definatly a Cedar Point staple, and looks great in its blue, a fun ride for all. What made it interesting was riding in the rain, I thought it was quite painful getting pelted in the face with rain, I couldn't imagine riding Dragster or Millennium Force in the rain.
By this time it is pouring so head out to make that long trip back to Dayton.
General Points: Cedar Point is so clean, the midways are spotless, however I think there is some places that could be cleaned up. The lake under Mantis is disgusting, with trash and alge, don't see how those fish survive. Also the supports by the stations for many coasters, especially Raptor and Mantis are pretty nasty too, gum and pennies everywhere, for a park that prides itself on being so clean, why can't these areas be cleaned up?
Cedar Point has to be the best at running rides smoothly and effiencently, the ride ops move so quick, and all trains are always running, I don't really mind waiting in line at Cedar Point because usually, your never waiting, your moving.
Overall: There is no place like Cedar Point. It offers the best coasters, beautiful landscape, friendly staff, and everything you could ever want. I don't see how anyone could not enjoy Cedar Point. Great Jop CP!
