Top thrill dragster drop tower

The new drop towers that are going to be added to kingda ka look amazing! I wonder in the near future if cedar point would do the same..

Drop towers?

The drop they added to SFMM (Superman) supposedly had a lot of heat related shutdown issues this summer. But if they are doing a second such modification to KK, they must have some faith in whatever they did to correct the problem in Valencia.
And with Power Tower so close to TTD, I doubt they need both drop attractions. But I think there are a lot of possibilities that could be done to extend the use of the tower. A observation platform or zip line might be possible to implement.

I can't help but think that it's just a complete gimmick. It's almost like adding a 4th kiddie coaster to up the coaster count. But just because I possibly won't like a ride doesn't mean others won't love it and make it a popular ride. How popular are drop towers in general? Seems like you only need one per park.

Edit: Just saw SteveH's post. Is there even room to add anything else to the tower? Problem with an observation deck there is an obstructed view. At least I would think so. I could be wrong.

Plus is there even room to add a drop tower behind TTD?

Not to hijack the thread but if we are talking SF upgrades I'm drooling over Goliath.

There are 2 drop towers (4 if u wanna count the shot sides) less than 200ft away from Dragster remeber?

Here we go again! Notice this is dtw's first and only post.

Adding a Drop tower to Dragster would be cool, but why not put it on Power Towers structure. I mean thats what its built for! OH.... wait. Ops

I wasn't trying to start a rumor about cp doing this at all. I just thought it was kind of cool.

It is a very cool idea, but I'm perfectly happy with Power Tower.

Enjoy the rest of your day at America's Rockin' Roller Coast! Ride On!

This would be very cool, but like others have said the park already has Power Tower. Granted, PT isn't a true freefall so it would be a different experience (and I'd probably prefer one on Dragster like the one coming to Great Adventure over PT) but I'd doubt it would happen.

Top 5 CP Coasters: 1. Steel Vengeance 2. Millennium Force 3. Maverick 4. Dragster 5. Magnum
Coaster Count: 102

As many of times as I have had the family to CP, last time was the first that I rode PT, and it was surprisingly addictive. Could use a little more altitude, but it's a riot especially when you have someone nervous next to you and the shot side catches them off guard (keep em talking and distracted). Hit it several times that trip and will make it a regular.

You boneheads need to learn how to roll up the extension cord for the fluggegecheimen when you're done with it!

Having been on the 400ft one at SFMM a few times, I can say it is one amazing drop ride. Miles better than any S&S tower ride (Power Tower).

It will be a great addition at SFGAdv as well.

As far as CP goes, they already have Power Tower so I don't really see the need... If they did, I would like to see them hit 500ft... Why not!

If we are going to get a new drop ride, let's get one like Busch Gardens Tampa is getting next year.

Falcon's Fury tips you out onto your stomach before dropping you.

I wouldn't see the park putting it in with power tower practically across the midway from Dragster. As... interesting an idea it is to simply tack on drop rides to anything tall. If they did this with Dragster, you'd get about 120 feet in height over power tower (the drop ride goes all the way up to where the curve of the tophat starts and power tower is 240 feet tall without the dome)

Another reason it doesn't make sense for CP, Kingda Ka already did it, and the one on Kingda Ka will always be taller.

Now, you could make the "well they put in Power Tower when Demon Drop was in the park" argument, and yeah that's true. But...

You know what? It's still too early for me to put together this argument

Power Tower also goes up, Demon Drop only went down.

Demon Drop was also an actual free-fall ride. Power Tower is not.

Why can't Power Tower launch you up, take you to the top and then drop you down?

JuggaLotus's avatar

Because that's not the way the air cylinders and pistons are designed to work.

^Not exactly true...look at SF FT, they have an S&S Combo tower that combines both space shot and turbo drop into one ride cycle.

Basically put simply, they don't have the towers configured, or the PLC configured to enable the ride to do a combined ride cycle.

So it is true.

As Power Tower's air cylinders aren't designed to work that way. I didn't say it hadn't been done on other rides, just that Power Tower wasn't made to operate like that.
