I am in the camp that this was a poorly made decision. Like others have said, most people have three items in their pockets by default: Keys, wallet, and a phone. This is normal. Requiring a paid locker to store these items is basically saying that riding TT2 is an upcharge to the entry fee.
There's plenty of acceptable reasons to need your phone. Some have work requirements, older kids that need to stay in contact with parents, large groups that split throughout the day, etc. I don't think I need to explain the need to have a wallet or keys.
The other thing that really bothers me is the fact that zipper pockets are not an acceptable substitute to paid lockers. Before all these loose article policies arose, I've carried minimal items on my person and utilized zippered pockets before boarding any ride. It works well and just makes sense when visiting an amusement park.
I get this stems from CYA for the park and ride manufacturer. However, their solution just forces the problem on the customer. They definitely could have made better efforts on their end. It's their policy after all.
Another good reason to have a phone with you in the queue is to record video evidence of any injuries caused by the ride as they happen. This video evidence can come in handy when attempting to sue Cedar Fair so they can contribute to the $10 Million it may cost for your care, after suffering a traumatic brain injury. Without hard evidence, good luck getting compensated. If the glove don't fit, you must aquit!

Sit tight fellas ;)
I am curious as to how it goes with the lockers for anyone who attends any of the preview/charity days, (I cannot attend) and if the park staff gives any updates on hopefully improving the system later this spring/early summer (maybe)

I get it that they have to reconfigure the queue line for lockers. But could they at least put Steel Vengeance type lockers outside the entrance? They are small enough that they wouldn't get abused by other customers with backpacks and stuffed animals. This would satisfy complaints about being forced to pay for a locker. Still would have people complaining about not having cell phones available. If they decide in the future to do some queue work, they could just move the lockers.
Exactly. Small lockers outside would handle most of the phone and key issues. Not having a phone in the queue is another issue but at least there is a good customer focused solution this way for now.

I'm very curious about the locker infrastructure that they are planning to have in place to support this new requirement. SV has a decently-sized bank of lockers, and that bank only supports the short amount of line from the lockers to the boarding platform. TT2's lockers need to support the entire queue, which is likely on the order of thousands of guests.

View it as a la carte pricing. If someone rides TT2 20x more than you do, they will pay 20x the costs of lockers. And if someone never rides TT2 (many guests won't), why should they subsidize the costs of lockers for those who do? lol
I'm curious if and how this will affect Steel Vengence's lockers. I've seen many people saying they will be leaving their phones and keys in the free lockers and heading over to ride Top Thrill 2.
That seems like a lot of work to save a couple bucks. I know the money adds up, and people will do it out of principle, but I can’t imagine that happening often enough to be noticeable.

So I sent the park an email yesterday and I asked about possibly having a solution with free lockers in the future for the queue line and maybe other solutions in the works? Later an office staff member literally just copied and pasted the TT2 guidelines from the main website. Did not answer my question of course.
copy and paste..... ugh idiots

This is the most ridiculous thing I've read online today. How many injuries/accident have you seen? How many have any of us seen? I'm at 30-ish years doing this, and my total is zero. Sit tight indeed.

The fact of the matter is that a modern day guest should expect to be able to have their car keys and phone on their person for the vast majority of time...
I used to stand in line without a phone for 5 hours in the blazing hot sun, uphill both ways or whatever, when I was your age.
I mean, cool, it's reasonable to be critical because of the oversight, but this nonsense about some deep conspiracy for PROFIT$ is wholly dumb. I can assure you that's not how it went down.

We did it! I'm sure this was done in direct response to this thread! Great job everyone. High five.

Exactly this! Too many people are looking at it as a money grab rather than understanding the safety aspect of it. I am not going to deny that the lockers should or should not be free. But they might change that as the season advances and take the feedback from the guests. It wouldn’t be the first time they changed things after the season started.
