Tophat-tallest inversion or tallest hill?

Think about it...it could go either way.

KBF wanted a hyper-type that would fit in a small space. They already had two loopers--plenty by CF standards. So they got a non-inverting tophat.

CP already has three coasters over 200 feet tall without inversions (WT has vertical twists, not loops). An inverting tophat would keep the 2003 project in the record books even in the wake of a possible Arrow Fishhook.

So which way will the top twist and why?

I think that an Inverted top hat wolud make this coaster awesome. However, not everyone likes to be hanging 400+ feet upside down, that could lose a lot of riders. It would be sure to keep it in the record books though. It just depends on what they are looking to do, have more visitors, or records.

Hanging? There would be no hanging when you're pulling a couple of G's.

I think it would be much more exciting getting the airtime going over the top. At that height looking straight down while experiencing airtime would be much better than being curled up inside a curve where you would only see everyone in front of you. I'd rather pop out into the sky, than be sucked into my seat. From the descriptions those give of Xcelerator, it's amazing...
After riding Batman the Chiller Sunday I have to say an inverted top hat is pretty amazing. Being up that high and looking "up" only to see the ground is a very unique experience. The G's it pulls are also quite powerful.

If the Top Hat is in fact inverted this would differentiate it from Millie as well.

Either way would be amazing.

Welcome back Magnum riders how was your ride?

If intamin used lap bars for their looping coasters I would be all for it. However, I think they would use horsecollars if there was a 'real' inversion like an inverting tophat, and I want to be in a lapbar 400' up, pulling a negative g or so.

Interesting to think though-- an overbank isn't so different than an inverting tophat.

I'm going to say the same top hat found on Xcelerator. Just because I think it would give a bigger thrill.
Horsecollars would not be neccesary. None of the Premiers have them.

The sensation is completely different then an overbank

Intamin has horsecollars on all of their looping coasters that I have seen--anyone know of a counterexample? I'd be surprised if they changed that policy-- obviously, I could be wrong, we'll have to see.

I'm against the inverted tophat. I would much rather be getting air when I'm 400 feet up than being upside down. I wouldn't mind if they put a giant loop in the middle of the ride though, assuming it didn't cause the thing to have over the shoulder restraints.

Let's ride the "Sky Ride Sponsored By The Ohio Lottery Odds Are You'll Have Fun" Ride!

Does anyone remember that drawing posted a few weeks ago. It showed a regular tophat for the first tower, and an inverted tophat for a second tower. I still think that the picture is fake, but if they could incorporate both of these elements into the ride, everyone would be happy.
u do have a point
How was the second an inverted tophat when it had suppots jutting out from the center and not the outsides?

It really matter what is safe, as long as the perception of safety is there. Enough of the GP won't ride coasters that go upside anyway, let alone ones that think they can fall out of because of no OTSR.

I'm happy either way but I would prefer inverted.

I want to get the sensation that people have been raving about with Xcelerator. launch, twist, tophat, twist, drop. Definitely sounds like an awesome feeling. I definitely want it like Xcelerator's.

Maybe....but then again, maybe not. I think the 400+ foot height would scare more people away than an inversion at the top. Either way, there's no confusing it with Runaway Reptar. This one's only for the freaks.

I would actually be disapointed with an inverted tophat. If this thing is really going to be 400+ feet, then i want to see a view from that high up...you wouldn't be able to if your inverted.
Now see Kel, I'd argue just the opposite. By being upside down looking up, one would have a realization of *just how high* they actually were. I personally would advocate an "original" tophat (ie an inversion) over the bastardized over-the-top "tophat". Why? I liked the element on Mr Freeze more than the corresponding element on H:XLC.
Not to be mean or anything but:

A NORMAL TOPHAT IS INVERTED.

A NON-INVERTED TOPHAT IS NOT NORMAL.

THE FIRST TOPHAT'S WERE INVERTED.

THERE ARE MORE INVERTED TOPHATS THAN NON INVERTED. (3 VS 1)

THEREFORE A NORMAL TOPHAT IS INVERTED. THE POPULAR NAME FOR XCELERATOR'S (SPELL IT RIGHT IT IS NOT THAT HARD) IS A REVERSE TOPHAT.

Thank you. You may return to your regularly scheduled program at this time. I am sorry but this is just infuriating.

A thrill ride of this character is pretty awesome in its self. If we are talking a 400ft+ ride and its not inverted that would be pretty awesome in its self.

But your saying that a lot of GP won't ride if its inverted would you please explain yourself more??

If your brave enough to get shot 100+ miles an hour strait up to 400 ft and then strait down again but your not brave enough to take it upside down then you gotta have "inversionaphobia" or something.

They are both equally as thrilling the way I see it but I would absolutely love an inverted tophat... or better yet a cobra roll tophat..? CP is lacking in the extreme loopers a bit..
