Town Hall Update

So last year we were speaking with someone at the point and they indicated that the park was considering a town hall revamp as part of the upcoming historical date. Basically what was said was a lot of the items that are vintage and not necessarily cedar point history would move into another location(s) in frontier town and the town hall would become a Cedar Point museum. They explained there are a ton of items they have that are Cedar Point related that are not currently displayed. Personally I think its a fresh and needed idea and would like to see it happen. The vintage soaps etc. are interesting but I would much rather see Cedar Point specific items. Just curious if anyone else heard the same and your thoughts?

I like that idea. The place is basically untouched for decades now. And by “vintage soaps” do you mean the apothecary? It’s real, it came from Crestline Ohio, and while it’s a good example of the way things used to be, it harkens back to the seventies when CP needed to play up the old-timey atmosphere in Frontier Town. I agree that if the antique show could be replaced with actual, forgotten relics from Cedar Point it would be be an appropriate revamp. I imagine a lot of the old neon and lightbulb signage from back in the day is gone with the wind, but stuff like that would be awesome to see.
I wonder where they might relocate the apothecary and furniture so that people still might appreciate it and learn from it?

There is a coy post over on reddit to the effect of “If you really like Steel Vengeance, then make sure to visit Town Hall.” My boys like to stop in and look around every visit. If it does change I am sure it will be even better.

^Cargo,perhaps the the reference means they will replace the Gemini photo-op with one for Steel Vengeance. My son has a routine every visit where he sits & watches whatever video is playing, that lasts about 30 seconds. He climbs up & out of Gemini. He goes up traverses the platform behind the old firetruck, heads over to the fortune teller & taps on the glass & calls her grandma. Next he attempts to operate the levers on the remaining machines (not forceably). Then he says goodbye to Mr. K & we head up Frontier Trail. For those that aren't aware, on hot days the A/C feels great in the Town Hall.

There is the collection of plates, shot glasses, mugs in the display case on the back wall that needed attention. Some had mouse poop in & around them & some were knocked over, hopefully not damaged.

It is supposed to be open these 3 evenings so I will stop in on Tuesday.

We venture into Town Hall many, many times during the season. It just doesn't seem to get old to us. But, I'm all for any kind of update or revamp!

That would be wonderful as Town Hall has been unchanged for almost as long as I can remember. Definitely in need of updating and a nice look at Cedar Point history through the items they have would be great.

This would be great! I hope it’s true. The “old timey” stuff doesn’t make sense and the lack of thoughtful curation doesn’t help. I assume the reddit Post is in regards to the massive steel vengeance model being constructed in the town hall museum.

Someone asked about Town Hall during the RWC holiday party. IIRC, Jason really likes Frontier Town and said Town Hall was written on his whiteboard of things to think about, especially with the 150th coming up.

The place does feel dated, even by museum standards. I feel some interactive touch screen stations where you could browse through old photos and enlarge them would be nice. The current pictures are nice but limited, and tough to make out details since many are smaller.

Could even add interactive timelines/ maps. Historical VR walk throughs / povs would be even cooler. Probably not much in the way of ROI though.

I'm all for an update for the Town Hall Museum. I just hope they keep the seating in that little corner with the CP history video. I love just getting out of the hot sun in an A/C building and watch a documentary on the park's extensive history.

This was posted on reddit, a poster there is building this for the park and he stated he will be there most weekends working on it until it's finished and he would love people to stop by and chat while he works on his model.

Looks cool, but a bit concerned about the pacing. :)

I thought it was supposed to open in 2017 :)

When I first saw this photo, I thought they were literally rebuilding the Mean Streak model. I didn't know they made an entirely new model from scratch for this thing until I went yesterday. That's dedication.

Which to me sounds easier than rebuilding Mean Streak. Anyway, they should both be present.

Frankly, the models are my favorite things in the museum. I always find myself staring longingly at the WWL model and wishing I could ride it again. If there's more of them in storage, I'd love to see them displayed, in addition to any other miscellany they may have stashed away.

Yeah, all the cool old-timey stuff is neat, but I wouldn't be too upset if it were cleared out in favor of actual park artifacts.

Europa-Park has a deluxe, quite modern museum dedicated to the Mack family and the history of the park. It was in a building that also housed a station for one of their several monorails and the exit was through the museum. There were some awesome photos of their early portable rides, the original Wild Mouse, Calypso, stuff like that. The family’s first business in the 1800’s was circus wagons and caravans so there were models and tributes to them. There was a cutaway model of Eurosat so you could see the spiral lift and the track’s path. There was also a map representation of what the park looked like when it first opened in 1975.
I wouldn’t mind if CP took a cue from them. It was a nice display. I like history and I have a fascination with miniatures so I spent a lot of time in there.

Made it into Town Hall last evening and the photo doesn't do this model justice. It's absolutely HUGE.
