Yeah, I know... that was my lame attempt at being funny.
I'm sure that they do in fact have big plans for the coming years. I just hope whatever they're putting in for next year isn't a lame flat, cause it will surely disappoint.
When did you have this conversation with the, ahem, "high up exec"?
Brandon
I know you were just being funny.
Recently. I was just keeping in touch and had to let him know about the terrible seat belts on MF & TTD. My Dad and I worked on this project with him. We are consutling engineers and it was fun being able to work on the best park in the planet.
My dad had a hard time buckling the seat belts on TTD and he is not a very heavy set man. So while in the process I thought I would try to do a little bit of diggin and this is his response. I kind of figured this would be the response.
I am with you and hope this is no flat ride. I'm depserate for a new coaster!

Maybe you should've brought your handy-dandy sodium pentothal along... oh well, next time perhaps.

Another thought, it may be a steel support for a woodie. What if this woodie has a loop like Son of Beast??
Then again you wouldthink if this was a woodie they would have started construction already since it takes longer. I lived right next to PKI when SOB was being built and they started that construction in August.
What is everyones take on that?

Unless its a hybrid, I can't imagine that its gonna be a woodie for next year, for a couple reasons. 1) The removal(s) would have most likely already started, especially for WWL, since it is not in operation anymore. 2) Someone would have seen some footers being prepared (holes dug), formed up or poured by now, or at least it would seem to be the case. I'm not totally sure as to the inherent structural (footer requirements) differences between a classic w/w woodie and a w/s hybrid. I know that a woodie of any considerable size requires a lot of footers, and we prolly would have seen some by now.
This, of course, is assuming that whatever is under that tarp is for an '06 attraction. If its for '07, then it could very well be something for a world-class woodie, or even possibly for the 500' floorless dualing coaster that everyone "knows" is coming...
Brandon
I don't understand why everyone thinks this could be a 2007 attraction, i highly doubt that the Cedar Point would bring all this up for something that would be opening in a year and a half. Look how Cedar Point handled the opening of TTD. There is something coming for 2006 we just do not know what yet. But this is just my opinion on things.

We don't necessarily think whats under the tarp is for '07, but if the item in question is part of a flat, then there is a good chance the many markings around FT would be for something pretty big (way bigger than a flat). Unless the SS is 500' tall! ;)
Brandon
We all know that Cedar point leads the way for record breaking coasters. They were the first to top 100', 200', 300' and 400'. If you watch the coaster shows on the Travel Channel many manufacturers are stated as saying the only limit to how high we can go is the land they need to build it on. Some are also quoted as saying they have a 700' desing on the table and are waiting for someone to buy it.
Why would CP not build the first 500' coaster next year. We all knwo they hate being outdone and not hold the highest coaster title.
Personally I always thought it would be cool to have a coaster that would cirlce the entire park. This way they could build the tallest and longest coaster. Could you imagine a coaster that would circle the entire park.
Blue Gemini Always Wins.
That would be crazy. How far is 364 acres? The track length would be over 3 miles long.
2006 Pricetag: 48.5 million dollars
2007 Pricetag(13958239 ft tall coaster) 345.21 million dollars.
Geez, rough crowd.
Hey, The Beast is almost 1.5 miles in length. That was built in '79. you would think with the better technology that they would be able to make this happen.
If you actually do the math, 364 acres converts to 1.6 million sq feet. So assume a circle has the area of 1.6 million sq feet and then find the circumference. This would equal 14,193 feet. convert that to miles and you only have 2.5 miles. You would think with the technology today one would be able to make this happen if they could make a wood coaster that long back then.
Chances of this happening, 0. But we can all dream.
Blue Gemini Always Wins.
Actually, its 2.67 miles. Which changes the chances of it happening from 0 to -3.795E45 by my calculations. ;)
Brandon
Have one.
I think a coaster that goes around the whole park would be cool and all, but the pricetag...well, I think it would cost more than Dragster. Maybe even around Draster and WT combined, and that is a lot of money for one coaster. Unless I knew that I would recover the cost plus interest (lets say 10%), and roughly a 5% increase in attendance because of it, as well as a 5-10% increase in in-park spending at current prices, I would reject it at once. Add in to that the current, and future price for a gallon of gas, do you really think that would be a good investment?

Three things you need to fix anything in the universe: duct tape, WD-40, and a hammer. Duct tape if it moves and it shouldn't, WD-40 if it doesn't move and should, and the hammer as the last resort.
